I was diagnosed with narcolepsy at 19 and been a struggling for ten years with this shit. Sleep disorders suck when you have to function with like everyone else’s time schedules. My husband has insomnia so we’re polar opposites with our struggles LOLOL
Narcolepsy is also insomnia. It prevents you from staying asleep, you will wake up and fall asleep so fast you don't even notice that you woke up, basically meaning you can never get good sleep. sincerely someone with narcolepsy, non-24, and insomnia... :(
I wanted to thank you for inadvertently helping me self-diagnose my sleep disorder. About 10 years ago, i had to give up my mon-fri day shift and I started a graveyard shift where I work 8pm-9am fri, sat, sun nights. It wasn't my choice, and I thought I would only be able to do that shift for a couple months. But what i noticed was it was somehow way easier to keep that schedule as opposed to my day shift. When i worked a day shift it was extremely difficult for me to get myself to bed, and wake up on time. With my current shift i basically just have to follow my own internal clock. I stay up later and later and then it just sort of wraps around. I always thought my sleeping patterns were insomnia, but the part that never made sense was that when I'm tired i can fall asleep just fine. Then in one of your streams, you mentioned non24 and all of the sudden it all clicked. It just made so much sense. So thanks man i really appreciate you. You've helped me to understand and optimize my schedule in a way that has improved my life and health immensely. Keep being awesome 😎
Re sleep disorders: 20 years ago I had my first overnight sleep study and multiple sleep latency test done to check for sleep disorders. They diagnosed me with delayed sleep phase syndrome but an official diagnosis of narcolepsy from that study alone was "inconclusive." In 2009, I had four nose and throat surgeries to correct breathing issues and recurring headaches but in 2017 was still diagnosed with sleep apnea regardless. 20 years after the original 2004 sleep study, a little over a month ago, I had another sleep study and MSLT done at the same sleep clinic and they _finally_ gave me that diagnosis of narcolepsy, narcolepsy I knew I had for more than 20 years but that original 2004 study wouldn't officially give me because I was falling asleep _in between_ the designated sleep periods of the MSLT rather than during those given periods and they don't keep the instruments hooked up during the in-between periods. 20 years of going undiagnosed and untreated because they have rigid testing methodologies that don't take into account real-world influences and external factors. Sleep science seems to have come a long way even in the past 20 years, but unless the testing catches up with the times to take factors from more modern lifestyles into account then peeps will be suffering without any solutions other than to self-medicate with copious amounts of stimulants like I did; I used to drink at least two and upwards of four 15-16 fl.oz. cans of Starbucks Double-Shot Espresso daily when I was working full-time, for example, and would swap it out for Rockstar Energy Mean Bean Vanilla Java when the Starbucks was out of stock.
As someone with narcolepsy, non-24, and insomnia... I agree, they really need to fix... well, a lot of things. Having many sleep tests done before getting a different sleep specialist who gave me an MSLT at just the right time to get narcolepsy diagnosis but the they went out of business and none of the other doctors I was working with has that data and I can't get retested because non-24 got so bad it messes it up plus the severe migraines I get from interrupted sleep and now I'm strait up bedridden... Then there's the other sleep specialist who claims the narcolepsy diagnoses is wrong because I was taking medicine (that doesn't effect sleep...) and I can't have non-24 because only blind people have that, so I must just be a lazy child who just wants to stay up late. He hated my guts for some reason. Also, studies have shown young children's circadian rhythms usually start out early and move later as time goes on, meaning teenagers are supposed to be going to sleep and getting up late because that's how the body works but NO force our children to be severely sleep deprived during school and then call them lazy... FFS BTW, sleep medication always prevents getting [good] REM sleep so it may feel like you are getting sleep but your intelligence will slowly drop along with your memory and critical thinking skills turning you into a zombie or an idiot. Different types of medicines do this at different speeds. People with narcolepsy are somewhat resistant to this change for whatever reason. Evidence: I get the same type of migraine when I don't get REM sleep and all medications that effect sleep in some way will cause that migraine. And lastly (that I can think of today) we treat disabled people, especially those with invisible disabilities, like absolute shit. I'm still unable to get on disability despite being bedridden and have only been getting worse for 20 years... Sorry for the rant. I'm tired and grumpy lol.
