Tatiana is married to Alex Lopez who was the drummer in Suicide Silence. He now plays drums for POD. They live in the LA area. The male members live elsewhere in Europe now (maybe Poland). They left Ukraine last year when they received special permission to leave to be cultural ambassadors on behalf of the Ukrainian government. Prior to that and after the current conflict started the male members were not allowed to leave and the band missed a US tour with Slipnot. They just concluded a tour with Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin in the US. This song was primarily prompted by the conflict in 2014 which basically continued until the current invasion. Tatiana's home town Horlivka is under Russian control but only this last week has ended up within just a few miles of the front line of the war for the first time since 2014.
Tati is married to Alex Lopez, ex drummer for Suicide Silience, currently in POD (and he was Vlad's drum tech on their last US tour). Speaking of which POD are releasing a new song soon featuring Tati.
@@sherm4421 In several interviews she's said "my husband" and she wears a ring. On both of their Insta, the trip they had in Mexico was their honeymoon.
It wasn't just Crimea annexed in 2014. It was also the part of Donetsk where Jinjer is from and has remained under Russian control to this day as the "DPR".
The male members of the band were allowed to leave the Ukraine as ambassadors for their country. The other song Dave was thinking about is "Call Me a Symbol" which was done after the full invasion of the Ukraine by Russian troops.
Yes, it’s hard to nod along to Jinjer as the time signature changes all the time and even when it is consistent for a time it can be an odd meter. This song starts in 15/16 time or if you are feeling out the stresses in the drums, a bar of 8 followed by a bar of 7. Even the bossa nova section is in 7/8 which is unusual. Jinjer will often drop a beat or add a bar with a strange measure. It makes for interesting music but you have to listen hard.
And they play "across the bars" like mofos don't they! Musical phrases start in one measure and end in another, all while the meters are changing. Makes it really tricky to count and subdivide the measures. Almost every song has something like that. Try counting out the chorus of Pisces some time! I love it. It's like a musical puzzle. I'm so here for it.
This band elicits so much emotion from me and I'm completely obsessed with them. Thoroughly enjoying the journey you're both taking with them. Hopefully you get around to Pit of Consciousness at some point, specifically the live one from Kyiv 2019. Cheers to you both and loving everything you're doing 🤘😁🤘💙🇺🇦💛
The masks are characters from an Ukrainian children's fable. It goes along with the song being about their first refugee experience during the Russian invasion as seen through the eyes of a child.
This is NOT before the war. The current war from Feb 2022 is just a continuation. The Russians came into the Donbass region in 2014 and the fighting has never stopped there since. Jinjer is from the city of Donesk in that region. They say the only reason they're still a band is they had to leave as refugees to the west of the country and the only way they could eat was to play. The war Russia started is like 10 years old now. This song is talking about innocent kids wondering what the hell is going on. Hence the band in those masks from a Ukrainian fairy tale.
Jinjer was caught up in the previous invasion. They had to relocate to Kiev because of it. Tati said they were so hungry that they sometimes ate dirt to fill their stomachs. She also said that she hasn't seen her parents in years. I'm assuming because they stayed in the Russian occupied territory? They have been named official ambassadors of the Ukraine which is why they are touring nearly non stop.
Although this song is a banger it breaks my heart every time I hear it...I saw Jinjer about 18 months ago at a 500 seat club and they killed it....The entire band has talent for miles but Roman the guitarist is so underrated it's a shame...Fun music fact: Vlad the drummer is a multi instermetalist and wrote 90% of Jinjer's last album Wallflower ✌️🤘🧐
-When I first started checking the band out after hearing “Pisces”, this was one of the songs I gave a listen to. However, I couldn’t get into it. Part of it was the video was a bit distracting, which is an issue I had with a number of the songs I checked put at the time. After hearing “Bad Water” and getting them, I think it might be in my Top Ten songs by them. When I saw them at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach a couple of months ago, a section on the floor in front of me had cleared out just as they started playing, which made me move up in time to the intro.
Thank you for this reaction! Please react to Jinjer song "Ape", "Pit Of Consciousness" live in Kiev, "Words of wisdom" and of cause Who Is Gonna Be The One (Live)!!! Why you didn`t have reaction to this song??? Who Is Gonna Be The One must be in first while exploring this band!
The song is very much war seen through the eyes of a child. The flairs comming out of the jet is called chaff they are flares disigned to distract heat seeking missiles from their target.
Just an fyi for clarity...flares are for the heat seekers, but chaff is metal foil strips ejected from a canister to confuse radar guided missiles. A tool for every need.... 👍
Last night we did not sleep because russians bombed us all night long. The house is not a shelter anymore is what you feel. And the scariest thing to hear is when drone's motor stops to work. It falls. In 10 seconds you hear an explosion several hundred meters from your house. You think "not me this time". And in the morning you have to go to work, and it's not much work in the country during the war. Absolutely unreasonable and barbarian war that "civilized world" does not want to stop because of "unaccepted economic impact". Human life is not even cheap, it is just a generalized number in the everyday statistics.
When i saw them this past August, Tatiana walked out on stage and announced they were JinJer and from Ukraine. The venue went nuts and then all the fun began. Amazing talented band. I think you might be thinking of the song "when two empires collide".
Truly enjoy checking out you reactions. Here is a suggestion that I am sure that you and your listeners will enjoy. The Bee Gees "I Surrender" The Promotional Video version.
Well that puts to rest the Rumors that the OB's split up because Mike was asked to Rodie with the Rolling Stones like he was doing in the 70's and Daz was locked up for exposing himself to a blind person. Thanks for the clarification. What's really amazing is the Jinjer was almost Prescient with their music about the Russian Invasion because they've been dealing with this since 2014 when they lived in Donbas. They wrote anti war songs and then the war started. To rescue Dave, I saw them in Chicago in Jan. 2023. They did Tour the US in 2023 and Canada.
I believe the hessian animals are characters in a fable, maybe the Rabbit, the Fox and the Wolf. I think it is something to do with how the small rabbit uses cunning to get his enemies, fox and wolf, to fight each other, obvious parallels with Ukraine, Nato and Russia. To sure that is fully correct but you get the symbolism of the centre section in the video.
Always a lot of comments, but just for context, when Crimea was invaded in 2014, so were the Luhansk and Donsetsk regions of Eastern Ukraine. Jinjer is from the Donetsk region and were surrounded by the 2014 invasion and later fled to Kiev but still had family in that area in 2022 when the larger invasion took place.
@Brent_P yes, however a large part of both Donetsk and Luhansk were controlled by Russian backed separatists (annexisation was poor phrasing on my part). The main point I was making was that this song wasn't just relevant to the Crimea being invaded, but to their hometown in Donesk being part of a war zone due to Russian backed separatists.
@ryanstansfield5156 You have been gobbling up that Western propaganda, I see. The U.S and NATO backed Gov't of Ukraine were the ones waging the war against Russian speaking Eastern Ukrainians until Russia finally used it as an excuse to invade due to this puppet Ukrainian Gov't threatening to join NATO.
@@RJStansdon’t acquiesce to the propagandists. Even Putin now admits there were regular Russian forces in Donetsk in 2014. Pretending it was a ”separatist movement” is just silly
@rikardottosson1272 I'm not. 'Russian backed sepratists' is a phrase that hopefully everyone can understand as those representing Russian interest, e.g. Russian military as well as locals backed by them. But, this is UA-cam, and frankly not a place I really wanted that debate.

True and such straw goat masks they usually wear in Ukraine at the pagan celebration of Malanka on New Year's eve.
This song is about the Russian invasion in '14 when they took Crimea. It's sad how history rhymes.
