I t is sad but you have to love the music,we may never know all what went on between these two,but their music is awesome. I thank both of you for creating great 👍 😊❤music, much love to Ike and Tina Turner ❤
No, he did not make Tina a star.
He hated that she was a bright star though he had a lot to give!
Funny to see how outspoken he was in his later years when he was notoriously a shy person.
Ike Turner was not the first, last or only musician to ever physically assault a woman whether she be his wife, girlfriend, lover or even just a groupie, but he seems to be one of the only ones that almost nobody ever forgave or looked at aside from his transgression. James Brown, Miles Davis, Jackie Wilson, David Ruffin, Al Green, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, and many others all got a pass and whenever their names are mentioned everybody talks about their greatness. Maybe because they didn't have biased books, musicals, documentaries, or a movie portraying them in the worst light. I've read Tina's book and Ike's book, the truth must be somewhere in between. Despite his faults, I still enjoy Ike's contributions to music.
I think Tina's success put her front and center in the spot light, and everyone just had to know. I think when people considered her as washed up and a has been, there probably would not have been any interest.
@@true1evaniqueShe was considered a washed up has been. David Bowie pulled some strings to get her a new record deal and she took off. Without the backstory, she would've been a flash in the pan, but we invested in the character.
"James Brown, Miles Davis, Jackie Wilson, David Ruffin, Al Green, Ringo Starr, John Lennon" Ike can't hold a candle to any of those people.
@@jakephillips4453 All frontmen, and all that came along later. Ringo Starr couldn't even play. James Brown is the only person comparable, but different genres and Ike wasn't a front man. Similarly talented they could play any instrument they touched, both controlling with that same work ethic & expectations. Ike still more influential but working in the background.
@skepchica Not just front men, lol. They actually wrote hit records. While Ike was relegated to doing covers. Ike more influential than James Brown? Hmm. Despite James Brown influencing the entire genre of Hip Hop but whatever.
A man who never admitted what he did isn't a changed man. Sad
He actually did admit to it...he literally said he slapped her for looking sad...the interview is everywhere....he just don't think it was abuse.
He was a vilant man to Tina for years. How she survived was a miracle 😢
violent
As well thrived too. 🕊️
She survived because it didn’t happen the way it was portrayed in that movie. Their kids even said that movie was 70% inaccurate
@@kevinshell8392 You’re right, it didn’t happen the way it was portrayed in the movie, it was much worse. Ike beat that woman with shoe stretchers, wire hangers, shoes, etc., and then expected her to be in the mood to have sex afterwards.
@@solomonpayne7179 ….. You say that because you were there right? You witnessed everything you just said right. You were there, you saw it personally, you witnessed him doing these things you said in your post firsthand and can testify in court correct. I’m speaking from a position coming from people knowing of the situation and they all say that Tina was a serious piece of work and not in a good way. She hit him also. And they both admitted that the movie changed a lot. The rape never happened and neither did eat the cake
I believe her because scorpio men can beat you and they like drugs. He admits to the drugs and women. Possibly he forgot the beatings since he was high out of his mind.
Oh he remembered. He admitted in another interview that he used to smack her for looking sad.
You should read his book- he remembers beating her with wire hangers punching her choking her etc. Smh
@@kamariatoure42 😯😢
Woah....don't put this out on us Scorpios. I don't abuse women!
I’m a Scorpio and never put my hands on anyone or did drugs. So your statement is not only one sided it’s also ignorant.
Interesting - yet also sad, he relapsed into drug use and died from an overdose. Made good music, though
Hey Gaby! Ike did seem good here...
He did, and won a Grammy in 2007 as a solo. He found redemption as a music artist before he passed.
And then died in 2007.. rip ike x tina
@@ClevelandLiveMusic true, that was just after his prison term. It was later he returned to drugs. Pressures if his kind of life must be enormous. No judgement intended, purely observation. Ultimately people make their own decisions for their journey
That was a nice interview.
I think he pretty much shared what she said. He admitted in another interview to being very controlling. She never loved him I don't think. But was manipulated into having a relationship with him. She was 17 when she met him and he about 26. I think they were growing apart musically too. Look at the way she does Proud Mary today. She is more musically controlled on how she wants it to sound. He use to work her hard. But he did win a Grammy later in life.
An abuser through and through
Thank you for this…I always said he made tina a star, tina gave him 16 years & she was ready to go.
Chuck Berry and Little Richard the architects of Rock N Roll. Elvis Presley the king. Ike Turner I would say was the Founder of Rock N Roll, he wrote classic songs and founded the best duo group in history. Rest in peace king 👑
Ike Turner was the King, we just don't want to talk about that.
Elvis is not the king of Rock-N-Roll. Blacks invented Rock. Elvis is your king not ours. He stole everything from black artists that he studied.
Ike remained close to Tina's sister Alline and her mother who defended him. Alline said Ike was jovial in his later years and remorseful about his past. He made plenty of mistakes but he did time for the only crime he was convicted of which was drugs. Ike admittedly was not a good husband to Tina but she wasn't completely honest about their relationship. Many people have said Tina was outspoken and violent at times. They had fights but it wasn't one-sided as it's always portrayed. Tina was vindictive and she died still thinking about Ike. Maybe they'll both finally get some closure in the afterlife.
