I'd learned more with this 15 min video than 3 months with a despicable violin teacher when I was 13 years old. I got tired of him yelling at me all the time and I ended hating going to class with him. I bought a used violin for my 50th birthday and I'd promised myself that I'm going to learn how to play this beautiful instrument. Thanks for sharing!

You can buy some via internet. I don't own a violin (yet) but I plan to learn it. The violin is my favorite instrument and ever since my first time hearing it. So in advance, I'm gonna go ahead and hit the subscribe because you're very easy to watch, the content is very useful, and idk I feel like by watching these I maybe could learn.
Hi, so was given a violin thought well I'll give it a go. Put it in to be set up and tuned as I knew nothing and yesterday had my first lesson yes I'm 35 and it's old to be learning. But I thought what they hey no bad can come from it. My tutor said I chose a hard instrument to learn and 30mins later I had already played the short song which was going to be home work, now day 2 I can play all 4 of the songs on the sheet of music and I just figured out twinkle twinkle well actually as I only know open notes I'm guessing. Thankfully I'm about to watch your video and see if I got it kinda right. Thanks so much for making these videos it's very inspiring and makes me feel more relaxed about playing. Can't wait for more xo
Just got a violin for Christmas!! I'm so excited but kinda confused as I've never played a string instrument before. I'm a freshman in high school and just finished my first year of marching band on the trumpet. As a new owner of a violin, I have a few questions. 1. My violin did not come with a shoulder rest, should I get one? 2. Can you or do you have/create a video teaching how to take care of the bow and how to tighten the strings on the bow/general care... etc. 3. Do you have a video over notes + fingerings?
Just subed ,and bought a violin today just waiting now for it to arrive. I am so glad to have found your channel. I love this instrument and hope I can maybe with your help also teach my 9yr old daughter. :)
I started to play violin when I was 8. You can teach your daughter but your violin might be too big for your daughter. if your violin is too big, she might be uncomfortable when playing. my tip is that, teach her the basics but if you want her to be able to play songs, you should buy her a violin. 😊 My advice might not be helpful but good luck learning violin!!!!
Cassi Flyn that’s so awesome! And I’m sure you will be able to do it 😊 Time and patience with practicing are your best friends while learning an instrument!
I just got a new violin. I am new to violin. Not much sound comes when I play it. I applied lots of rosin on to the bow. Do I need to apply more pressure or tighten the strings?
hmmm thats very odd considering you put rosin on it :/ probably more pressure and make sure you are playing in the 2inch space between the fingerboard and the bridge. also, the closer to the bridge you are the more sound you will get so try that :)
Thats awesome dude! Love the Bass, one of my favorite instruments :) Good luck with your violin experience, and also check out the new videos ive been putting up!
I know this video is pretty old but it was super helpful! I've played the piano for about 10 years, the bass guitar for 4 and am studying music in college, so I figured I could *hopefully* learn the violin with some practice. Since I play the bass the concept/theory is familiar to me but I needed some help with the physical playing! Thanks! :)
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to discover how to play violin for beginnerslearn violin online try Hopandar Play Violin Helper ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my cousin got excellent results with it.

