No joke, we were on the verge of lighting this game on fire because of how confusing the rulebook was, especially given how our buddy who owned the game had his cards organized. Which is to say, poorly. Then someone remembered: Rodney Smith will save us! Ten minutes later we were enjoying our game. Thanks as always Rodney!
you've definitely become my favorite source for how to play video's. Thanks for sticking to the point and getting it over with quickly without missing any key points!
After receiving my KS copy at the beginning of this week, I was able to quickly learn the game thanks to Rodney! We played it tonight with my significant other, and everything went smoothly! As always, thank you for a great video! Your teaching skills are legendary!
As always, the clearest and most helpful tutorials on the web. Thanks Rodney! Playing turn-based on BGA and finally understanding what i am supposed to be doing lol.
Rodney, it's only a matter of time until someone makes a board game about breakfast foods which is sold in a circular box decorated to look like a pancake and in that moment, you will attempt the most thematically correct box lid flip of your life... All we can do now is patiently wait.
Well presented and very useful (as if it was'nt going to be! :) ) and even better than that 30 minutes after I'd finished watching the postman turned up with my kickstarter copy of the game.
Thank you for your thorough explanation. I jumped into a game on Board Game Arena and just hoped that there would be a decent video to help me with the rules 🙂.
Thanks Rodney, this was very helpful. 6:46 and 6:55 I'm pretty sure you meant to say "like the Draft Phase", not "like the Draft Limit". I could be wrong. It's a little strange that you are 'building' villagers and not buildings.
Thank you for the rules video. I have also watched Rahdo's runthrough of this and like what I see. So I'll have to see if I can get a copy somewhere - maybe UK Games Expo. :)
I am surprised this game is not more popular on BGA. besides the tricky the Road filling mechanism mostly for the sake of triggering end of the game, this game is pretty easy to pick up.!
Hey Rodney, I was wondering where you got that green, Cthulhu-looking dice tower that is on the shelf over your right shoulder. I think it is a dice tower.
Hey Bill, thanks for the interest. That's from a company that no longer exists as far as I know (I don't remember the name of the company, only that they went out of business).
I literally just watched this video because I like how you teach, wasn't interested in Villagers at all, though it does look like a nice game now that I've seen how it plays.
Another excellent video, Mr Smith, thank you for this. I just have one question - why do people have difficulty with the word vintner? It's vint-NER but I'm hearing vin-TER often. Rahdo said it too. The vintners association here represent most of the pubs so they're quite important. I felt sure, Mr Smith, with your surname you'd have known your traditional artisan trades. Anyway, as I said great video keep up the top notch work and I'd like to add my name to seeing a Pep v Rodney playthrough of this.
Not sure if anyone in the comment caught this cause I haven't gone thru them all but during the second market you are supposed to score all printed and coins on cards plus the silver symbol
This box is so much nicer. The german version just comes in a carton that is far to big and the cards can just fly around in there. Also the single player is missing. Still, great game and great explanation :)
The cards have a nice, clean graphic design that is very appealing to me. Interesting how the backs of the cards give limited information about what might be on the front. Nice.
@@WatchItPlayed at 13.48.. i watched it again and understood better.. i have a final question. When we played the game the market was revealed after the draft phase but during the build phase a card was dropped on a space before or on the market card space in exchange for a basic card. Does that mean we can't do the market phase again for that round ???
Remember, when you start the build phase, you declare your limit at THAT moment, and that determines how many cards you can pick to build. Watching this part might be the best way of understanding how that works: ua-cam.com/video/LmEfdZfQ8RQ/v-deo.html
Excuse me i have a question, Can i place the card that i discarded to the top of the market card that already opened when i taking the basic villagers?, and if i can do that is it prevent the scoring market phase?
Can I leave the villagers in villages square for the next round? Or i have to discard all unbuilt villagers in village square? I Cant really find the answer on rulebook.
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.
If the first player played something into their village on the first turn such as a Cartwright then the fourth player plays something that requires a Cartwright do they pay the first player? What about in reverse the first player plays something that requires a Cartwright but the fourth player has yet to go and hasnt yet played said Cartwright.
@@WatchItPlayed thanks for the reply. Yeah I have watched again and checked the rulebook again and it is now clear to me that villagers are played into a village in turn order. Meaning someone could end up paying money to a villager only added that round. Just felt strange that in a four player game with 48 cards in the road we were averaging about 6-7 turns meaning 1 or 2 people have more of an opportunity to be first to play into their village meaning they have more likelihood of putting a villager down that someone immediately had to pay in that same round with 1 or 2 players losing out on that opportunity as the game has ended. In our games this has correlated with winners but with only a handful of games under our belt may just be coincidence.
No joke, we were on the verge of lighting this game on fire because of how confusing the rulebook was, especially given how our buddy who owned the game had his cards organized. Which is to say, poorly.
Then someone remembered: Rodney Smith will save us!

