Hate to hate but world of war planes is retarded. I mean common, bullet deflection on planes? :P. Seems kind of dumb to me. I think war thunder wins hands down. World of war ships is awesome too
They could but it seems 5 was their favorite among them since they did individual games not series. Though many ace combat fans probably would have chosen zero.
+Clyde Marshall Yeah, but it had a far more black and white view on war which I dislike, along with poorly written antagonists, still a good game but ACZ and AC4(and AC6 to an extent) top it.
Andrew Rogers AC6 is my personal favorite. The plot is one of the weakest in the series but the gameplay is some of the best in the entire franchise. I do agree about AC5, I did have some problems with its plot. For example, disarmament is considered a good thing when in reality all it does is make a nation weak and unable to adequately defend itself.
I pre-ordered it for PS4 so I could get the goodies and I pre-ordered it on Steam for when mods come out. You know that the modding community will have a field day with Ace Combat 7. I predict new planes like the CF-105, MiG-23, MiG-25, AMX, Tejas, J-10, Lavi, J-31 and J-20. I also expect starfighters from Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica and Babylon 5.
Well when you get it there is only two aircraft you can fly for free, add- ons are super expensive (I under stand why though), and you can't really just jump in and have fun. Sure after you have played a while it's amazing but at first it's very difficult.
All of the Ace Combat Games: *aren't in this list * Mojo: Why do I hear Mobius One, The Aces of Razgriz, the ADFX-02 Morgan, Talisman and Trigger approaching at a very high speed?

Ace Combat just had the right balance of arcade/sim with plenty of unlockables. I remember going back and playing one of the Ace Combat games on the PS1 after the PS3 came out. You could unlock a plane that doubled as a space ship and let you go into space.
They are both made by the same company, War thunder being the "spiritual sucessor" of Birds of steel, which was itself considered a HD version of the first IL-2 sturmovik...
Sure, Longbow, Longbow 2, F-15, F/A-18... there was a time for instance when the best selling games on PC - by a very large margin, were hardcore flight sims.
Yeah, ALL those great Jane's sim's AND NOT ONE ON THE LIST? And how is Rise of Flight an honorable mention? This list is bunk! Jane's WW2 Fighters and the Longbow series are a must on ANY list! FA-18 was a masterpiece! Hawx? REALLY? lol
Jakenson Mags tbf, after being level 100 in WT and spending way too much money on that game, it's a BoS copy (no joke, it's actual code taken from BoS). I think it should have really went WT at 5, BoS at 4 (for making that engine), and then DCS at 3 or 2.
BBPINEAPPLE BoS was the first using the current WT engine, which is the arcady third person one. WT is a copy of that engine, with some minor camera changes. IL-2 is more simish, (most iterations, I know there were a couple of offshoots which were pretty arcady). WT is a carbon copy of BoS, and looking back on it, I really don't endorse that simple rebranding of the same product. Oh, yeah, and fuck Gaijin - every single one of those bribing, money-grabbing, model hiring asswipes. Just putting that out there.
Blendoman11 Yes, (the same shitty group of human cancers) but WT is quite literally a carbon copy of BoS, rebranded and resold, paraded as something it's not (a realistic game, seriously guys, bullet physics.)
I'm glad you lumped all the IL2's into one category, within that community there have been WARS fought over which developer hoisting the mantle of that EPIC title was the best. But at the end of the day, the SPIRIT of the game has lived on in each iteration of the product. 100% agree with your list.
Guys, the simulation of the blackout from G forces dates back from early 1990's flight simulations. War Thunder should be placed last, or preferrably not be put in the list at all. It's definatelly NOT a historian's dream, because there's basically NOTHING in it that really relates to History. Why weren't so many others mentioned (SWOTL, F-15 series, Red Baron and other Dynamix's titles) I'll never know, but at least you got the first place right.
