@ThePrint Shekhar, having lived in Kolkata for the last 25 years, I've witnessed its transformation firsthand. I can confidently say that the TMC government has caused more harm to West Bengal than any previous Governments. The TMC government has significantly reduced direct recruitment in the government sector, particularly in the police force. Instead, TMC workers are being brought in as volunteer traffic police and police man, allowing the party to exert control over the administration at a local level. This means that if any one specially TMC worker misbehaves or commit crime against someone, it's difficult to file a complaint because the person at the police station might also be a TMC worker in uniform, acting as a volunteer police. These contract-based jobs not only ensure votes from their families-who fear losing their livelihood if the government changes-but also allow the party to maintain a stronghold. The same pattern is being observed in other government offices, like the RTO and even in schools. This situation is particularly concerning given the high unemployment rate, as qualified candidates from villages and other districts are being sidelined in favor of party loyalists, who are being offered jobs on a contractual basis, compelling them to show unwavering loyalty to the party to secure their employment.
Sheikh Hasina could have learnt from Momta, instead she tried to reserve jobs for her supporters and lost her throne, but Asish this is the playbook of the communists to stick to power.
I was in an icu waiting room. A girl was crying, some miscreant touched her inappropriately without her knowledge, another women not related her saw and shouted at him. He ran away . Nobody is safe ,this is a very reputed private hospital, Kasturba hospital, Manipal.
Very disappointed with this reporting by Shekhar Gupta, he missed several points why post mortem was done in the same college where the incident happened, also some portions around the seminar hall was broken down today, yes her body was cremated hurriedly, why did you not mention kolkata high courts observations on the police and administration. There is a clear cut administration involvement, shekhar gupta trying his best to say otherwise.
1. The post-mortem WAS NOT CONDUCTED AT THE SAME HOSPITAL as the one in which the incident occurred. 2. The cremation was conducted by the family. You are possibly right that they should have waited for the investigation to be clearer about the sources of various injuries. 3. The complicity of the local administration should be open for judgement based on the investigation. I agree. But Mr. Gupta uses the word "seems" too often. This is a bad opinion piece. This is why ThePrint is no longer reliable.

Completely understand and appreciate the Doctors protest. But why is TMC protesting and against whom?? Being in power for such a long time and doing thuggery day in day out, when will these politicians become human beings???
Looking at the values of men in Indian society and the brutality of crimes they commit towards women i.e. physical, psychological and emotional, i honestly feel India needs more of value education than technical knowledge.Value education will not only come from government but from families, from societies. Families need reform first. Focus in light of such incidents shifts to 1) Safety norms in workplaces, cities 2) State government and Central government negligence 3) Fault of Police and bureaucracy. Though this is vital but it is not root cause of problems. We don't focus on building right attitude at all. The first time your boy child acts disrespectful towards a female, you must punish them there. And teach the girl to be upfront towards disrespect. We all have gone wrong at the roots. We only focus on stems, branches and fruits of our own teachings. No one focuses in their homes. You socialize your boys wrongly, you make them epitomes of patriarchy, you dont teach them right values and they become 24*7 sex searching vultures. First we need to reform homes. Teach boys to be humane, respectful, and teach our girls to be courageous.
Many mothers themselves turn a blind eye to their son's disrespectful behavior towards girls. They see it as 'my son is getting strong to face the society' and 'my son is never wrong'. In many societies they don't act even when their son acts disrespectful towards their own daughter. If women themselves have this mindset towards their son, who is going to save their daughters?
This heinous crime is being protested nationwide because the victim is a doctor. These crimes are being committed everyday on ordinary defenceless women across the nation. But no media space is ever given to these victims. This incident also tells us that media/civil society gets involved when a person who belongs to "us" is attacked. When it happens to "them" we just go about in our lives. We don't care.
1)Why aren't there a restroom for doctors near their dutyroom? 2)Why there weren't any security while lady doctors work at night? 3) Why a doc would work for 36hrs? 4)Why the hospital managers and authorities didn't look into these matters? 5) Why almost all hosp administration are held in the hand of arrogant hospital managers ? Who are least concerned regarding the safety and security of the duty staffs? 6) Why the GOVT system depend so much on hosp managers not on the hospital docs who work in ground level and face the difficulties? 7) Why aren't the Distric authorities least concerned about these? 8) HOW much do you feel safe to leave your daughters to work in such hospital environment? 9) Who will you blame for this?

A voice recording/message from a nurse of the same R. G Kar Medical School is being shared on social media. In the message, she identifies herself as "Soma Mukherjee". In this message, Soma says that it is a planned murder orchestrated by the principal and executed by a group of interns. The guy who was caught committed the rape on the dead body. He is a delinquent guy, was drinking outside the building, and was sent by the murderers "to have fun" after they had mercilessly killed the girl. There were four interns including a girl. They are part of an extortion gang, run by the principal who extorts money from interns for issuing completion certificates, etc. The victim refused payment and threatened to expose and that led to the brutal murder. There are many such messages by (allegedly) Jr. Doctors, interns, etc. who claim that failed medical students pay money (INR 10L) to clear a subject, interns are harassed by delaying their certificates till they pay up, etc. The kingpin is the principal. While verifying such messages or claims is impossible, the sheer volume of such allegations on social media mandates thorough investigation, especially when some identify themselves.

