In 1952 the castle was known as BARROGILL CASTLE! The Castle, Gardens and Parkland (which extended for 30 Acres ) were renovated between 1953/1955!
The Queen Mother restored the Castle's original name changing BARROGILL CASTLE back to the CASTLE OF MEY!
The Queen Mother spent 3 weeks in August and around 10 days in October!
The Castle is on the Caithness North Coast of Scotland, approximately 6 miles from the West of John o'Groats!

It's quite sad when she tears up, knowing her secret's out. There were probably few times in her life where someone was relaxed and authentic with her, allowing them to form a true friendship, rather than seeing her for her title and role as the Queen Mother and acting with deference. As he realises who she is, she sees that disappearing, knowing she'll likely never find it again, and mourns it. Good moment!

I’ve had the same experiance in rl. Back in 1999 here in Greenland Kangerlussuaq. Science hotel. I came in the living room where 3 very very full bearded men were watching Flatliners. When I intered I greeted them in English. But they turned out the be Danes. So our conversation tuned to Danish. One of them was very friendly and curious, asked about me and my works. And was very hospitable and welcomming. We saw the film through. And when it finished. I got up say my goodbye. And left. Just as soon as I exsited, my coworker. Asked how was he. D’you know who that was? I replied. Who? Turned out the very friendly and curious man was our then Crown Prince Frederik. Who is now our King.

I had a similar experience once, caught an early morning flight with KLM and there was only myself and one other passenger (we were treated like royalty ironically), we were greeted by one of the pilots who was very hospitable and informed us he'd be flying us today and we had a bit of a chat, I remembered him because he had a bit of a resemblance to my dentist.
Few days later I see the guy in a photo on a news article - turns out he is the Dutch King who part-time flew commercial flights as a kind of hobby.

And yet the idea of retiring to Scotland was abandoned. She stayed in Windsor to bully and coerce her children and grandchildren. Margaret could have married happily and come to Canada, Australia, Sri Lanka, Kenya, the West Indies? And lived in peace. Phillip might not have sent Charles to Gordonstoun School, to get him away from Granny.

The Crown is NOT a documentary. Margaret could have married happily if she was willing to give up the perks of being a member of the Royal Family. She was given the choice, she chose position over love. Lack of experience and education? They were home schooled, having some of the best tutors available, this was not that unusual amongst the aristocracy. The Queen was fluent in French & Doric, and spoke some German & Spanish. Philip, whose own childhood and adolescence was precarious flourished at Gordonstoun, he thought Charles would do the same however misguided that was.

The BRF, like other royal families
      accrued their money for centuries.
In most countries the royals were the
      country's largest landowners. There
are Dukes in UK who own more land
on their estates than the BRF does
      on their personal estates.
In UK: Windsor Great Park (and all of it's
      buildings), Buckingham, Kensington, St.
      James Palaces, Holyrood House (Scotland)
belong to the Crown, just like the crown jewels.
For the monarch to use but not own.
The monarch (Charles iii) outright owns
Balmoral Castle and its grounds, Clarence
      House (London) and the Sandringham
Estate. He also owns his personal
residence that he had as Prince of Wales,
"Highgrove House" in Gloucester, UK .
I am not completely sure of the history of
Clarence House, but I think that it was
purchased (or given for use) to Elizabeth
and Prince Philip as a wedding present
from King George VI. (After all, Elizabeth
was the heir apparent/ Princess of Wales)
Later, after she became queen, her mother
(the Queen Mum) "downsized" to Clarence
House. Philip and Elizabeth had spent a
lot of money upgrading the mechanics
and restoring the building when they owned/
lived in it. They did not want to live in
Buckingham Palace. But the Prime Minister
(Churchill) and the Queen Mum insisted
that Elizabeth and Philip live in Buckingham
      Palace.
Charles has talked about changing BP to
having only a very small royal apartment
(for use by the king when events are held)
and the king himself to reside in Clarence
House (to save money). Then turning over
BP to be used as offices and grace/favor
residences as well as a place for visiting
      dignitaries.
