    The thing that would make Si difficult is it's a function that works with patterns from past experience, it takes years to accumulate that experience, to have a reliable model of the world. You have years of using Si and failing at it because lack of experience has given you a false view of the world. The other functions are built upon successes, Si is built on failures.

    my parents are esfjs (so they value Si greatly) and everytime I try something new for the first time, like cutting a vegetable for dinner, they'll tell me the right way to cut with the knife, and when I ask them why it has to be cut that way, she said "because I cut myself once." It took the Si user failing at things to see what works. Ne and Se function like a reward system: i try this new idea/ experience and it worked out great so I'll use it! whereas Si users have.. almost what seems like a punishment system for their mistakes that tells them what works and what doesn't

    I've noticed Si people get stuck on things more. They can seemingly never let anything go, and keep bringing something to an experience which makes it bad for them when they don't need to. I think that's the main thing they suffer from, more so than 'never feeling like they've go enough data'.

      That's so true. As an Si dom I can honestly say that I am the slowest to noticing the slight changes in the universe unless I have had prior experience to the situation presented. It makes me appear too grounded to the point of deeming others who came with an approach that is so out of the box to mine as 'careless' or 'hazardous.'
      It has made me realize that just because I do things a certain way, it doesn't deem it as the 'best' approach. And with society occupying a majority of SJ's I can see that we make dumb decisions out of fear from our past.

I expect everyone to treat me like they always have, and thus I have to keep them at a distance and withhold parts of myself. Si is such a misunderstood function. People think it's all about being literal, duties, working, routines, facts etc. And sometimes it is... But don't forget it's an introverted/subjective perceiving function. That's my melancholic world of dreams and pararel worlds. Si is actually pretty similar to Ni, it's just Si is more concerned with the real world - my inner world of imagination is connected to the repeated events happening in real world (that's why we love Christmas so much), when Ni is more abstract. Just as I said... People don't understand Si because they don't read Jung's descriptions at all.

What makes ESFJs so interesting is also, our Si is connected to Ne, so our melancholic and nostalgic feeling can pretty easily create new forms of art etc. Just look at the lyrics written by Taylor Swift, such as "All too well" you can literally visualise the situation and "feel it" just from listening to it

    As an ISFJ I think I’m very good at Si, I see it, other ppl were telling me too. I remember details. I often use Si -Ti to remember things, organize them logically and state the facts. I just love doing that and see faces of people when I tell them the facts lol The facts that I have just because I remember what was said or done by that person before and connect them to what’s happening or being said now. Solving mysteries is totally my thing.
    The cons is that I also remember negative things. Things that I want to forget. This is when I just hate my Si and I wish I didn’t have it

No matter what I do: read, watch a movie, play a video game, or talk to a friend... my memory always wander, searching for a missing piece of a puzzle that I hold in my head. I can go around my business and unintentionally spot a missing piece of a puzzle, and then another one... and so on. it's hard to explain.
      It's not like I reminiscence. Imagine you are looking for a book in the library or searching for something online - this is how it works. Everything is connected to something I once experienced (or observed), and if it's something new - I see if I can add it up to what I already know - now I have an aisle related to one specific topic.
      I can definitely be scattered and aloof when I'm not busy doing something like working. But even when I'm busy Si is always in the background, it's just there no matter what I do.
      However, everything has its pros and cons. I can stagnate using Si function as the one and only source of knowledge. I can get stuck to my experiences and conclusions and have a hard time accepting new ideas... unless you provide a rationale. This is why I need more Te users in my life. And once again, half of the viewers seem to miss the point of this video. As an ISTJ, HELL YEAH do I feel this! I was mistyped as an INTJ for years, and it was one of the worst things for me to realise that it was goddamn obvious that I wasn't one. It's painful to me when I miss things where the evidence is right there for all to see. Just like the N's are going "How did I miss this pattern?", I'm going "How did I miss that fact?". Especially when I'm seeing it with my own two eyes. Understanding that my own experience is subjective is a difficult thing to go through, because I'm fallible like everyone else, and if sensory data is my saviour, hell yeah it's gonna sting when I can't see them. I can forget a lunch date or screw up at work or leave my phone on the bus and get over it, but what if I miss something that really matters- a friend's quiet cry for help, an oncoming vehicle, an opportunity that I shouldn't pass up because I wasn't paying attention? It sucks for everyone, but for me it's a deeply faulted failure. I suck at my first function because I am a human being who will inevitably get distracted, and there's nothing in the world that's going to change that. I have no choice but to learn my lessons and try to grow- especially in my demon Ne.

    • @nickh.1110

      Kelsey Stanbrook - I’m there with you on both accounts. A LOT of people get an ego from MBTI because it can give a narrative to traits they value about themselves. When a video like this comes out that forces a paradigm shift, the result is never pretty.
      I’m an INFJ and when something happens that I should’ve seen coming I want to bang my head against the wall. “Why didn’t I pay attention to the patterns?” I’ll ask myself. I’ll do a little reading and jump to conclusions about something, sometimes bending over backwards to make the evidence fit the message. It’s hard to catch yourself with your pants down, but to become a better person requires you to face your worst self daily.

