    This is an incredible layout with really awesome scenery and your yard is some of the most prototypical Style yard I have ever seen. I may be biased because I am a huge Conrad fanBut being a real railroader your yard is is practical and protypical. Keep up the great weathering and modeling! Joey

    When I railroaded back in the day, we used to run those flat backs with the long ends coupled together so the engineer had a more clear view behind him when we switched in yards. I find it looks cooler that way but it's also more practical.

      Thank you! I have seen some videos of the Enola hump in action and that must have been cool to see in person! I am currently working on a locomotive build series that hopefully will be finished in the next month or so that will include my process for locomotive weathering.

    Awesome tour! Wow I am modeling a string on Conrail Ballast Cars and I see some similar parched cars. I used RR Archives for prototype photos. I also just painted a NJ Brass N6A caboose. I turned mine into a rust bucket modern day shoving platform. I’m loving the videos... John

    Great work here. I'm not a indoor railway modeler, but the weathering and track are first rate. Some people forget that the track is a model, too. The tower looks like some of the old DL&W cast concrete buildings. I like that rusted EL covered hopper was in one of the videos.

  • @joevalentine2048

    Nice job on the Lackawanna tower. You got the concrete color right on. Of course you Conrailed it with blue trim and it looks great. These towers still exist a particularly good example is at Steamtown In Scranton Pa.
    nicely done.

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  5 місяців тому

      Thank you! I don't have an exact count as to how many locomotives total but I estimate it to be around 200 with 150 of that being Conrail. I only have 25 to 30 on the layout at a time.

    I really like the way that you did you rails. They really have that nice iron look I haven't seen much in model railroads. Also the trains seem to run really smooth which is awesome too. Do you have any tutorials on how you accomplished this or would you be interested in producing a video about it?
    Keep up the good work. I really like all the detail you put into the layout and rolling stock.

    Watched tour ...outstanding especially the rock cut curve...from Pittsburgh retired living in The Villages FL....Have a bunch of questions most about the cars...I model the Pittsburgh Rail scene... interested in your steel coaches and gons ...what did you do for their steel loads ?....did you design the troughs for the gons? .....appreciate and value your comments

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you Thomas! All of the steel coils are from Walthers. The scrap loads are a mix of Walthers loads and some Chooch loads that I trimmed to fit the various car sizes. The troughs in the gondola cars are all mostly made by Tangent and came with the G43 gondola kits. I also have a few troughs from State Tool and Die (www.statetoolanddie.com/).

    What an amazing layout and a great use of space!
    New to the channel, subscribed and all.
    Do you have any videos showing the lower level you mentioned?
    I think you said it was mainly storage track, but thought it would be cool to see that area too!.
    As the layout loops around the entire room, do you have to duck under the layout to exit the room?
    (Silly question as I know the true answer: you never leave) :)
    Again, great layout and video.
    Thanks for sharing!

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  2 роки тому

      Thank you! I do not have any video of the lower level as it is used for staging only and is currently a bit of a mess. The section of the layout that has the mountain cut between the paper mill curve and the bridge section was originally suppose to be a lift out section. Once I started scenery in that area I decided to leave that as a duck under instead of a lift out.

    How do you paint / weather your switches without affecting there moving parts and electrical?

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  2 роки тому

      For the switches I started by adding small jumper wires to the underside of the switch so as much of the rails are powered as possible. Also important is using tight rail joiners and soldering the joiners so that the connection going into them is good. I airbrushed on a coat of rail brown heavy to get a good base coat. Then came back and hand painted the sides of the rails being careful to paint the areas that make contact on the points as well as the areas that the points hinge at. The most important part in my opinion is getting good power in each end of the switch and powering the middle.