To tell you the truth, I haven't read the other comments. I did play WarThunder for a while, and I still have an active account to play their tank game because it's mindless fun. However and there's absolutelly NOTHING in it that makes it historically accurate in any way, shape or form.
+Xavier Montoya Yeah, and in WoT too, but the complexities of tank operations, not to mention mixed teams makes things fuzzy in the Historical side of it. It's a nice, fun game, but it's still just an improved arcade, that's all.
I personally am more a fan for the more recent Great Battles series, myself. But I do have a few soft spots for the amount and types of flyable aircraft you get in 1946.
GamebugAU if u played any of the other ace combat games, you’d know assault horizons doesn’t deserve to be on this list. Infinity and 6 would have a better chance
One of my personal favorites is Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge. It's got a decent story to it and all sorts of interesting and unique plane designs.
That was a true gem, or at least my nostalgia makes me think that. Really loved the daring plane models and ability to freely design and spec out your plane.
I really liked the Jane's Combat Simulator games. My favorite was Israeli Air Force. It had mostly the same aircraft as Jane's USAF, but it had a better user interface. I spent many hours in the F-15 taking on MiG-29s over the desert. It was great times.
DID F22 Air Dominance Fighter it was rated 95% best simulator in 1997 ...immense in detail! in this video it was mentioned that one of the games simulated the pilot blackout, in ADF there is also the pilot redout , something common in negative G force g-force which causes a blood flow from the lower parts of the body to the head . The cockpit is the same as F22's and all keys are functional . If you ever played it ,you were into the game , you weren't simply just playing a flight simulator. it also had a book by Jane's called Allies & adversaries with every aircraft and ground unit featured in the game ,photos specs and history of each one ,almost 200 pages and an equally large user manual explaining from the setup until strategies for the gameplay and of course all the controls and kb ,shortcuts, ...if it only had better graphics for 2018 but i still love that game and still don't think that there is an equal to this... as an honourable mention, DID super Ef 2000..
Year late, but AC5 was my first Ace Combat that I ever played. The game was downright amazing, and I wish they'd remaster it...god...the VA for Nagase still was one of my favorites.
Enzo Ciarlini lol Pay to win? seriously? lol. war thunder id far from pay to win as the few buy exclusive planes are usually shit. aswell u can buy your way to the higher tiers but u will then miss out on the skill gained from advancing normally. pay to win means that there are buyable items that give u an unfair advantage, and i see none of that in war thunder.
They didn't mention that in #5 DCS that all the cockpit's are 100% clickable. Every switch, knob, dial, lever. It is 100% the most accurate combat flight sim! With IL2 and Falcon BMS coming close. It spans from WWII (Spitfire, Mustang, BF109, and FW-190) to Modern day (F-15C, A-10, SU-27, SU-33, Mig-29A, MiG29S) with most emphasis on Cold War Era planes and Helicopters (Communist Mig-15, Mig-21, SU-25T L-39, Mi-8MTV2, KA50 Black Shark and UN planes like the F-86F, F5E, M2000C, Viggen, UH-1H Huey, SA342 Gazelle and later this year the F14 and F18) If you get tired of Arcade sims that have mouse flight then come to DCS where you use your TACAN Radio system, INS, and HSI to perform a zero visibility landing to refuel and rearm so that you can go back out to perform CAS for JTAC.
