(50pcs or 100pcs?)
Some people count 50 notes at a time and some people count 100 notes at a time.
There is no standard, and the number is different, even among banks.
Here, we recommend 50 notes to start with.
If you try to count 100pcs in vertical counting, that means you need to count the same with horizontal counting and that is not very easy.
(How to hold notes)
Now, here is how to hold the notes. Hold it in your hand vertically and wave it like a snake to make it slide a little bit.
Next, bend the notes and put it in-between your middle finger and ring finger.
The notes shouldn't fall off even if you make it up side down but at the same time, relax your fingers and try to hold it gently so you can count smoothly.

Now, when you start counting, which way to slide a note?
Slide down? or Slide sideways? either is fine but the difference is how you could "feel" and find your mistake. Please try both ways and see if you could notice when you counted 2 pcs by mistake. If you slide down 2 pcs toghether then you may feel little bit heavy, If you slide sideways then you may feel strange by its thickness. Sliding diagonally is also ok.
Anyway please bear in your mind ane be careful that sometimes the note is sticking toghether.

Now let's see how you use your ring finger.
When you hit the note by ring finger you will hear small sound like "pi-shi!"
Very nice small sounds but this is to check that you are counting only 1 piece of note.
So this means , you are double checking with sliding a note and hitting a note.
You may feel uncertain if you don't hit the note by ring finger
(smashing the note at the end)
At the end of vertical counting. people tends to make a big smash sounds by hitting last note.
It is like a ceremony of finishing counting. To make this sounds bigger, you may hang the ring finger to middle finger and release.

Agree with you, the american counting method is way better with old notes.
Yes, it's much harder to get them evenly distanced with old notes, at least for USD. In a stack of new and circulated bills, the new bills spread evenly while the circulated bills seemed to have a mind of their own.

What is the pink cream used on the side to wet the counting finger? Is this made especially for counting money? Does it have a name?
It's not a cream. It's a damp sponge used for moistening your fingertip. Wet the sponge with a little bit of water, touch it, and go on counting.
It's probably "sortkwik" a fingertip moistener! I don't know about a sponge like the person who first responded to your question, but I'm a bank teller in the United States and almost all banks use sortkwik here and it's a pink sticky gel- like substance that comes in a little plastic pot that makes it easier to count the bills. Looks exactly like what he's using here!
@@Masata240 it's probably "sortkwik" or a different brand of a gel-like substance that makes your fingertips slightly sticky so you can have just enough friction to count bills quickly!