*"DOCTORS VS JUDGES"* Dr Ramesh Ganesan asked a medico legal question : Judiciary should also come under CPA (Consumer Protection Act). --In the Salman Khan hit and run case, the LOWER court judge and the HIGH court judge had the SAME pieces of EVIDENCE to deal with. --They also had the SAME Indian LAW to abide by and most probably they had similar educational qualifications too. --Yet they INTERPRETED the situation in absolutely CONTRASTING manner and gave verdicts which are poles apart. --Just imagine what would have happened if a YOUNG doctor sitting in a GOVERNMENT hospital, catering to hundreds of patients in a day, had diagnosed a celebrity patient presented with gastric discomfort as GASTRITIS and another hospital had LATER on diagnosed that patient to be having a MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION. I am sure that doctor would have been screwed and jailed. --A JUDGE gets YEARS to decide on a case unlike a DOCTOR who is expected to diagnose and treat everything in the BLINK of an eye. --If a doctor making a wrong diagnosis can be prosecuted, shouldn't a judge giving wrong verdicts meet the same fate? --If hospitals can be sued for not admitting poor patients, shouldn't the courts be prosecuted for having lacs of impending cases? --Is it not appalling that a judge who takes 12 years to give a wrong verdict gets away unhurt and a doctor making one mistake is screwed by our legal system? --Doctors practice medicine which is more of an art than an exact science, whereas law is absolutely 100% manmade, yet doctors are expected to be right on all occasions. --If doctors and hospitals have a duty towards the society then does the judiciary not have a responsibility towards the socitey. --If there is so much of hue and cry in media about doctors and hospitals charging huge sums from patients, then why do we not ever hear a word on the fee that lawyers like Manu Singhvi and Jethmalani charge for their court appearances. --Government often talks about putting a capping on the fees doctors charge for various procedures but there is no talk of putting a capping on the fee that these lawyers charge to get justice for their clients. --If health is a citizen's right, then so is justice. Shall we think about taking our minds off worshipping false heroes ? *JUDICIARY SHOULD ALSO COME UNDER CPA (CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT)* Please share if you agree... *Hospitals don't have summer vacation like school children while courts and My lords enjoy it..* 😡
Sir, Kolkata used to be a city of protest. For the past several years, KOLKATA has become a city of retirees. It was quite refreshing to see people finally come out and stand up for justice. It’s about time! I hope Mamta feels the tremors under her feet.
Biggest problem is that the Indian Medical Association is busy to demolish Ramdev baba and his business entity Patanjali. They do not like to work for young doctor.
They need to do both. Demolish Ramdev's patanjali AND stand for womens safety. I'm a female resident doctor and I am with IMA, and support their stand against Patanjali. Don't mix two mutually exclusive issues.
It is beyond doubt that the TMC is not interested in taking stringent action against the Principal of the Medical College and his shadowy actins .His transfer to another college by the govt is a shameless act .But for the actions of the victim's parents , whose agony is understandable , the facts would have been suppressed .That hospital must be in a rotten state. The misdeeds of the principal must be brought to light .It obvious that he is a TMC man See how the TMC lady members of Parliament are mute . Shekhar ji, about the protection of doctors - It was not done by some patients but was an internal job. I don't think the Police would have been able to protect this unless we have a situation where all these people have fear of punishment. By the way, in the name of Protecting, if you go to SSKM hospital in an emergency, doctors will be chilling and gossiping but will not attend to your patients. However, the doctors in the emergency department of Bangur Hospital are really great and it seems like they have a shortage of staff as all of them are always attending multiple patients. So two government hospitals, different experiences.
The threat still looming large and will prevail is that the State Govt is more interested in protecting the suspects , the accused. Under the guidance and command of such a CM , the Kolkata Police has gone on overdrive to destroy evidence, to threaten & harass witness, cremated the body in a hurry, after an unprecedented event of the unfortunate victim's body being taken by the police to her parents. Usually , the body of a victim of violent death takes 8hrs or more ; otherwise 4 to 6 hours , to be HANDED OVER to he deceased's family , from the Morgue of the hospital. NEVER do the police deliver a dead body at home . Every step, every action, every response / comment of the govt and its police stink of a cover up , botching up the investigation. Even if the perpetrators are caught & finally executed, those behind the scene, those evil persons in the govt and in power will remain untouched. This type of crime will recur . The system is rotten to the core; the IAS, IPS Cadre here are as shameful as that of the CM .