I have flown a number of WW-II Combat Flight Simulations, including “Fighter Ace,” “Warbirds,” and”Aces High.” The best flight models, damage models, realistic scenery, and on-line, on going 24/7 combat for me has been “Aces High.” Before Aces High III came out one could choose between Early War, Mid War and Late War arenas. Since the change over to Aces high III there is simply a late war arena with all aircraft available in WW-II including fighters, bombers and ground vehicles. Some folks specialize in Bombing enemy airfields, while others prefer tanks, or anti-aircraft tracked vehicles or M-3 personal carriers / supply carriers. My preference is combat flight, defending my country’s air fields and towns. The learning curve, I believe, is steep, but not as steep as “Lock On.” One can concentrate on flying and ACM and not worry about engine parameters unless another pilot has damaged your engine and there is oil obscuring your wind screen. There are three countries, Knights, Rooks and Bishops. The game download is free and one can practice as long as one needs to become proficient in flying and landing, as well as shooting down drones, bombing ground vehicles, manning guns on airfields, aircraft carriers, cruisers, or Battle ships. Once someone feels proficient enough they can subscribe for on-line air / ground combat with a monthly fee of $14.95. Is it easy? No, and being a defender I get shoot down a lot. There are no outside views except in the training arena, or when flying a bomber, however when a new pilot has selected the aircraft to fly ( or all of them) they can, and should adjust their views so that they can see the best they possibly can to prevent being shot down by an unseen enemy pilot. Each flight model is distinctly different and each exhibits the fight characteristics of the real aircraft as much as possible without “G” forces. Pilots can black out or red out due to G forces, but they are not felt. Some players, I believe, can choose force feedback if their joy sticks have that feature and some are using “Oculus Rift” to enhance their experience. There are also a number of sorties on UA-cam that will one an idea of what it’s like. Voodoo 15 / Voodoo Vince has some good ones. - kw
What about Crimson Skies? It seems like all the games here are based on historic vehicles. This game allowed aircraft to not stay inside the government built box. It also has a great storyline.
Reading that name really brings me back... Outstanding game, might have to break out the old Xbox try it again

Aces over the Pacific? It was one of my very first combat sims and it was amazing for it's time. The WW I version was good too, don't recall the name. A little later on was Aces over Europe. How about Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe? If you have Chuck Yeager on there gotta have SWotL too!
DCS is so realistic that blackouts are modeled. Also every plane was developed over a period of years at a time and features almost 100% accurate startups and procedures, but damn those blackouts are so realistic.
Nice to see DCS make an appearance, but number 5? It should definitely be number 1. Nothing else comes close to it in terms of the flight models and attention to detail. Ace combat beating it in the list boggles the mind. Anybody wanting to get into DCS should look into Flaming Cliffs 3, it is great fun, but doesn't have quite the learning curve of some of the full on modules like the A-10, it also includes a few different aircraft including the F-15c and Su-27, both of which were recently updated with advanced flight models. Happy flying..
bowser515 Oh yeah, eagle dynamics (the guys who make DCS) currently have a sale on this week so now is a great time to get into it, head over to their website for some bargains.
Christian Ivanov I played IL-2 a lot back in the day. You are mistaken. The USAF use DCS: A-10c to train real pilots in certain aspects, IL-2 looks like an arcade title in comparison. The DCS modules all have fully modeled systems and flight physics that are unmatched by any other sim. Just look into DCS: A-10c and DCS: Mig 21 and you may reconsider what you just said. There are also some aircraft that are just as well realised, but easier to learn such as DCS: Mig 15 and DCS: P-51 among many others.
TheSkipjack95 Yeah, BMS is great also, and the F-16 is my personal favorite aircraft. I just think DCS is the better sim over all, that doesn't mean BMS should be overlooked of course, there is more than enough room for both.
The game was actually called F-19 Stealth Fighter. It was the best of F-15 Strike Eagle generation with stealth technology, and released way before the F-117 was revealed to the public. F-19 was really the peak of Microprose's Flight Sims until they updated their gaming engine in Fleet Defender: F-14 Tomcat. This list missing Microprose completely and having Falcon 4.0 on it instead is fairly nonsensical.
I miss ace combat. One of my favorites to play. I think the best ones were ace combat 3, ace combat 4: shattered skies, and ace combat 5: the unsung war.
Look at all these arcade plebs in the comment section praising shit thunder. They'll never taste the glory of flying a real combat simulation such as DCS and Falcon BMS.
