    So obviously, Ron has spent more effort on room treatment and speaker placement in his dedicated audio room than what most of us have done in our living rooms that also have to function for things other than just listening to music. I would be interested in hearing the difference room correction makes in a room that requires more correction.

    That’s great coverage of both new amps! Really happy you did this. I still think the 2200 amp is my flavour, but these are an amazing choice for someone needing the top end smoothed a bit. The price to value of the 1000 is absolutely insane, that’s really hard to beat

    Great review-would there be an advantage to doing the YPAO test in a more extreme scenario, where the speakers are not already in an optimal position? I just wonder the what the result would be in a less ideal environment like a living room as opposed to a listening room. I would imagine that Yamaha puts this feature in for the less fortunate spaces among us. Not trying to give you more work though, haha-I enjoy your channel!

    The N1000A falls in the same category as the NAD C700. The C700 does not have room correction (DIRAC) like its bigger brother, but that all-in one is more expensive. I wonder how the N1000A and the C-700 would compare in what really matters, sound quality. Great video, as always!

    Excellent review. Great Yamaha shootout. I could swear that R-N 1000 has a better stereo image. And yes, the sound difference isn't that big between 2 of them ( like the price is ). The sound without YPAO is much better to me. All of this I've been listening thru my fantastic end game Elac UB 52s, wich I get after watching your review test ( thank you for that ). And one tip for Yamaha owners: pair it with Wireworld cables, it improves the sound significantly.

    Very good and detailed video... Thank you!! OK, besides the meters and the VERY high quality of build/materials used on the RN-2000A, is the additional $2000 plus over the RN-1000A in your opinion worth it? Yes, I like good sounding audio equipment, but being retired, my dollars are limited. I am hoping to replace my current "Mid-Fi" Yamaha A-S801 amp. My biggest grip about the A-S801 is the phono section which basically sucks IMHO. I really like that both the RN-1000A and RN-2000A have an HDMI connection. On a side note, the only gripe I have with either of these receivers is that they do not have a processor loop or a tape monitor/record out function. Other than that, they are perfect! I know that YPAO act pretty much as an EQ, but having a vinyl collection from the 1970s and 1980s, with some records not recorded perfectly, but I feel that a "lightly" used DBX 3 band range expander could help out these LPs. Other than that, Yamaha has hit another home run with these modern receivers, which isn't surprising, and I have been a Yamaha Fanboy since 1987 after buying their RX-1100 receiver!!

    Mainstream consumer brands can offer quality products at reasonable prices by sharing tech and parts across an array of product lines. The high end brands cannot do that. The issue is that in many instances the mainstream brands do not like playing in the big boy water because the high end community can be a bit snobby. I actually prefer separates that feature a modular design which keeps costs down when it's time to upgrade to the latest tech. But, it is good to see better quality products from the mainstream brands like Yamaha, Technics etc

    I am a Yamaha kind of guy. Yamaha have a knack of hitting the performance/price sweetspot and sound great. This new device looks awesome. However where the N series devices fall down is Yamaha's software environment, Music cast. Its awful.
    So much so that when NAD released the M10 admittedly at a different price point, I dived in. Their BluOS environment is a way better experience and with DIRAC there was no going back. The sound was a step up as well, but it was really bought to access all the music. I still have a Yamaha N series system in my office, but its just driven from Spotify. Sounds awesome but its hard work to access all the music compared to BluOS.
    Sorry Yamaha, until you sort out Music cast I'm afraid you've lost me.

    Ron, the real comparison on both sound quality and value is to Review how a Yamaha AS-801, paired with something like an EverSolo Media Player compares. The Yamaha AS801 can be had for 799$, and as far as sound quality I doubt the NS line is as good. It’s an Amp that I own and is one of probably ten pieces of Yamaha Home sound gear I e owned! The AS801 in pure direct mode on all material is one of the best sounding Amplifiers under 3 grand. With all

    Well, I can hear the extension of certain frequencies and the sound stage widening and thats just in my phone. But I would imagine it would indeed have a greater response in my room than in Ron's treated room, but that said its still a noticable improvement. And while I appreciate that Yamaha has kept their promise in delivering Quality Engineering and bring the Upper Level Version to the the "Blue Collar" version... I think that's 😂 questionable as to Blue Collar as I was and my 70's System would today be roughly about $7k-8k. And $1800 IMO is a stretch unless it has say Amp / Preamp output like my then unit a CA-800. And this isn't to say its a Bad Unit or not worthy of its $ or not attractive in its ability. l'd still like then if it contains Amp / Preamp output add an Eq. I have great appreciation for them both. My only quibble beyond the $ is I realized then as now the lack of warmth in the Mids or Yamaha sound.