That level was fantastic! About the circadian rhythm: The solar cycle is about 23.95 hours, so if your circadian rhythm is tuned to that, and you live by 24 hour routines, you'll gain or lose time as if you have non-24-hour circadian rhythm disorder. The disorder might be getting induced in ordinary people (who have no other sleep disorder) just by the rigidity of the 24-hour system. I also have that disorder, and am also misdiagnosed with insomnia instead. If you think you might be in the same boat, consider these questions: Did they give you sleep meds, and did those work or did they make you do anything *except* sleep? If they kept you up, or did nothing, the problem might not be treatable with medication.
Listening to that bit about sleep was really interesting in the background of a 4-hour endeavour to fall asleep (it's currently 6am) (I have been lying down since 2am) (but this is just insomnia) (yes I'm aware watching videos and using screens is a bad idea but it works alright most nights and also lying down for hours is really boring)
Shit, that is something that I need to ask my doctor about next week since I never knew it was a thing. Every time I wake up I gain six hours up to five days, and I always thought it was bad insomnia. I am always so goddamn tired, cannot keep a schedule, and have been dealing with this shit since I hit puberty 28/29 years ago. I'm on a fuckton of medications. Thanks for talking about it. The issue led to severe opiate addiction for the last 25 years, I've been a recovering addict for six years and five days at the time of this comment. I've been hooked on Sagan for eight years and I don't think there is a known cure. I know Sagadone is being tested, but I heard that the side effects are fucking bad, like shitting spaghetti, blindness and a lot of deaths.
I just played this yesterday and I literally thought "I wonder if Carl will play this one" Edit: I'm sad it took Carl so many times to see the CP1, I got CP1'd my first time through that part and absolutely loved the setup
@LolosPy custom scroll always makes the camera move until it hits a scroll stop, it doesnt let cam move from mario's position. this isnt custom scroll
Hey Carl, love your videos, love the recent Binding of Issac videos on your other channel. I saw your ending clip concerning non Circadian rhythms. I was wondering if you could reference a good book or documentary to learn more about this? I suffer from irregular sleep cycles and this interests me. Thank you ahead of time
what you have is closer to dopplegief syndrome rather than non-24. The human body naturally wants to operate on a 25 hour clock. People with dopplegief syndrome can't control when they fall asleep, only when they wake up. Non-24 is more severe. People with non-24 can't control when they wake up. Considering that you have a job in a good field, I would presume it to be the former rather than the latter.
Petition to get Carl to play the DOS game Ecstatica! (Pretty sure it's on steam) It's trolly and jank but also short and funny and good for chat to backseat 😂
i see carl's wearing his invisibility shirt today
You mean you DONT see, right?
He also has the sleep schedule from HPMOR so maybe it's the deathly hallow invisibility cloak
He just forgot to put on his body
I just watched nearly the whole video and only just noticed
Just was about to comment this, but nope. Top comment already.
I'm so good at taking blood tests.
They always give me an "A+"
larl...
The only thing positive about me is my blood type.
5+ years on this channel and l've never been able to guess the punchline.
I got an "O" on my test, did I pass? I don't see this on the rubric
I had my patience tested recently. Came back negative
i didnt even notice the bloopahs formed an F at first

…my sleeping problems sound very similar.
I have times where my delay goes full circle until it matches the normal cycle again…

i was institutionalized once and they gave me a large dose of trazodone and all that happened was me getting very high
The glorious evol- level, I mean level
Hello viktor fan
Hi Carl
Hi again Carl
It took me too long to realize why two dudes were sitting at C tier...
About 5 seconds, but that's still way too long lol
What perfect timing for a new Larl.
Is the F major key in the D category because it's its relative minor scale? Lmao
Omg that’s amazing
this feels like a good smm1 level
The F key in D (minor) tier was amazing - Awesome edits!