Maybe we dont want to play around with a boring simulation... Thats why we play war thunder, a fun and realistic but not Arma 3 realism... Who wants to play a game or 'simulation', that you have no goal, or anyone playing with you. I understand that is you opinion, and this is mine.
+AngryOcelotGaming Ooo, someone else who knows of that game!!! I started out playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 95 at the age of 6, but by my early teens, that game had gotten pretty boring. Not only did Heroes of the Pacific spark my interest in WWII aircraft, it is what got me back into flying games! That game is still amazing to this day!
IL-2 Sturmovik is so far the best simulator. A opovážím you tell the world. Since the person who developed this game is also a pilot. Unfortunately War Thunder, go to dig with reality. IL-2 Sturmovik is also involved in war veterans who praises the behavior of the aircraft greatly.
Realistic in WT is not as it seems. Many aircraft are "nerfed" or "buffed" due to in game balance. I'm not saying WT is bad, as I actually play it and enjoy it, but you cannot call it a sim
buddy he is comparing it to sim in WT the WT flight models are trash if any of them were correct most people would crash before they even got off the ground
IL2 and DCS are truly marvellous in terms of simulation and grsphics. But not for the people who arent pilot geeks. So for arcade players i suggest war thunder and Ace combat games
I am glad you included CFS in the honorable mentions, Combat Flight Simulator 3 was my first flight sim, playing it 16 years ago and falling in love withThe Jug (P-47 Thunderbolt) and becoming a fan of the German Focke Wulf
69ingChipmunkzz Birds of Steel is basically like a War Thunder single player with a vs and co-op mode added seperately. A lot of the stuff in it is the same, even down to the music in the plane select screen as it has the same developer.
IL-2 Sturmovik?????? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS???? MOJO FINALLY GOT A # 1 PICK RIGHT? THIS IS FREAKING HISTORIC iL-2 WAS BOSS FOR OVER 10 YEARS WITH NO OTHER GAME COMING EVEN CLOSE.
+Jerry Liu to be honest, those two are craps man! naval battle -goods, aerial battle- so bad it's hurt. switch plane, thrush, auto refill ammo... i always hate the aerial battle in those games
IL-2 is a sim with a lot of longevity. It is still being added too with the last version 1946. Still a great sim after all these years.Love flying the German tank busting aircraft.
I think that it's a shame that the "Janes Combat simulation" games were left out. Everything from anthology to USAF and IAF kicked the shit out of everything at their time
DCS all the way. It is as realistic as it could possibly get. The detail is phenominal. The aircraft are modeled perfectly and it has everything. Il-2 Sturmovik is also a great game. The graphics are really neat for its time and it is a great blend of arcade with simulations.
Il-2 1946, Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Kuban, Battle of Moscow, Cliffs of Dover... How the hell are these arcade? 😂 I'd say DCS and the Il-2 series are good rivals. If we are talking about a realistic topic, like air combat, we gotta leave the sh*t out where you can get hit by 10 missiles and you just smoke and can fire the gun forever... So (not necessarily in order), the best ones I know of in this genre are: DCS The Il-2 series War Thunder Rise of Flight Others are... kinda... average. Like... good for people who have bad computers, not much money and stuff like that. I mean if we talk about only air combat. If we talk about aviation in general, there are a few others I'd have to mention as well.
It was revolutionary. Never had we see such graphics and physics back then. The smoke, the shading, the gun animation, the way the plane breaks apart at the point where the bullet actually hits, the realistic clouds, the intense music, that sexy p51 Mustang.. I could go on and on and on.
Okay, since WT's been paying everyone alive to endorse them, let's see where it's put. Eh, WT is just a copy of BoS's code but yeah, number 4 is probably right, although I'd put DCS closer to the #1 spot. Nice work Mojo. you did this one good.
***** it's a spin off with a new engine, whereas WT is a different series in which the exact same code is used. it's quite literally a repackaging of the same thing, and advertised as a new game.
