    Toure not accepting that she identifies her gift as a gift as she said. Stop it! I love her response.

    I love her speaking voice. I love that she can be both soft and strong in how she expresses herself. If I had money, I would beg her to be my mentor. She is a masterful singer, producer and artist. Great interview. Thank you!!❤❤❤

    Of all the current female singers Lalah Hathaway has got to be one of my favorite

    • @eddiesmith5617
      @eddiesmith5617 3 місяці тому

      Me too. I think she's the GOAT, personally lol. I can't name one fee-male singer (or male, except Stevie Wonder/Brian McKnight) who can outsing her when it comes to vocal ability, range, riffing, musicianship. Sure, some can sing "louder," but that chit impresses "young" ears. Lalah is the only person I've ever hear sing an Anita Baker and Sade song BETTER than THEY did it. I mean, damn lol.

    There are so many elements in her Dad's voice that can't be recreated. I wish that people would stop and just enjoy his music! She is also one of a kind! JUST LIKE HER DAD!

      I feel the same. I'm like that with Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, MJ, Prince, and Sade. Leave their chit alone. (Except Lalah. She can actually remake anything and make that chit sound dope, even better than the original. And again, I HATE when people touch these artists songs. But she can. lol)

    I grew up in Boston, in Mattapan specifically. I agreed with EVERYTHING they said about what it's like to be there - especially growing up or as a young adult in the 80s & 90s. I left in 2001. I've been back to visit my mother a few times. I wouldn't go back to live there though.

    Donny was a perfectly balanced singer. I never, ever catch him doing too much or oversinging. He's sensitive and emotional, but he always gives you the right tone. It's always just right, not too much nor too little.

    I love Lalah. This interview was frustrating at times because the interviewer wasn’t listening. He repeated questions & she respectfully stated she had already answered. Then at the end, he tried to argue with her about being “gifted” by acting like he didn’t understand. The plain & simple truth (those of us who know) is that a gifted person can use their gift without all the extra work & still be great. But the extra work combined with a gift (like Lalah) makes one EXTRAORDINARY. Still, an ungifted person can do all the work & be good, maybe even great. But they’ll never be a Lalah or Donny. This guy (pompous ignorance) disputes her gift by suggesting that work & practice are the reasons for her success. Lalah handled him gracefully without taking it personal. ❤

    • @eddiesmith5617
      @eddiesmith5617 3 місяці тому

      His delivery was pompous. But he was actually complimenting her. If anyone thinks Lalah doesn't work and practice her a$$ off, they are greatly mistaken. Wight people try to say "it's a gift" as a way if discrediting our intelligence and our work ethic. Our problem as BLk folks is many things we think are a "diss" are actually a complement, and vice versa, things we think are a complement are actually a diss. We don't live in this world by ourselves, so it behooves us to understand how we're percieved, good and bad. To be a Blk vvoman/man and be percieved as having an extraordinary work ethic is the highest honor. Jordan is just as gifted as Lalah. But her work ethic is just as maniacal as his. And like him, she's the GOAT!

    I don't think all singers are their own producers, and some singers need producers.
    Not to sing, but to objectively and commercially make A RECORD.
    There are astronomical singers that are horrible at recording, because of lack of discipline, taste, etc.
    And there are average singers that would sing them under the table in making a record, because they know their limitations and how to convey emotions to enhance the recording without overkill..
