    Awesome that you're making these videos! I was first introduced to you during the birth of Sign Craft Mag. Love your cartoons. I still have both Tips & Tricks books with your cartoons in them. There is so much soul in these letters!

    On italicized script the guy who taught me, Larrey Albaugh would do them bottom up, that way the italicized slant stays consistent to the angle and the letter can be done faster.

    Just came across this awesome video! Thanks for posting your amazing work! Would you identify the brush used on each style font ?

    • @bobparsonsartist564
      @bobparsonsartist564  8 років тому +1

      the brush is equivalent to what is currently mfg by Mack. Grey Quill #5. But its an old #5 and a new #4 would probably be closer. The lettering style of the block letter is close to what John Downer hands out as his exemplars. If you join Sign Painting Support Group on FaceBook, you can search for exemplar and I think you'll find it. If not just ask, they're happy to help...

    Just love your videos!! I would like to offer a suggestion and of course you reserve the right to tell me to go to hell! :)
    It would be so helpful to those of us working at becoming good if you put in the description the Brush/s, paint and substrate so we can gauge our own work against a similar set of circumstances. I have quills in a variety of sizes but with your block letters the brush operates like a flat and has the ferrule of a quill. Just would like to know which it is. Having said all that . Thank you again for posting the amazing videos.

      Hey Mate, that’s an old #5 grey hair quill. One Shot paint thinned down quite a bit on a plywood board with flat black paint on it. Thanks for the high fives!

    There are some tricks that the artist did not use. That is because at his skill level he does not need to. There is a good scotch tape trick [ figure it out -easy] . This artist is a true Previnylite . [ scotch tape your lower and upper guidelines Os are slightly larger ]

    My real problem yet is how to get a good consistency on paint....

    • @rolynstone48
      @rolynstone48 5 років тому +5

      Consistency is a problem , ever since the once great 1-Shot paint was ruined by removing the lead , and infusing it with "hot" solvent base that literally starts to dry while using it , requiring you to keep adding mineral spirits as you attempt to get through a line of copy!

    • @GR_BackingTracks

      Yeah ^this is my struggle as a beginner learning signwriting. I bought the "Industry Standard" paint after starting with Rustoleum, and the one shot turns to plastic in the summer heat. So far my solution is to dip my brush in thinner before dipping into the 1-shot. Every stroke...

      Sulaiman Khan , the brush mfg is unknown, but it is a grey squirrel hair lettering quill and the size is a #5. Mack makes a series of these. Do a search and youll find them.
