Well, as of right now there's only 9 episodes out and this script was written when only 6 were out. Why bother watching a review knowing full well that the anime is nowhere close to being finished if you don't want first impressions?
Falin did get eaten, they're trying to recover her body before it gets fully digested to hopefully resurrect her. While she isn't specialized in it, Marcille does have healing magic as seen in the episode with the cockatrice and her healing Laios after he got a parasite. They kinda discuss how there isn't much of a difference between healing and resurrection, with the unique properties of the dungeon making the difference. In comparison to Falin, Marcille does seem like a complementary dark mage to her gentle light mage vibe, but Marcille still has a lot of utility to her.
I blame isekai fever for giving too many titles with no stake story, patchwork universe design and blessed by "deus ex machina" mcs for making the anime only community to see Delicious in Dungeon as the same genre instead of a proper fantasy. While I like a nice breather story like that, this is not what DanMeshi is and it's starting to show it's direction. But yes to put it in simple term it's about "eating " from start to finish. To put it in a more appropriate tone it's about being alive is to consume and to desire.
I actually really love this anime. It feels fresh to me. It’s clearly inspired by dnd 5th edition. The party gives off very modern dnd player vibes. Not every story has to be a crazy overarching story where half of the characters die. It’s nice to see something being made seemingly out of love for two mediums (manga and tabletop games) rather than just Netflix wanting more money.
It's a crime that it's not really talked about or referenced much these days tbh. I might have to go back and watch it again. It's so pleasant and relaxing to watch.

So far it's been decent, as you said nothing too special, tho as a source material reader I am excited for what's to come. The manga is very popular in Japan, and without giving too many details, the story kind of fools you with its presentation, hiding a very rich plot that will be uncovered a lot more during the second cour of the anime. It's kind of like gravity falls in that sense.
I mean, I'd say that it's not QUITE impossible to replicate the recipes. A great deal of what they eat in the show is largely equivalent to real life animals.

I'm not at all familiar with DnD so I'm not sure what the relation is but the party's chemistry is really fun to watch!
