Straight backs all the way. And recognition of the champagne GSD should be made. I have a stunning 15 month old long coat black and silver GSD. Fantastic temperament and so very goofy. Typical velcro GSD and he is my absolute heartbeat. Waited 40 yrs for my situation to be right and he was worth the wait. Hes gorgeous 💖💖💖

Have 2gsd & 1 great dane. The both are so amazing but Def require consistency & guidance. Very smart dogs & I will love them for life 🥰 they protect & I swear never miss a thing! Love this! 💯

Yes, I deliberately chose a kennel who breeds a 'German 'show line" with good temperament. I knew certainly that I didn't need a working line. Most importantly to me was the HEALTH of the puppy. I lost both my last two GSD to DM which I would never wish upon any person who loves the breed as much as I do. The deterioration was almost unbearable and I think I still grieve my two late sweethearts. Your information is right on, however. It seems to me that the "show line" I thought I was getting has the characteristics and streak of the working line. His temperament is fantastic BUT the working portion requires far most focus on MY end to ensure that his behaviour conforms to the "socially acceptable - continuum"! because it can deviate really dramatically if I don't stay on top of him!!

I have a black German Shepherd longhaired and he is huge. He weighs 130 pounds and is he gorgeous. He is very friendly with everyone and a gentle giant but he can be quite stern if he has to be. He is the biggest German Shepherd I ever had or seen. He is a show line dog. To me it makes no sense to have a working line unless you're dog is doing police work or military work. Most people who have a German Shepherd is looking for a great breed and a protection dog. Working line dog's constantly need work to do. The show line also needs plenty of exercis🦴♥️👍🌞🌞🌞🐾

@@freddie3206 congrats on the hip problems with a massive dog that isn’t supposed to be that size.

Absolutely loved it! Oh thank goodness that the sloped back is going to be a thing of the past! How anyone thought that was a desirable look leaves me scratching my err..head. That said, I am about to look at several female rescue GSDs age 14 mos to 4 yrs and they all get along with other dogs. The Panda colored Shepherd has papers, the others do not. I have no clue what kind of lines these dogs come from. As a previous owner 20 yrs ago, I have some insight and now that I’m older, wiser and follow your videos and Tom Davis, I successfully apply those lessons to my little pack which works well…except for the rescue hound..lol I love playing ball and fetch and am even willing to hook a little cart to trot around our neighborhood, whatever it takes to wear her out. So my question is, what about rescue GSDs, is there something specific we should be looking for and avoiding?

When you talk about the working line dog you keep showing a white or champagne shepherd. Working line gsds are invariably sable or even dark enough sable to look black. The white or other variations are not considered to be a proper gsd. You won't find one in police kennels or dog shows. There is an effort to get them recognized as true variations of the breed.
You forgot to mention the year round heavy shed in addition to the seasonal super-shed and the high C whine that will pierce your ears and brain. I love my shepherds and am willing to take the good and the bad, but some people can't deal with the house, clothes, car and house heating units being covered with hair and occasionally seasoning the food. Others will go crazy with the high C whine they emit whenever things don't go perfectly their way. Most are pretty proficient barkers, given that they get lots of practice. Those are minor annoyances for living with the finest breed in the world. There are dogs and there are truly wonderful dogs and then there is the german shepherd.

I wish there were more mind games for them that don’t require much food.