Tina has always said Ike was good to her in the beginning
She was ok with that as he was a good provider and that’s how life was at that time specially with their background. She left because she got fed up of all the nonsense and she was tired of this life as everyone else. She needed a new direction that’s why she d never looked back. Poor Ike at the end he is the one who lost the most.
@@ihanaa9803Ike didn't lose the most. All of Ikes' kids attended his funeral including Tinas' son, Craig, and they all spoke fondly of their dad
Except Ike himself never mentioned anything about Tina being as violent as he was. He mentioned none of that his book. Let's not gloss over his "mistakes". His eldest son that he took out of school to go work in his drug filled studio at 13, is now a crack addict at 64. Yeah great guy Ike was.
@jakephillips4453 No, but she mentioned it in her first book. He did say Tina was trying to be what she thought he wanted. I'm not glossing over anything. He said he wasn't a good father or husband. He actually said he took Tina and the kids for granted.
Wow, I can’t believe the comment section is full of positive things to say about this woman beater. SMH
Tina has even said positive things about him. He was very good to her in the beginning. Is it right,Tina slept with another's woman's husband? Is it right that she wasn't a very good mother. She and Ike were horrible parents but we still gave her a pass. Why do you think that is?
They were both thinking on their career that’s all. When it started to not work or not go as far they wanted this all got messed up. Time to move away.
He did his time. Is he beating her anymore. It’s crazy people that’s not involved or wasn’t there have so much to say about somebody you don’t even know personally. At least he man enough to admit his wrong a lot of people today can’t even take accountability of they actions especially women. She could have been left Ike but didn’t until later on.
Exactly. This world is delusional. F abusers.
IKR
She did pretended that their couple was for appearance so what’s love got to do with it?!
A real one
It's sad to see Ike , doing the things that he had did to his ex wife Tina Turner he was so high on drugs it just mess his mind up terribly. He was a great bass singer. There is no one can bass like him for sure 😢 .
That film lied on Ike smh.
Oh NO it did not. Tina wrote in her book “I, Tina” that Ike constantly beat her with shoe stretchers, wire hangers, shoes, belts, and even poured hot coffee on her once.
This was a very nice clip! He still loved Tina. He said his dream is to be on stage with her again. It is so disturbing that she never ever talked to him again. I almost teared up when Ike said he still slipped her in through the back door of the club when she was too young. My close friends used to do the same for me. They had sooo much history together! RIP Ike and Tina 💔
She was so hurt at how the drug and alcohol changed him it made him abusive she didnt want to live like that she admitted it was a good marriage at first til the drugs he died of a drug overdose and I believe she did still love him but she had too be on for a better life and that she did
Are you serious?! Who would want to go back working with someone that could have killed you ?!
@@jacquelineperry8515 I believe she still loved him too, but she did not trust herself around him as he still had some kind of control over her!
@@kamariatoure42 she wanted out because of the drugs and abuse.she said when he wasn’t doing either he was nice he died of cocaine overdose
Yeah, they were like sister and brother. She said it and he said it.
This interview made me sad. It would have been epic if Ike had opened up for Tina and they ended the show with their old songs with Proud Mary closing it out. Man that would have been nice.
He should have never beat her maybe that could have happened
@@KylieKDixon5 They fought each other. Tina said on Oprah that the movie was inaccurate. She and Ike were friends and she stayed because she was loyal to him. They paid Ike 45,000 dollars in 1988 giving him the impression that they would portray him in his Ike and Tina revues days. He couldn't even sue because he had signed his rights away. He couldn't believe they painted him out to be a monster especially with things such as the eat the cake, rape scene that didn't happen in real life.
Tina's fans would have booed him off the stage.🤣
@@jakephillips4453 I am a huge fan and I wouldn't have. That movie and all of its inaccuracies and made up drama really painted him out to be a monster instead of the musical genius that he is. Most of the stuff in the movie was exaggerated or made up. It was loosely based on Tina's biography. The movie propelled her career exponentially and did the opposite for Ike and even caused his relapse and drug overdosed death.
@nicim3730 Sorry, he was a monster. He hit the mother of his child, and he basically flat out admitted to doing that on camera.🤷🏾 why would we pay to see him on stage at a Tina concert? Especially since he was never needed there anyway. His demise was his own fault.
Could someone let me know the name of the man interviewing Ike.
Roy Firestone.
@@DrDavis-cd5yj Thank You, very much.
Interviewer gave Ike a fair shake, for once.
In my opinion, Ike was nothing, had nothing. Queen Tina WAS everything & HAD everything -- class, talent. beauty & truly an icon / legend! Any man who beats his partner, girlfriend, wife isn't worth giving a damn about -- EVER.
My sister,it sounds like that is coming from a place of anger and personal feelings, don’t you know if it wasn’t for Ike ,Tina probably would’ve been able to tell her musical story, both of them were gifted artists in their own right. There is two sides of the story and then there is the Truth 💔
Ike was a knobhead, but an extremely talented guitarist. Excellent technique.
Amen. Ike is lower than a dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