    Si IS hard, it some ways it is a bit like Ni, except Ni is future based, Si is based in the past. When I'm in savior mode (Si) it takes me so long to process because I HAVE to compare it to the past and remember thoughts and emotions associated with it and it's like putting together a puzzle. Like Sherlock Holmes!! One of my favorite things to do when I was a kid what putting together puzzles and I still love it!! Creating timelines also...I can, so vividly hear a song or see a movie or show, or memorabilia and remember what I was doing and what part of my life I was in. I can go right back to those moments and remember exactly the feelings I had associated with it. Therefore, it's so easy to get stuck there and not act on the current sensory data of my current reality, so I can lose track of time easily when I go there. It's like a magical world of my past experiences. Someone can mention a topic of discussion, and automatically it will remind me of something from my past, and I can recall it in vivid detail like a story from a storybook, complete with mental pictures and feelings. My Ne shows up in novelty ideas, I love doing something for the first time and committing it to memory. Every single detail I take in and put in my mental file cabinet where I can retrieve it and relive it at any time. When I get super stressed out I do tend to jump into my Ne demon and start thinking about all of the possibilities, new ways to do things that might be more efficient, and it's easy to get lost down that rabbit hole in the abstract world where I try to find spiritual meaning, yes... into the hippie mentality and the realm of fantasy.

I don't really understand her, but she is the consummate mother. A whole set of extended family depend on her. Yet, she never feels like she excels at anything. She never feels like she's enough. Those feelings haunt her despite her habit of putting them aside to achieve amazing things. Your video helps me to understand a little better. It also helps me deal with my own Si, which sucks.

    i literally laughed when you said the thing about ENFP and their Si lol because it's kind of true. but people don't realise how ENFPs actually appreciates people with high Si. Most ENFPs tent to aspire to have higher commende on their Si because they are aware of how it can be beneficial in life in general. This is especially true as they grow older. Si may be their enemy, ENFPs will try to befriend it eventually as they mature. Even if it never gets easy.

    I think, in addition, Si is a very scrutinising, more so self scrutinising function. Si and Ti together means the person is almost never gonna be happy. Fi (I'm an INFP) would probably be like, oh I understand that everyone goes through this at some point of time, while Ti would kill themselves looking for the reason.

      Hey Rohan! I'm INFP too, but with Si saviour. I understand intellectually that other people go through the self-scrutinising stuff (and it's normally people's response when I try to share it with them), but I'm terrible at it. Blasting with 3rd and 4th function Si & Te with Si as a saviour feels like living in a Saw film, but part of you always seems to enjoy pulling yourself back into it for a sequel.

      the thing about ti is unlike fi who seems to worry about everything for long periods of time us ti users(IM an INTP) will often find a reasonable explanation for our failures even if that reason is just I suck at this. its enough for our ti to be satisfied and for us to stop being mad the actual problem is fe because fe inferior makes you feel like you go around murdering everyone's family infrount of them by accident everytime you open your mouth or exist in the same area as someone else for more than 5 secounds.

    Si-doms god bless, the reason they feel they suck at their Si (when objectively speaking they’re probably better than most of us) is that even if their hero isn’t De, they still want to be useful to the tribe(usually moreso in the traditional sense than inxj’s; which I’ve seen both flip the bird to the tribe) and that can lead to them biting off more than they can chew(doing all the chores, doing all the party planning, staying late at work to help backlogged work, etc). And underneath all of the chaos they created by not having realistic expectations of what human is capable of doing they feel that they’re failing at life, which again nobody can see their hero causing their life problems and we need an outside perspective who can probably see it right away.

But none of the descriptions I read really matched for me. I had to do some puzzling and searching through my history of times that I came to an impasse and chose either x-function or y-function based on my natural instincts and beliefs -- and for that matter, the distinction between Judging and Perceiving had never seemed remotely easy to choose or natural to me. I struggled with J vs P still even after more or less deciding between the others but much less after I looked at the actual functions (Si vs Se, etc.). I think we like the details also.

    Si = memory of sensation.
    Ni= memory of patterns

    Ti = Logic memory.
    Which is why an average:
    INTP has better memory of what 12 × 22 is than an ISFJ.
    INFP has better memory of someone's character traits than an ISTJ.
    INFJ can better remember psychological patterns within people than an ISFJ.

      not hard, per se. confusing, i would say so since Ti and Fi ask the same question but it's the motive that sets the difference between the 2 as one tries to check on the "truths" while the other checks out if s/he feels good about it.
      as a Ti guy, i tend to base my decision on what i have learned to be true. i am saying "what i learned to be true" because Ti can be quite subjective and relies heavily on the data gathered.
