  • What's this? Something that is not a Powerstroke? Yes, I actually work on other things, too. How about a little vintage quad project for some variety! Check out this nice little utility quad I picked up and see how we get started rehabbing the machine into something usable.

      You can tell from the VIN number which is stamped on the frame at its lowest point. Find the 10th digit, which indicates the model year. These digits run "J" through "Y" for 1988 through 2000

    • @diymechanictv1233
      @diymechanictv1233  3 роки тому

      The VIN is scraped off mine in the 8-11 digits, which is why I can't determine exactly what year it is.

    I have my own big bear 350 and I love it. It’s a 1995 so I would assume yours is maybe a 97 or 98? I got mine for free from a friend who cleans up junk from peoples land, and it didn’t run at all and it’s the best four wheeler we have now that it runs so I hope you have as much fun as I do with mine

    I’d say that’s a late 80s bike because mine is a 98 and they didn’t have high low range then it was just the straight 5 speed semi automatic they lost high low range in the early 90s or late 80s not sure which

    How do you deal with the rust?

    • @diymechanictv1233
      @diymechanictv1233  3 роки тому

      Well, I'm not a fan of the rust, but this is a workhorse for us and not a collectible, so we do what we can to preserve it and keep it running, but aren't too concerned about cosmetics.

    I bought a big bear 350 4x4 1998 he sold it because electric start wouldn't work so I bought a new ignition with keys. Installed it. Didn't work. What do you think it could be? Also how do I remove the battery? Pull start works great:)

    • @diymechanictv1233
      @diymechanictv1233  3 роки тому +1

      The battery on mine is just held on place (under the left rear fender) with a strap. Remove the strap and it slides out into the fender well.
      When you say the electric start doesn't work, does it turn over at all when you press the start button? Does it click? Does it do anything?

    • @PaymentsBC
      @PaymentsBC 3 роки тому

      @@diymechanictv1233 no it doesn't do anything he said it used to light up when turning the key

    • @diymechanictv1233
      @diymechanictv1233  3 роки тому

      I'd say if your battery isn't dead, start by checking all the electrical connections under the seat and fender.

    • @Desmo-
      @Desmo- 3 роки тому +1

      I would try jumper cables direct to the starter if it does not turn you will have to remove the starter, if you have a electric shop ( they rebuild starters, generators and such ) nearby take to them ask what it would cost to rebuild it, should be less than a new one.

    Think Yamaha had that color from 87-89 for the Big Bear. Mine is same color, but is an 87. Warn makes a winch mount that will mount the winch on the frame bars behind the front bumper like you are looking for. www.warn.com/winch-mount-big-bear-350-28876 If a guy was handy, I'm sure one could make thier own fairly easy tho. These quads are not fast compared to the newer quads, but are built and run like a tank! One weak spot is the intake manifold tube. They tend to crack/break, so may want to check that out as well if it isn't running right. Have fun with it!

    • @normankruesel3140

      @@diymechanictv1233 I plow snow with mine and there's no protection, snow gets into them, turns to ice, and then they get ripped next time you move it. Curse of an unheated garage.
      U joints apparently like to go on these quads.
      Also I believe that the big bear 350 has drum brakes, not caliper.
      I have to critic your video and say that you shouldn't cut out the parts where you are working on the machine. If anyone is following your video to attempt a repair, then you're cutting out valuable information. If you must edit it, then you can speed it up so it can be slowed down again if needed.