  • @techsamurai11

    I noticed you had a slight downward slope in the reference and YPAO tried to straighten the curve and provide a flat response. I have a Denon 4800h and Audyssey is doing the same thing and guitars and voices just sound so different than my Marantz that has the old Audyssey - I can listen to it but once I play the same songs on the Marantz, I feel like I need to run out and buy a few more guitars. Clearly, the Marantz sound is not straight but it sounds so alive compared to the Denon 4800h.
    Is a flat curve a good thing? Are all frequencies created equal? I was looking at a chart and 100hz-1000hz is where all the fundamentals for vocals and instruments are. While I appreciate the egalitarian, dare I say, Marxist views of new versions of Audyssey, my ears are definitely happier with real sounding guitars and voices that don't all sound the same.
    I'd gladly try a downward slope with emphasis on the 100-1000hz range or even another slope and they are a pain to create for mere mortals.
    Which brings us to the following question but before I head into that - thank you so much for showing the treble and bass effects and measuring them. It was very enlightening.
    Why aren't there midrange controls? My dad's Sansui 8080db had them and given the importance of the midrange, they all should have them.

    A really good Comparison and the 1000 is a very interesting offer. Are there more stereo amplifiers from different brands with build in room correction? A difference between YPAO on and off is barely audible and with out the room not very usefull. 🙂 But the difference between the 1000 and the 2000 is audible very well.The character of sound is similar but the stereo separation of the 2000 is much wider. If this is really in the recording or if there are other reasons for this difference I can´t say.

    I recently upgraded to this amp from an audiolab 6000a and thought I’d give my early thoughts, so,
    my main reason for upgrading was 2 reasons - power and also, tone controls ok 3 and streaming other than Bluetooth.
    Ron I agree, the phono stage isn’t great, the phono stage in my 6000a was better and louder, however as I intend to get a manii 2 this isn’t a deal breaker as external is mostly always better regardless.
    Tone controls, this is a big plus for me, comparing it to a audiolab product I feel the ‘air’ In the soundstage probably isn’t quite as open and large, however there is a lot more heft to the overall tone of the music compared to the audiolab, which to me is the toss up id rather have, functionality is great on the amp as you said for the money, this has all the features, one feature I specifically love is that you can turn up the dynamic range between sources, so it used to really bug me that when I switched to the tv from records etc it was vastly more quiet, however with this amp it doesn’t matter as you can match the sound level when swapping sources! Yet to try ypao but so far I’m very happy with the amp, need to get through the 140 page instructions still! But it’s great to hear there’s not that much a difference from the 2000a as that was a thought I had! only issue I had that Yamaha need to look at is the power cord that came with mine was very loose, so I stuck with my audiolab one.

      @@KEF1987 it was definitely a worthy upgrade, I suppose it all depends what you want to upgrade for, for me features like tone controls, loudness control etc, all these are big things I wanted and missed from my audiolab, audiolab is still a fantastic product and a brand, but it’s hard to not see value for money with the Yamaha, I would go back to audiolab maybe in the future if they were ever to have features I wanted. But I do think it was a worthy upgrade, I had a toss up between this and the new technics but the wattage on that really worried me, but I would recommend finding the manual online because that explains all the features more than even their website explains.

      Amps are not measured the same way. Its left to the manufacturers, and they all do it differently. The only way to get reliable data wound be to measure those 2 amps exactly the same way. Then, of course, there's all the stuff we can't measure, so the only way to know for sure is to listen to them.

In fact, I preferred YPAO on in many cases with the R-N2000A . My guess is the R-N1000A is just using a cheaper DAC. Anyway, I thought the R-N1000A sounded excellent otherwise.