So glad to know a fire was averted! Have fun playing :)
It's always a good day when looking for a rules video and finding Rodney has done one. Thanks for the all the great videos!

Happy to assist Reggie! BGA has been killing it with game releases of late!
Ditto! I always look for Rodneys videos first when I tackle a new BGA title
The way you teach games is wonderful.whenever I get to know about any new game I start searching your video on that game yo learn that game.
Thanks for the very kind words - so nice to know the videos have been helpful :)

Oh, you have me very excited by this idea!
I have played a game that the box look like a pizza box
My first idea for a breakfast themed game box was a box of cereal lol
Yeah, how mnay times did you have to practice flipping it haha
Hahaha
That box flip though !!! Nice one Rodney!
Thank you for this great teach! Your teaching games is always amazingly clear and with easy logical flow.

Great to see the production quality up close. Can't wait to receive my KS copy.
Also, sick flip!

What timing! I hope you have a great time playing :)
Would really like to see this being played.
"ant lab games" did a play-through followed by a review. It's on the first page of youtube if you search for "villagers board game"
Waiting for my copy, Im ready to play now when it arrives. Thanks for the great video as always. We're a fan! :)
Yay!! Now I can get to playing right when the game comes in😁😁😁
Thankyou again for a wonderful explanation! Always excellent and concise!
You're very welcome - thanks for the kind words (and the great cello playing!)
Love these. You are gifted.

I think you're right - slip of the tongue there!
And yes, I guess they wanted to keep the wording consistent, so they say "building" villages :)
Looks really great. That was your absolute best flip to date!,,
I thought so too!

I love games with themes like this one (Settlers of Catan, Machi Koro). The games are light and fun to play. Thanks, Rodney. I'll try this one. :D

Thanks for checking it out!
I'm different. I was interested in villagers but after watching this, I've lost interest
Ahhh can't wait for mine to arrive. Thanks for making this playthrough. Now I can skip the rule book Haha!
Happy to assist!
As always, great, clear explanation
Thank you kindly Tia!
Can I please request a how to play video for Streets by the same company. Having a hard time understanding how to play. Thanks!
Thanks for the interest!
Thank you Rodney very nice explication.
Very glad you liked it!
people having to pay you if you have cards that unlock things for them makes me excited that is fun counterplay
Awesome! Thanks for the how to play Rodney! Can't wait to receive my copy later this month!

I think it's because it's a word I almost never see, and when I do, I don't expect the extra N, so I don't see it. As you say, it's clearly vint-Ner.

Alittle bit confused about the silver scoring.. as u have two of the symbols required would it not have been 6 (3 x2) plus 8 plus 9 ????
Happy to try to help, can you provide a timestamp for the section you are referring to?

If during the build phase I build a carpenter does the no of cards I can build increase for that phase or do I need to wait for the next cycle

Is this available outside KS?
You'd have to ask the publish on that one!
Yes it is. I had mine in my usual FLGS.
Rodney, you forgot to include the game's page in the description. :)
Thanks for the catch - fixed!
You must have practiced that box flip a lot. And recorded many failures XD
Yes must see the fail clips.
Ha! I wanted to mix it up. Can't fall into predictable patterns :)
do you know anywhere I can buy it? I was looking for it on Amazon and in the Kickstarter page but I couldn't find a single link just a pnp Version.
I'm not sure - that's a good question for the publisher though!
You can pre-order on www.sinisterfish.com - it will also be coming to stores in June or July :)
I have the PnP of this in black and white!
Cartwright!
please play this game
Thanks for the interest!