I won't be alive long enough to read the damn comments, but Microprose F-15 Strike Eagle III was AMAZING - Perfect balance between arcade and sim - keep it alive!!!

Same with blazing angles , that got me in to planes from ww2
You definitly missed "Red Baron", a legend of air combat games, from the year 1993, one of the most fun realistic air combat games until today!
Air Duel: 80 Years of Dogfight One of the best early simulation game...
I was born in 1996 but even I grew up playing Red Baron. What a great fucking game
Yes
Dawn Patrol and Aces Over Europe/Pacific. Red Baron....Yes. Remember that very well.
its a mojo list... what do you expect? they also miss Aces of the Pacific and Aces over Europe.

Instead of just Ace Combat 5, you should have added all the series in and just said "Ace Combat Series" as they are all epic!!

+Leandro Costa i like ppl typing this comments without play the games it self or playing all the modes at least lel
To tell you the truth, I haven't read the other comments. I did play WarThunder for a while, and I still have an active account to play their tank game because it's mindless fun. However and there's absolutelly NOTHING in it that makes it historically accurate in any way, shape or form.
+Leandro Costa The tanks used in war thunder were used in WWII bam instant realism (aside from Korean era and prototype tanks)
+Xavier Montoya Yeah, and in WoT too, but the complexities of tank operations, not to mention mixed teams makes things fuzzy in the Historical side of it. It's a nice, fun game, but it's still just an improved arcade, that's all.
Leandro Costa
the mixed team are in ARCADE THIS IS WHY ITS CALLED ARCADE IF YOU WANT SOME REALISEM AND NOT MIXED TEAMS GO PLAY REALISTCK JEEZ
War thunder is basically like birds of steel....
Because it's made from the same people
Mikey Taylor Yeah, I know. Just saying that theres basically no point putting two games from the same dev in one top 10.
FirstOzone they're both fantastic that's why
FirstOzone birds of steel has a campaign totally different play style just the same engine
narrowninja157 There is a campaign mode in warthunder too.
IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, father of all recent simulators!!
Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 2006 just has to be the best one!..
I agree
War Thunder
Shit thunder shouldn’t exist
Amusing isn't it? The War Thunder kiddies are so adorable when they get salty.
I personally am more a fan for the more recent Great Battles series, myself. But I do have a few soft spots for the amount and types of flyable aircraft you get in 1946.
*"Nothing really comes close to the 5th."*
... except for Ace Combat Zero. Does anyone agree?
David Meissner rlly close but 5 is my favorite
I do, but zero was too short
There is a part in AC5 i think were you start the game it says "Nothing else comes close"
No
Zero wins on sound design. They just mix up latim chants and flamenco, two very different genres. Awesome!
Alright just clicked on this video, if War Thunder isn't on here I give up faith in these guys. xD

Kevin Blake birds of steel looks like WT to me.....
Yi Zhu it was also made by gaijin iirc
Yi Zhu it technically is war thunder but in 1.25 era on console
Kevin Blake ikr :p
What? No Star Fox 64?
I was thinking that.
In space not air
Some parts take place at planets so technically it's an air combat game

1. Blazing Angels I &II (PS3/Xbox 360)
2. Crimson Skies (Xbox)
3. Turn and Burn (SNES)
Also Ace Combat: Assault Horizon!
GamebugAU Crimson Skies. Hell yea I held the number one rank for a few weeks.
GamebugAU if u played any of the other ace combat games, you’d know assault horizons doesn’t deserve to be on this list. Infinity and 6 would have a better chance
I still play the first blazing Angel's game on the Wii. It is an awesome game.
Turn and Burn are a great great game
My first love was always Ace Combat!!! was addicted to that game
@@sirmcdust5572 Uh, I don't know what game you're talking about, but Crimson Skies didn't have anything like that.
@@IvanRodriguez-kl2hz High road to revenge is the xbox version then? The Pc version had instant action and plane editing.
@@sirmcdust5572 Damn. Xbox got the short stick. The things I could've done with those planes...