    This is pretty cool and I own a Yamaha HT receiver but I'm struggling to see how this is $1400 better than the Marantz NV1200. Its input/outputs are essentially identical. Both can be turned into pre-amps and you can easily bypass the DAC and phono stage. But for $412 for the NV1200, I could get far better external phono stage and DAC and still come in a lot less. Am I missing something? I can see an increase in cost due to the power output but not 3 times as much cost.

    • @Audiorevue
      @Audiorevue 8 місяців тому +1

      Well here's what is different, build quality for one. Last summer music direct was running a special on marantz products and I thought it would be pretty cool to have the NR 1200 so I bought one. The first one I got the left speaker outputs would not work at all, and the second one I got would not connect to the internet at all, the third one I got worked however for whatever reason randomly The sound coming out of the speakers would be really tinny and garbled.
      So yeah the marantz might be cheaper but I'd rather have the Yamaha.

I got a bad Pioneer Elite AVR once. Overall, looking at the reviews on multiple platforms, I don't see a systemic problem with the NR1200. Both units have the same warranty. If this unit was just twice as much as the Marantz I could see it but $1800 is tipping into the area of used audiophile-level stuff.

      @AT-wl9yq 8 місяців тому +3

      If you buy going by specs, its almost a guaranteed fail. To start with, manufacturers don't have to adhere to any guidelines with regards to measuring audio equipment. Each company does it however they see fit. That means if you take 2 amps, from 2 different manufacturers, with the same or very similar specs, and measure them both the same way, they will different. How much different needs to be determined on a case by case basis.
      What's even more important is we can't measure everything. Anyone who says otherwise is either lying, or they have no idea what they're talking about. For me personally, I judge audio equipment based heavily on how it reproduces the natural timbre of instruments and vocals. There's no way to measure something like that. Maybe in the future, but right now, we're not even close. Its like food. If you list the specs on a McDonalds hamburger and compared it to the competitions hamburgers with the same specs, there can be huge differences in how they taste. We can't measure taste.
      Reviews and specs are supposed to be used as aids. They help you make the right choice, but they should never be used to buy components without listening to them first. The only way to fairly judge a piece of audio equipment is to use it in its intended application. You're the only one who has to listen to it. Is it a pain in the ass to do it this way? Absolutely. But you wouldn't buy a car without test driving it first, or buy clothes without trying them. It's just something you have to do.

    I really like Yamaha equipment, but for some reason never end up with it. lol. Maybe that will change with this receiver/amplifier. But I must say, there is alot of "bling" on A/V Receivers, or make it all home stereo receivers today. And I hate to tell ya guys, that "bling" is not the best Tech for your listening enjoyment. Perfect Ex. HDMI Arc. Ha, let's go backwards 15-20 years! HDMI is NOT the best audio connection, but is pretty good for video, But this HDMI Arc really just means you can use one remote to control your flat screen and stereo etc. Which is meaningless, because you're gonna lose that remote in the first 6 months you get it! lol. When talking Receivers think about its audio performance, and as long as it has Toslink/Fiber optic capability the only reason for HDMI is for your video connection. You can ONLY get true 5.1 surround sound (or better) with fiber optics connectivity. The audio companies (Toshiba in this case) had an "Ooops" moment, and gave us "The Best" audio connectivity, ever. And nothing will ever beat it either. Especially HDMI when it comes to audio fidelity! Which is really going backwards Tech wise if you use it for your audio connection. That's why I say, watch out for Snake Oil salesmen in the Audio world of "new" components. If it doesn't enhance your listening experience, then it doesn't have any business being a part of audio equipment if you ask me. Do you think all the of the "lost" remotes end up in the same place as all of the "lost" left socks in the world that somehow make it to your washer, but never out of the dryer? lol.

    You didn’t specify your source (digital/phono), Ron. Digital sources are all guilty of soundstage flatness to some degree. My bet is that a primo phono preamp played through this would yield good results. The amp designs are both “sound”, though neither is an A-S2200.
    Edit: I just remembered that there is a strong chance that all inputs in both of these are digitized. That is something I’d like to see verified. If so, even the world’s “best” phono preamp might come across as flat sounding on them. At any rate, I like the Yamaha sound. I do not prefer detail as it is ruthless on poor recordings. I couple mine with an equally “warm” pair of Buchardt speakers and am loving it.
