My 27 year old Son lost his battle with Mental illness on 03/07/2024. Lalah's song "When Your Life Was Low" is the song I chose to Memorialize him with. I love her music and have been a fan for many many years.
I hear you. But the more I'm removed from my 80s childhood, the more I see these awards shows validate nothing. These singers' talent validate themselves😉 At least the ones from yesteryear. It was like they did not even need to go into the studio, feel me??
Naw but the way Tank was soooo lost and couldn’t hold it in anymore. He was the same way I was. Like where did you go to school?? Let's be honest a lot of present day R&B be trying tooooooo hard to cross over now... It's missing real deapth, passion, feeling- it's missing soul!! But Lalah is one of the artists that still brings all of it❣❣ I just had to get that out- I'm done commenting... Just gone listen to this R&B Royalty from here on out!!
Disagree. The real issue is y'all throw the RnB label on any artist with black skin and then complain when they don't do "RnB music" in the way YOU think it needs to be done, when the artist that u forced that label on has never called themselves a strictly RnB artist. The problem with putting a genre label on everything and always approaching music with that mindset, is that it hinders your ability to enjoy and experience the music in its fullness. Black ppl need to open their minds and stop limiting themselves strictly to what we've been fed by these record labels that want to push boxed in black artists and create closed minded black listeners. There's nothing to cross over to when every genre that exists comes from US and our creativity. Reclaiming genres of music that was already ours is not "trying to cross over". Pop music is BLACK. House music is BLACK. Techno is BLACK. EDM is BLACK. Rock music is BLACK. RnB is suffering because it's oversimplified because we keep calling everyone black "RnB" and then shaming them when they don't meet RnB expectations. Prince wasn't JUST a rock artist just because he held a guitar in his hand. As a black audience, we need to be more open minded and expand our horizons or better yet, support black artists who are RnB genre purists. There's plenty of them out there.