I've never had as much fun playing a dogfighting game as High Road to Revenge. Number one on my list.
Crimson Skies: High road to revenge
Leland211st simple, yet painful... WTF WM??? NO CRIMSON SKIES AT ALL?!??!?! NOT EVEN A NOD...?!?!?!? I CRI
Leland211st Crimson Skies, that game is awesome!

RUSSIAN BIAS (War Thunder reference)
goddammit gaijin
plz nerf Yak-9 series
RAFPony nerf there bi planes there as good jets guys
you. you don't ply war thunder. Do you.
Pokenaut7 who
Is it just me, or does Birds of Steel look awfully a lot like War Thunder??
Birds of Steel was made by Gaijin...
Explains it....
They run on the same engines.
+Artakha Actually, they actually did take BoS and turned it into something like "MMO" - WT was born... (and no, it's not MMO.)
They were all made by the same developer, they kinda build on each other
Definitely feel like "Jane's ATF" should've made this list.
AC5 was perfect. PERFECT! Was my first AC game that I bought completely cause I liked the cover. Best $20 spent.
Also, Russian bias
I still listen to the OST for AC5 when I play war thunder. (also yes russian bias. giving tier 1 Yak-1s 20mm cannons wtf are you on gaijin???)
4 looked better tho.
Year late, but AC5 was my first Ace Combat that I ever played. The game was downright amazing, and I wish they'd remaster it...god...the VA for Nagase still was one of my favorites.
AC4 was my first Ace combat game
What's the best PS4 game?
Crimson Skies, no? No one knows that game... :-(
Pacaveli83 I do, and I cri T^T
Pacaveli83 I remember it, I would not say it was one of the best tho :P
Pacaveli83 I loved crimson skies. Such a good game..
That's the only reason I clicked on this video, thanks for saving my time
Pacaveli83 Thought about that game myself! =)
How is War Thunder not first?
It has it's glaws such as in tge perdesescor world of planes everything was balanced
James Ball lol wut
I think he was high when he said that
Enzo Ciarlini lol Pay to win? seriously? lol. war thunder id far from pay to win as the few buy exclusive planes are usually shit. aswell u can buy your way to the higher tiers but u will then miss out on the skill gained from advancing normally. pay to win means that there are buyable items that give u an unfair advantage, and i see none of that in war thunder.
Joe M Because IL2 is a lot better than it.
War Thunder is the best
No dcs is
The graphics of war thunder is cool than other games but Il-2 sturmovik is mich cooler that WT

5 DCS
4 Warthunder
What a fucking joke
They didn't mention that in #5 DCS that all the cockpit's are 100% clickable. Every switch, knob, dial, lever. It is 100% the most accurate combat flight sim! With IL2 and Falcon BMS coming close. It spans from WWII (Spitfire, Mustang, BF109, and FW-190) to Modern day (F-15C, A-10, SU-27, SU-33, Mig-29A, MiG29S) with most emphasis on Cold War Era planes and Helicopters (Communist Mig-15, Mig-21, SU-25T L-39, Mi-8MTV2, KA50 Black Shark and UN planes like the F-86F, F5E, M2000C, Viggen, UH-1H Huey, SA342 Gazelle and later this year the F14 and F18)
If you get tired of Arcade sims that have mouse flight then come to DCS where you use your TACAN Radio system, INS, and HSI to perform a zero visibility landing to refuel and rearm so that you can go back out to perform CAS for JTAC.
no Crimson Skies? :???
+MonkTheWorldTree God damn my scrolling finger is tired. Yeah that deserves a spot. Maybe there was some BS technicality.
+MonkTheWorldTree its the only reason I watched this... not only should be on the list but should be in the top 5....
Paul Robison I reiterated your feelings in my comment... thanks for recognizing CS for the great game it was!