Accidentally dodging a troll in the first minute, off to a great start
Listening to that bit about sleep was really interesting in the background of a 4-hour endeavour to fall asleep (it's currently 6am) (I have been lying down since 2am) (but this is just insomnia) (yes I'm aware watching videos and using screens is a bad idea but it works alright most nights and also lying down for hours is really boring)
_UNTROLLABLE™_
6:10 - pure karma
14:41 LMAO, F Tier is in F Tier xD
As usual, the editing is in S tier!
Carl wearing the void this stream. He's just a floating head at this point. His head will be preserved forever
That was 100% a launcher, until the real launcher appeared 😲
These troll levels and your discovery are so much more compelling than 90% of Mario content
What a great F’in level
This is the best troll level in a while. Bloopers are so cute too!
You have got to be SQUIDDING me with how much fun rewatching this is!
Shit, that is something that I need to ask my doctor about next week since I never knew it was a thing. missed your troll vids lately. thanks for posting carl :)
3:12 THE MIGHTY MOLE WIZARD
"asserts dominance" immediately bamboozled
... wait. The whole 'drifting' wake time thing has a _name_?
Yeah, Non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder, or non-24 for short.
10:27 We see here that Carl no longer believes in troll magic. Quite sad, like seeing someone having been taught that Santa is not a real person.
Does that mean daylight savings could have an effect on circadian rhythm?
Not particularly for most people. Generally a healthy person's circadian rhythm will adjust to new sleep patterns in a matter of days
Please keep playing great troll levels. This was incedible
We got floating Larl head before GTA 6!
Don't lose it Carl! You've still got IT! Send in the softlock saviors.
OMG I have that too. Can you get SSI for it? Seriously makes trying to do anything at a specific time, like a normal job, unbearable.
Great video carl ur so good at Mario u just jumped right into my heart
F yes! I need some troll in my life today!
the meta joke of the f tier list with colonel sanders in c tier...jfkfc
Even better the second watch thru
Good to see Dave didn't cut the tapes :^)
The freaking glorious blooper in the beginning😂😂😂
I just played this yesterday and I literally thought "I wonder if Carl will play this one"
Edit: I'm sad it took Carl so many times to see the CP1, I got CP1'd my first time through that part and absolutely loved the setup
the fake blaster is up there with the fake walls and fake screen edge :D
Oh hey I actually made it to this stream... only after he started playing World of Warcraft and talking about N24, so the level was still new to me!
wait 1:49 how are they able to make the screen stop scrolling? there's a gap at the top of the level, that shouldn't be possible
Troll magic
Don't worry about it :)
Custom auto scroll? I really don’t know actually how screen scroll works but they out of scrolling definitely is used to do that
@LolosPy custom scroll always makes the camera move until it hits a scroll stop, it doesnt let cam move from mario's position. this isnt custom scroll

The F was majestic, but the elevator was even funnier.
Wow, that was an incredible CP1.
Ok, the fake launcher is genius.
Hmm I guess Jetlag, comes from the body needing time to adjust the circadian rhythm then too?
Why have I never seen a Blooper with its babies on a track like that before?

What the F is going on?
Oh, that's the F that's going on 🦑
I did not realize this was a new video.
Petition to get Carl to play the DOS game Ecstatica! (Pretty sure it's on steam)
It's trolly and jank but also short and funny and good for chat to backseat 😂
I’m a Carl watching-machine
10:24 Did the editor add the stiletto sound effect here?
You should make a blooper reel of your failed lab experiments
Are we just gonna ignore the fact that the note block goes from the lower left to the upper right here?!??? WTF? 7:20
Didnt know he plays classic wow.
Ye he started playing (again, after many years) on a permadeath server which I think is invite-only and has some other content creators in it
At this point just give the players an advasnced editor with events and stuff
22:56 Environmental Station Alpha vibes.
So it was worth the money?
I’ll see myself out…
oh my god
i swear making a good troll level is fucking hard, i'd be better at painting with my feet
What about playing Mario with your feet? Speedrunners do that
I can’t wait to watch this video!!!😅
Carl, how do you get diagnosed with that disorder. It sounds a lot like my sleep cycle. Now I am thinking of asking my doctor.
was brother playing wow? where can I watch carl play wow?
I also have non-24 which supposedly is hella rare in non-blind people. Does CarlBlind count for this?
What are your views on melatonin supplements?
