- Hey you guys! So I finally got my hands on these hair weights that had been sold out for a while. They are from Amtu Hair Tools. These hair weights are meant to stretch the hair without heat, helping to elongate your curls. As a fellow natural, I'm sure we all have a love/hate relationship with shrinkage. Watch to see if these hair weights actually worked, and if I think they are worth the price of $57!

I don't care what anyone says, $57 for 10 little "hair weights" is WAAAYYYY too expensive.
So I watched this then I took my broke ass to Walmart and got some fishing line sinkers, tied a rubberband to them and tied them to the end of my twists. Got 20 sinkers for under $4 and got the same results. Wham, bam, thank ya ma'am!

I was thinking of gluing ball bearings to two prong clips so you could use them even without braiding to elongate your curls.

I was looking for hair weights a few months ago. I didn't know if they actually existed but I was tired of shrinkage and the only thing that made my hair look nice and elongated is shower water or clay. I didn't find them. But someone hit me up if you find a clear moisturising hair clay or something

You don't even need to tie something at the end. Just use the shoe lace to do African banding for the same result

I got some of these because they were on sale, like 50% off. The original price is high, so I waited for a sale. They also function like hair jewelry. Makes my twists look more like a style, and stretches them without heat.

Looks like u could grab a handful of bolts from the hardware store, slip mini rubber bands thru & slip them on the braids. Just saying.

They have hex nuts with a rubber inner lining I think just sticking your braids through that and having a rubber band at tip of hair will prevent them from coming off or fishing weights

Next time maybe you could try letting the braids dry first, then attach the weights. I would love to see you try them with twists though.

No. My hair was still clean.
Hazel Goddesss I think what she was trying to say is that your hair was not in a shrunken state when you started, so we didn’t really get to see how the weights would truly work had you done it right out of the shower.

Thank you for doing this because they have almost no concept of branding or marketing or advertising. Their videos are basically still shots added to videos. And you're the only person with type 4 who has tried these. Every woman on their site and UA-cam videos have type 3B hair or less.
Also, their don't state the actual WEIGHT of the pieces on their website, and it's $57 for only TEN of these meaning most people will have to buy 2 and 3 packs just to be able to cover their whole head, or make their twist heavy enough to be worth it.
Also, they say the pieces are made of brass. I did the math. A 1-foot length of brass tubing a half inch thick is somewhere between $8 and $19 depending on the vendor. Ok. Let's say you use the $19 tubing, if you cut that into 24, half-inch pieces to make these hair weights, that comes out to $0.79 per piece. Amtu hair weights are basically $5.70 per piece. Yeah, I get that you have to mark things up to make a profit, recoup your losses, and pay for your time & labor, but DANG. That's literally a 721% markup lolol.

That's nothing but copying it stealing from African or people of African descent. Those are beads my mom used to put on my hair when it was cornrowed when I was a child. I put "hair weights" on my girls hair as well. The wooden ones, red, gold , blue or whatever. They need to go somewhere with that!

I have to get me some. I am challenging myself not to use any heat and I feel like that really worked. I would make a style out of the weight, using them as accessories on my hair. I love the video.

There is another company that makes hair weights that are half the price called SprAngz. You get 10/$20 or 30/$50. They also come in different sizes.

There is an AA youtuber that came up with the concept of hair weights called Sprangz. They are made differently. They cost 20$ for 10 weights.

They don't work unless your hair is super thick like the creator's. They slip out. I still have mine.

I think it might be a good cheaper alternative to open up some scrunchies you already have, and put in beads from Michaels or something small and weighty but not too weighty, like modded scrunchies ?

The price is crazy, but what you're purchasing is a "safer, instant stretch". You paid $171 so you don't have to break out the blow dyer. I say "safer" because who knows what prolonged use would do to the hair. It may be worth it(to some) because it is a one-time purchase and your after is definitely cute. But.....I'm gonna' pass. I'll just stick to waiting for like day 3 stretch to get the look that I enjoy, and all it costs me is a little bit of time.
I do want to try these, but that price is crazy. If there's another brand that makes these for cheaper, I will try those instead.
I really like seeing the elongation! I would love to see you use these for a twist out with foam to see if you get more hold. I would love to try them on Natalia but I'm too poor so I'll just live vicariously through you lol.