Paul Robison Great game. I still play it from time to time. :)
+Sean Thompson LOVED Aces of the Pacific. Played the crap outta that. :)
+Jonathan Cooke I did too. It was so cartoonesque and funny.
Red Baron, both Aces and SWOTL were my staple diet of combat simulators back in the 90s. friggin awesome.
DCS is so realistic that blackouts are modeled. Also every plane was developed over a period of years at a time and features almost 100% accurate startups and procedures, but damn those blackouts are so realistic.
Blackouts were never a rare thing in flight sims. But then again, many games on the list here are arcade, so...
Ace Combat 4 has better atmosphere, missions and story by far though Balkan War had better gameplay than it or Unsung War
Cgriff512 so true. AC4 is my favorite of all time
*Belkan War*
Belkan war will always be my favorite. I still want to know more about cipher
AC04 brings back so many memories
Ace combat is not a simulation
Nice to see DCS make an appearance, but number 5? It should definitely be number 1. Nothing else comes close to it in terms of the flight models and attention to detail. Ace combat beating it in the list boggles the mind. Anybody wanting to get into DCS should look into Flaming Cliffs 3, it is great fun, but doesn't have quite the learning curve of some of the full on modules like the A-10, it also includes a few different aircraft including the F-15c and Su-27, both of which were recently updated with advanced flight models. Happy flying..
bowser515 Oh yeah, eagle dynamics (the guys who make DCS) currently have a sale on this week so now is a great time to get into it, head over to their website for some bargains.
bowser515 I think you haven't tried the IL-2 series, nothing comes close in terms of details amd realism
Christian Ivanov
I played IL-2 a lot back in the day.
Christian Ivanov No, he's right. DCS is better. No doubt IL-2 is good but DCS can just do so much more
TheSkipjack95
Yeah, BMS is great also, and the F-16 is my personal favorite aircraft. I just think DCS is the better sim over all, that doesn't mean BMS should be overlooked of course, there is more than enough room for both.
War thunder is still boss
+Elo Veltix agreed.
amen 😇
+Elo Veltix I hate that game soo much, I still play it..
Even in the pathetic state it is right now, it tops most games of its genre nowadays
Dylan Doole and the things that make it pathetic can easily be fixed
No Secret Weapons Over Normandy? I thought it was an outstanding title.
+Liam Duke (Dr. [REDACTED]) This game! Brings back many childhood memories...
+Lord Kerwynn IKR?! man... when i played that i always thought that flat plane with the 2 big ass engines was weird lol.
I loved secreat weapons over normandy because the graphics and game was so AWESOME but it was really boring after i oassed whole game.

+Liam Duke This game had LOTS of good memories with me. Great game and amazing soundtrack
Lesser known game but I think Over G Fighters from 2006 did an incredible job with simulation of modern aircraft and combat.
Left out F-15 and F-119 combat simulators from Microprose
Odee Dillon F-119 the fuck? You mean F-117?
Heroes of the Pacific (Ps2) is my favorite air combat game of all time.
You litteraly made me remember it. Hands down best right next to Secret Weapons over Normandy. Had so much fun doing nothing on HotP.
Hell Yeah
KOTOL Yeah screw all that other shit that they’ve mentioned, Heroes of the Pacific is by far the best air combat game of all time.
him im here from 2022 and war thunder now has gen 4 jets being the a10 warthog and the f14 tomcat
Ace combat zero is better then 5 to me. But only by a slight margin
Mateus Zuravski Strongest point of Ace Combat Zero was Pixy
Karan Vir Singh he's the best AC character
idk man, most AC games didnt make me cry. But when the stadium scene in AC 5 happened...
I FINALY FOUND SOMEONE THAT ALSO THINKS THAT ACZ IS BETTER THEN THE 5!!!!
Ace Combat Zero and Ace Combat 6 i think are the best of the whole series
Look at all these arcade plebs in the comment section praising shit thunder. They'll never taste the glory of flying a real combat simulation such as DCS and Falcon BMS.