My favorite, and the best (in my opinion) violin teacher I had when first started learning to play was a 17 year old student who was recommended to me by a violin teacher whose rates were far beyond what I could pay at the time. My 17 year old teacher charged less than half and she had been playing for at least 10 years. I continued with her until I moved out of the area. I had another very good teacher for about a year, but his schedule changed as he accepted a position with a new school, so I've been practicing on my own, but definitely need help. I love your first video and will continue using your video tutorials to help improve my playing. I'm so glad I found your channel!
Hi, I just bought myself a secondhand violin 4/4 and want to learn how to play. Your videos are really informative and I am really enjoying them. I noticed that your pegs at the top go right thru the neck, but mine don't. Is this a problem? also the G string keeps coming loose because the peg isn't tight enough in the hole. How do I solve this?
So glad to hear the videos are helpful, thank you for the kind words! The pegs on most violins do go right through the neck, but some violins are different than others. Its tough to say without seeing it in person though :/ You usually have to put A LOT of pressure on the pegs to get the to fit tightly, but also not so much that you break anything lol. There is also something called Peg Putty which is a sticky putty that you rub on your pegs to cause better friction :)
Excellent video,I learned alot and I'm a beginner, used to play like 50 years ago but my brother broke my violin, and never got another, I'm retired now and I'm picking it up again. but thank you, your a very good instructor.
Great video. I bought a violin a while back but never touched it. I'm a clarinet player myself whose dabbled in saxophone and even ocarina but strings are a little far from my musical 'expertise'. Do you have any tips on tuning it because that's one of my worst fears.
Hey, thanks for making this video. I just bought a cheap practice violin for my 22nd birthday and I'm looking forward to working on the basics. Having a friendly, low-key guide to follow will really help me I think. Cheers!
Thanks Dylan, I have a grandson who's just started violin lessons and going to bring his instrument when he visits. I know absolutely nothing about the violin and have to feeling that, as I play a little guitar and uke, I will be expected to have at least a little knowledge on this instrument. So your video is a vast help. Thanks mate.
I am 35 and looking into purchasing a violin soon. Any recommendations? I have always loved it but was always discouraged by family from a young age that it was pointless. I hope it is not too late as I am keen to master it to the best of my ability. I want to put practice towards it daily. I was a little worried as many told me it will take years , however, then I saw a few that claimed they improved significantly within 2 years through determination. What is your opinion?
do you already know how to read music? i think if u already have music background its easier and faster but it all comes down to practise i think which is what im hoping for
Today I bought my first ever violin.. and also it was my first time to ever hold a violin.. I'm very exited so I thought about learning some basics before I get violin lessons.. and this video is so helpful.. so just wanted to say thank you it was fun and useful to watch 🌷
I bought my first violin about a week ago from a friend, but she didn't take care of it so it is getting fixed right now... I will have it on monfay or tuesteday... I am piano profesor, and an accompanist so I do have knowledge on music theory and harmony... but I always wanted to play the violin. But si će my mom is a piano profesor, I never had a Word about it... I was Just put by her on a piano... I love playing piano, but violin was always my one True love😍💕 and now I will finally play it. I will watch your videos.
Hey thanks. I'm getting my first violin this Christmas I play keyboards and guitar so was looking for someone like YOU to get a new player going. I love your style ..Fun and down to earth and appreciate your efforts here to teach! I'll be following along
my dad gave me a violin when I was 7, I didnt really use or even touch it cuz I didnt really like it because I knew it was hard. until I saw a person play it, I was amused. i really want to learn how to play it, I hope I'll know some stuff, even if its just a little xD. Im 12 now, and I want to learn how to play it.
+plantfairy Violin and guitar don't have the same notes, actually. Guitar has six strings and violin has just four. Additionally, the note spacing on a violin are all perfect fifths. A guitar is less than a perfect fifth. +Hesusfkr Regardless, yes. Guitar will give you ad advantage as the tension on the strings are must tighter on a guitar than on a violin and the calluses will have already been built up and you won't have to struggle with that. You will also have some dexterity built up from the guitar. However, there are also plenty of hurdles you will have to overcome such as properly holding a violin, and so forth. Good luck!
Remus Lupin ive played the lyre for about 4 years and when i was still new to it i also thought i was going to go deaf especially since there were 20 other kids playing with me in a small room with the drummers.😂 i eventually got used to it. since ive gone through that hell and back i think you'll survive or have survived seeing as this comment was a year ago. Lol 😂

subscribed asap coz you have the most comfortable voice to listen to and the way you explain it is so much easier to understand than going through technical terminology with the other violin video teachers online. thanks so much for making this vid! totally appreciate the time and effort you pushed into it.
Hello, Dilan! Should I unbend strings to loose position, when I leave the violin? Should I do something when I leave the violin for few days? How to prepare my strings to the correct tensile for correct sounds? +MakeLoveWithMusic @MakeLoveWithMusic
I find "gstring" Android app. And use it for correct tensile of strings. I found information that the bow should be loose when I leave it. But still don't know how much pressure to use with bow over the strings. I cutted many of bow threads. ... Don't know how to use it.
It definitely takes lots and lots of practice for most things on the violin to sound like they should. If you haven't already checked, maybe make sure you are in tune? I always check before I practice. I always recommend this violin tuner video for people who don't want to buy a phone app tuner or real physical one :) ua-cam.com/video/-JY8UxCjZoY/v-deo.html
You had me until the end! This is a very thorough basic video, loved it it was easy to follow. But, I had no idea what you were doing with your fingers at the top but I'm sure I will. glad you have these out here.
its been a year since i played violin after my school shut down the orchestra and id like to begin playing again only hiccup is i dont own a violin nor do i know what size to get (also im here from exurbia he wishes you the best on my behalf)
There are lots of good violins online for $100 or a little more, they work great for anyone starting off or just getting back into it. I would look at sharmusic.com for a good one if you are interested.
Reno Pasqualitto it is definitely tough when first first starting, you need to give your body time to adjust to the posture. But if your collarbone hurts, I’d suggest getting a shoulder rest if you haven’t already. Will make a huge difference in comfort!