Obviously it leads to premature burn out of young doctors. .. So far as women doctors, nurses are concerned, their plight is worse..
This incident took place inside hospital premises who knows the culprits involved maybe hospital management and police also that's why maybe they are trying to protect them and justice is delayed

Spot on
On bulls 🐂 eye 🎯
Many mothers themselves turn a blind eye to their son's disrespectful behavior towards girls. They see it as 'my son is getting strong to face the society' and 'my son is never wrong'. In many societies they don't act even when their son acts disrespectful towards their own daughter. If women themselves have this mindset towards their son, who is going to save their daughters?

*"DOCTORS VS JUDGES"*
Dr Ramesh Ganesan asked a medico legal question :
Judiciary should also come under CPA (Consumer Protection Act).
--A JUDGE gets YEARS to decide on a case
unlike a DOCTOR who is expected to diagnose and treat everything in the BLINK of an eye.
*JUDICIARY SHOULD ALSO COME UNDER CPA (CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT)*
Please share if you agree...

Under the guidance and
command of such a CM , the Kolkata Police has gone on overdrive to destroy evidence, to threaten & harass witness,

NEVER do the police deliver
a dead body at home .
Every step, every action, every response / comment of the govt and its police stink of a cover up , botching up the investigation.

Is West Bengal put under. President rule
It was never about who protested as much it is about WHO THE HELL is responsible? Civility should come in people and can not be policed and imposed. Increase the patroling in sensitive areas and private hospitals better beef up security. Every now and then strikes and protests happen and then in a few days die down.
Injuries to the face indicate this was a personal vendetta. The goon allocated beds and prioritised patients, which would have brought him in conflict with the doctor.
Nirbhaya 2 A wakeup call for all..Advocating about women and child safety and yet no rest room for women doctors thats the sad sad truth reality of how doctors are treated..One is not safe in its own workplace It can happen to any child, capital punishment should be given to the culprit.
I hope our judiciary system is not misused/bend by higher authority.
Was the victim didn't lock the door after other trainees?.......why others interns didn't enquired by calling after they left the victim lonely in seminar hall
@ThePrint: with all due respect to Shekhar Gupta, he looks absolutely scared while talking about Govt apathy in this case. He forgot to mention that Mamta Banerjee is the home minister, she is the health minister and she is chief minister. It was her responsibility for security of Doctors on duty and while protesting. The collage principles reports to her. The collage informed the victim’s parents that the girl had committed suicide. The principal got transferred by the health Ministry. @ShekharGupta looks scared to report all this.
I protest taking names of some so called intellectuals who are stooge of ruling party..opportunists.. and licks everything to gain prominence...their participation doesn't have any significance. They are looked down upon by public and taking their names could impact your show's reputation as well..
Sir, every parent is agitated because of lack of justice. It’s pretty clear from the high court order to handover to central agency that enough not done to bring justice to victims family.
KP has lost it's credibility from the point in time when the CM staged a dharna to protect her superstar Commissioner...since then Kolkata HC is doing all the good work
Article 356 in West Bengal
Eyes damaged - to prevent her from seeing . Throttling - to prevent her from screaming . pelvic damage - prevents her from running . Fluid from private passage will flow out in a virgin but retention of so much fluid indicates some act committed after death of the victim. The culprit must definitely have some external injuries inflicted by the victim in self defence. There is something more in this murder than appears on the surface. Does the arrested person have any external injuries.
Why the culprits are covered their face in India?
Finally I have seen Shekhar Gupta not having a proper flow to the story
Do you really have to take the name of The girl who sort of helped begin he protests?
We want justice ⚖️ #JusticeforAbhaya 🙏
Small correction. At 3.54 mins Prosenjit Chatterjee is not an MP.
West Bengal needs 356.. law and order is dysfunctional and courts are silent
Ask politicians what are they doing to safeguard women doctors: the plight of doctor's parents all over India is very very sad, they sacrifice money, comfort & their piece of heart to predators lurking in dark corners.
#Resign Mamata!!
I would have joined, had I been in India. I dont want my city to be in ruins like this. This is a shame for all of us. Its a black day for all of us.
While condemning the sexual assault and murder of a lady doctor in Kolkota, I am surprised why the social media and godhi media are keeping quite on a similar rape and murder of a Uttarkhand nurse that happened yesterday itself in Uttar Pradhesh?
Why are doctors and IMA silent on the rape and murder of this nurse? Is not nurse their support staff? Is the nurse a lesser mortal than the doctors? Are they not morally bound to fight against UP govt too where the crime was comitted?
Its time for all to prove that protests are BJP sponsored
HORROR 😨😢
Not only in kolkata but 300 places across WB state.
Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), WARANGAL , Telangana first-year postgraduate student also died WHILE ON NIGHT DUTY IN OPERATION THEATRE. College had high level gathering from 5am and her condition informed to parents very late.
Supreme Court may kindly be requested to take up this case.
Similarly in case of student NAVEEN of M G ENGINEERING COLLEGE, Nalgonda,
legs, hands, head were separated. His lever and heart etc parts were cut and posted on WhatsApp. The culprits were seen making fearless statements, no regrets shown as if they were professionals.
No investigation on organ transplant line.