Maybe we dont want to play around with a boring simulation... Thats why we play war thunder, a fun and realistic but not Arma 3 realism... Who wants to play a game or 'simulation', that you have no goal, or anyone playing with you. I understand that is you opinion, and this is mine.
+Govind Seebun the title says games not simulator. something people can jump into and have fun. war thunder is easy and fun.
+ChrisM Game I don't know about you, but in my experience, the only time Russians do better than me is if their pilot is good.
+Govind Seebun Not everyone has the need of buying a joystick ;)
+Govind Seebun In past experiences simulators give shit experiences if you arent really into it, so ill just stay with " shit" thunder
For me, its a tie between Air Force Delta Strike / Deadly Skies III and Ace Combat 5.
These both are really memorable for me.
When seeing Chuck Yeager's Air Combat in this list, I must applaud you. Did I play that game hours and hours when I was a kid. So good for the time!
Ace Combat Zero is the best air combat game ever

Not only did Heroes of the Pacific spark my interest in WWII aircraft, it is what got me back into flying games! That game is still amazing to this day!
Very much agree i loved that game when i was younger
IL-2 Sturmovik is so far the best simulator. A opovážím you tell the world. Since the person who developed this game is also a pilot. Unfortunately War Thunder, go to dig with reality. IL-2 Sturmovik is also involved in war veterans who praises the behavior of the aircraft greatly.
ever tried to fly in realistic in WT?
Not even fucking close. War Thunder is child's play compared to even the CFS games from 1998 - 2002.
Maro Shinigami
Totally agree, IL2 is just a brilliant sim,,the damage engine is spot on
Realistic in WT is not as it seems. Many aircraft are "nerfed" or "buffed" due to in game balance. I'm not saying WT is bad, as I actually play it and enjoy it, but you cannot call it a sim

War Thunder footage over Birds of Steel???
It's made by the same people.
69ingChipmunkzz Its made by the same devs so it looks similar
If im not mistaking birds of steal is another game also made by gaijin before war thunder and it looks very similar
69ingChipmunkzz Warthunder is a revamped version of Birds of steal, about 50% of warthunders models and mechanics are directly imported over from it
69ingChipmunkzz Birds of Steel is basically like a War Thunder single player with a vs and co-op mode added seperately. A lot of the stuff in it is the same, even down to the music in the plane select screen as it has the same developer.
There is one thing I gotta say though. Crimson Skies. Crimson mutha fuggen SKIES!

IL-2 is a sim with a lot of longevity. It is still being added too with the last version 1946. Still a great sim after all these years.Love flying the German tank busting aircraft.
You're missing Jane's USAF.... great game, great gameplay, and great graphics
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe
Best game ever!
I think that it's a shame that the "Janes Combat simulation" games were left out. Everything from anthology to USAF and IAF kicked the shit out of everything at their time
how did WWII aces not even make honorable mention? that game was great
DCS all the way.
I'd say DCS and the Il-2 series are good rivals.
If we are talking about a realistic topic, like air combat, we gotta leave the sh*t out where you can get hit by 10 missiles and you just smoke and can fire the gun forever... So (not necessarily in order), the best ones I know of in this genre are:
DCS
The Il-2 series
War Thunder
Rise of Flight
Others are... kinda... average. Like... good for people who have bad computers, not much money and stuff like that.
I mean if we talk about only air combat. If we talk about aviation in general, there are a few others I'd have to mention as well.
So many WT fan boys. I play the game but compared to DCS and IL-2 it is trash.
Doom Gaming nah it's good

spasjt I guess not, I hate to say. It took a minute to find your comment, so people aren’t as shook up as we are
It was revolutionary. Never had we see such graphics and physics back then. The smoke, the shading, the gun animation, the way the plane breaks apart at the point where the bullet actually hits, the realistic clouds, the intense music, that sexy p51 Mustang.. I could go on and on and on.