thanks a bunch! really appreciate it :) glad to hear your getting back in the ol' fiddle! ive ben playing with a irish guitarist this semester and playing a bunch of classic tunes and loving it!

thank you for making these. I just bought a violin a month ago and know nothing about it.
Just this first video has been a tremendous help
I don't own a violin (yet) but I plan to learn it. The violin is my favorite instrument and ever since my first time hearing it. So in advance, I'm gonna go ahead and hit the subscribe because you're very easy to watch, the content is very useful, and idk I feel like by watching these I maybe could learn.
its a very good instrument,I hope you enjoy it:-)
Omg same. I don't have one yet. My main inspiration is anime violin:)
I can't wait my mom said I can get a violin and lessons soon! This is going to be so fun!
You're a good teacher. Thanks for the lesson. :)
StormGold did you just say STRINGS on the BOW???
Have played guitar for a few years now, but violins always attracted me. Probably will start learning soon 😊
I must have a violin somewhere around the house…
NPC #7125366 don’t ever stop looking! 😊
😆
Hahahahahha
Found it yet?
Very comforting voice comcise and easy to watch..thanks so much for sharing your skills..
I also bought a 1/2 size for her. Just in case. Since I bought online I hope it fits.
awe😅
Thanks for the basic instruction video and good luck to you in all your musical endeavors.
Thanks, you too! ☺️
I’m gonna have a violin soon and I am very confident I can do it 😄😁
Cassi Flyn that’s so awesome! And I’m sure you will be able to do it 😊 Time and patience with practicing are your best friends while learning an instrument!
MakeLoveWithMusic 😊 thank you
how is it going
@@tammiesworld not so well 😅 I keep trying to tune it but it keeps going 2 or 3 notes down. But I learned a trick of how to fix it.
@@cassiflyn1575 have u learned a so g
Thanks God i found this video, ive been wondering what to do to spend the quarantine time
Guess I should find a violin soon
I just got a new violin. I am new to violin. Not much sound comes when I play it. I applied lots of rosin on to the bow. Do I need to apply more pressure or tighten the strings?
hmmm thats very odd considering you put rosin on it :/ probably more pressure and make sure you are playing in the 2inch space between the fingerboard and the bridge. also, the closer to the bridge you are the more sound you will get so try that :)
I had to put more rosin =) also tighten the strings
MakeLoveWithMusic My bow gets a scratchy sound towards the frog. Why is that? Too much rosin or not enough?
I had to put alot of rosin to get some sound =)
:D :D i just scratched on a rock
Hi mate. I am a bassist. I wanted to learn violin, so I was given one for my birthday. Very excited.

Mariana Barros Why not do both ?
Same lol
@@kynigosthewolf4573 it's just easier to stick to one instrument it may confuse you to learn 2, that's for me anyways
@@sbfly1054 i am almost famous playing the piano i am only 9 years old and i play Chopin and Beethoven and Mozart
Thankyou for recording this vidieo, I learned a lot!:)
You are so funny and witty. You have a great personality for teaching. Thank you for you're vidoe's
Get a tuning app on an ipod/iphone/ipad. I tuned my violin pretty quickly and easily
Hey, thanks for making this video. I just bought a cheap practice violin for my 22nd birthday and I'm looking forward to working on the basics. Having a friendly, low-key guide to follow will really help me I think. Cheers!
I just got my old violin fixed. I haven't played in 5 years so it's been a while
It's always awesome to pull old things out and play around with them! Hope everything is going well with your violin journey :)
9:07 calm down we are good oh man that was funny
This has always been my favorite instrument. Thanks for these video lessons.
Deff do it! It's a fun instrument to play and I did it for a year in 7th grade. I'm 21 now and I want to get back into it
+Ally Zabady get a Cecilio violin in your price range. All the student Cecelios are good.
do you already know how to read music? i think if u already have music background its easier and faster but it all comes down to practise i think which is what im hoping for
Carltons
Today I bought my first ever violin.. and also it was my first time to ever hold a violin.. I'm very exited so I thought about learning some basics before I get violin lessons.. and this video is so helpful.. so just wanted to say thank you it was fun and useful to watch 🌷

Looking into learning to play. To add to instruments I play. Thanks for making these learning videos on UA-cam.

