Nice to know the 2 most annoying traits shedding and whining are what should discourage people. Lol. I don't mind any of it. My own hair gets everywhere too and if not for the incessant whining and deep borks on occasion I'd never know what he needed or when someone was in my yard let alone at my door. He is my security and my bestie. I put up with my husband's flaws. So putting up with my big puppies is just normal. It's just what he does.

Teach your dog to bark on command in order to teach them to stop. Let them know they did a good job when they bark and that you’re aware they are alerting you. That and the place command works wonders. My 8m old pup has done so well the last month doing this

Okay, I like this idea but not quite sure how you do it. You teach a bark on command then reward it and then you follow it with the place command right after and reward that? How do you even teach the bark command? I’d like to teach my pup to bark to go out to go potty.

@@PARoth2011 let me try this again, I’ve been too short. Find something that makes your dog bark. You can UA-cam dogs barking and maybe that triggers yours to as well. My German shepherd is barking at me right now for not paying attention to her as I type this.

@@johnflaherty810 okay, got it. We do get our Collies to stop with an authoritative “Quiet” command but I should be rewarding that more. I started clicker training horses about 30 years ago, ha, maybe that’s a good time to use a clicker for the more intense sound effect while using “yes”. Thank you for the insights!

I rescued a female GSD at 2 1/2. She was an excellent dog. I’ve had my current mail GSD since he was seven weeks old and he’s for now.
Everything he said is true about the downsides. If you want a dog that can protect you and grandbabies too. The GSD is the top pick in my mind. Mine is about as smart as a nine-year-old child now I would say. He understands probably 100 words or commands. More than anything he wants to be right with me, which is a super good trait.

my German Shephard is a joy, he aims to please and is super smart, a ball of trouble when I'm cleaning with a vacuum mop or broom, I will put him in his crate and he will cry sometimes because he wants to play with everything

Greetings for the day, Mr. Will.
Could you enlighten us about the ways to determine whether a GSD is show line or working line. Based on temperament, I guess mine is a working line.
I'm glad that I found your channel, and as a Science Student I would say you really instinctively have in-depth insight into canidae family behaviour.
All the best for your future endeavors, Mr. Atherton.

Haha, I did find it helpful, and yes, you could simply walk behind them to collect stuffing for pillows but I can’t believe they bark more than my Collies who have no sheep to herd. I have two Smooth Collie boys (pillow shedders too) who not only bark but start howling like wolves which is when the hound jumps in for a resounding musical production..the GSD will fit right in LOL

Good morning! I just got my new German Shepherd puppy a few days ago and went to go over the puppy course to start training as he is 8 weeks old and the website is down 😢. He starts training classes August 2nd after he gets his second rounds of shots but wanted to start early and continue with your course along with the training course here

My rule on raising GSD. Get them pretty well trained by the time they are six months or you could have quite a handful. They grow fast.

I need help with biting! So I JUST got a 9month GSD as a rescue. She’s mouthy and I can get her to respect me and she’s learning not to mouth/bite me. She’s improved a lot over the 2 weeks she’s been here, but she’s not perfect yet. The problem is. She bites, nips and mouths my 3 children, especially when playing. But it’s bad. She full on bit my daughters leg today just because she was excited because the kids were excited. (That over stimulation) She feeds off their energy. I can’t get her to stop biting at the kids even though I can get her to stop biting me. How do I fix this?

Generally, you’ll have issues with them trying to herd them since GSDs are just that, a herding breed. Since they are highly trainable you can teach them not to, but they can have a stubborn streak.

  • @hekurucuk
    @hekurucuk Рік тому

If you teach your dog when to bark and when not to, it is not a problem. As a trainer, you should know better that any dog you get and leave alone without training or adapting to your life, you^ll have problems!

Having a human child and a German Shepherd are the same thing. The German Shepherd just stays mentally 5 years old and lives for 9 to 14 years
    Lol
But by far the best dog I have had.