Thank you for the lesson. Today is my first day. I got my violin today and had my first lesson. You cleared up some things for me.
I just bought a copy of a antonius stratavarios very vintage. Someone didn't know it's worth. I'm so lucky to of found it.
Thank you Dylan! Getting a violin this Christmas and looking fwd to watching all your videos to help me play this magnificent instrument🎼🎼
at my new school i plan on playing In the orchestra there and since I've held a violin and stuff before but never actually played anything
Very helpful tips in simple language.. Thanks for sharing
I've been playing electrical guitar for like 6+ years, does this give me any advantage? Thinking about buying a violin
+Hesusfkr yes it dose violin and electrical gutar have the same notes
Good luck!
How to avoid my left ear being deaf? It's pretty screechy being nearby the hole and my left ear kinda numbed :(
Ear plugs?
fullenglish3 I wear headphones now lol
Have you tried to put some wadding into your ear?
Remus Lupin ive played the lyre for about 4 years and when i was still new to it i also thought i was going to go deaf especially since there were 20 other kids playing with me in a small room with the drummers.😂 i eventually got used to it. since ive gone through that hell and back i think you'll survive or have survived seeing as this comment was a year ago. Lol 😂
Gideon Debateau do you have hearing ades? If you don't I would suggest you to try them out. I have them in my both ears, and they help me with my guitar, piano and mostly violin!
Mine just came today. I'm a little late starting as I'm almost 30 but welcome the challenge. Look forward to actually practicing after watches a few more videos. Thanks for the tips.
Should I get a violin and be the first ever student in my school that know how to play a violin or a guitar?
YESSS
YES YES YES😄
Do both. As a mainly guitarist, can confirm guitar is easier. Learn bass guitar too for the heck of it its simaler to guitar
subscribed asap coz you have the most comfortable voice to listen to and the way you explain it is so much easier to understand than going through technical terminology with the other violin video teachers online. thanks so much for making this vid! totally appreciate the time and effort you pushed into it.
did you actually kill a white walker?
bet his spare bow is made of dragonglass!
Best comment.
I think he meant a Johnny Walker.LOL
Hello, Dilan! Should I unbend strings to loose position, when I leave the violin? Should I do something when I leave the violin for few days? How to prepare my strings to the correct tensile for correct sounds? +MakeLoveWithMusic @MakeLoveWithMusic
I find "gstring" Android app. And use it for correct tensile of strings. I found information that the bow should be loose when I leave it. But still don't know how much pressure to use with bow over the strings. I cutted many of bow threads. ... Don't know how to use it.
I try to play my violin but the sound doesn't sound as it should sound like, I don't know what I'm doing wrong 😞
It definitely takes lots and lots of practice for most things on the violin to sound like they should. If you haven't already checked, maybe make sure you are in tune? I always check before I practice. I always recommend this violin tuner video for people who don't want to buy a phone app tuner or real physical one :)

Thank you! Thank you so much for making a video on the basics of the violin itself!
Was it always so hard and why does it hurt my colure bone so much
Reno Pasqualitto it is definitely tough when first first starting, you need to give your body time to adjust to the posture. But if your collarbone hurts, I’d suggest getting a shoulder rest if you haven’t already. Will make a huge difference in comfort!
Thank you Dylan! Very informative and I hope to be playing much better over the next few months!
Watched this video today, in 2016. Question for you: how's college been?
Watch this video on 19 august 2020 I’m bored af damn quarantine!!!!
hi
Thanks for the tips! I just ordered my first violin (an electric) in Amazon. Gonna be two weeks until it arrives, but I'm excited to try it!
That is so cool! I have a pickup that I can attach to my acoustic violin and it is so much fut to play around with the electric side of things :) Do you have an amp for it already?
@@MakeLoveWithMusic I don't, but I have an audio interface with some simulated guitar amp plugins that I intend to try with Ableton Live Lite
I know this is kinda late but congrats on graduating 😂
hahhaha thank you! Appreciated nonetheless ☺️

Very concise. You really did touch on a lot and it was very quick
I can't even get the violin to sit on my shoulder. I guess I need to get a shoulder rest.
Eamonn have you tried dislocating your shoulder?
Just kidding don’t lmao
@@yzxt7535 thats great advice
Hi thank you for doing this video, I have watch other violin videos and they don’t take their time like you do on explaining . I’m a flutist I play the flute and self thought on piano since a little kid , but violin is my real favorite instrument to play and i have my own violin but always wanted to learn the violin and play songs on it. I’m looking forward to other videos of yours.
I feel more comfortable without the shoulder rest, it's just too high for me.
