      Same here, Vince beating Ken happened in early June 1999. I'll fill you in on what happened after, as I followed & taped the B-shows and C-Shows. After it, Ken Shamrock got demoted WWF Heat losing to Billy Gunn and having "gaga matches" with no finish, and then in August 1999 demoted to WWF Shotgun just beating Chaz and Albert. He rarely appeared on Raw during this time, and if he did, he lost. Jobber to the stars situation, just like Vader before, where they only won on the C-Show (WWF Shotgun) against lower-card guys & local jobbers. It was clear to me that Ken had heat with someone. And then in September 1999, he got buried to Jericho after Smackdown debuted and quietly disappeared from TV.

    Ken's push diminished by early 1999. Holding the tag titles with Boss Man was a depush (they only held them for a few weeks), he was cleanly pinned by The Undertaker in April, and slid further down the card, doing nothing of consequence, thus I would have asked for my release too, if I'd been in his position, with his brand name.

    Ken has a better mind for the business than most people give him credit for. His UFC background worked both for and against him at the time, he was probably viewed as an outsider and that's why they never put the strap on him. I can detect some pain in his voice over what happened to Owen

    I remember Shamrock was starting to be pushed down to the C shows like Shotgun Saturday night in the summer of 1999 but at the same time he was winning pay per view matches. Then he was put in feud with Chris Jericho who was also up and down first feuding with the rock and then being pair with Howard Finckel. I think since Russo was on his way out the writers were scrambling to find out where Russo was going with all these story lines.

      @albalog2449 Рік тому

      That's a very good point, I remember the exact same thing, but I completely forgot Shamrock beat Steve Blackman at SummerSlam and Fully Loaded. I don't think I ever saw those PPV shows looking back. And that time in August and September 1999 was very hectic. It was clear Russo was on his way out and he "phoned it in", but it was also the writers scrambling for JR's booking as well. This was because this was that was when Dr. Death was supposed to get his push against Austin, and in the long-term that obviously didn't go as expected. The idea was to repair Dr. Death's Brawl For All loss with a strong babyface hardcore title run starting in April (Backlash), Dr. Death turning heel on JR in August (sitting him in a chair like HHH did), and getting Stone Cold involved heading into the debut episode of Smackdown. This IICR was a big reason why British Bulldog got hired with a random push.

    • @dariog36th
      @dariog36th Рік тому +1

      @@albalog2449 Russo was definitely phoning it in. They pushed D’Lo making him the first ever wrestler to hold the European and Intercontinental Champion to hold both belts simultaneously. Then he loses both belts to Jeff Jarrett who is going to leave the following month and he just hands over the European championship to Mark Henry, who was D’Lo’s tag team partner. Then Billy Gunn is supposed to get the push for the IC Belt since he won the KOTR but they give the push to Chyna instead. Chris Jericho starts off hot feuding with the Rock, then they scratch that, they give him Howard Finckel and Mr. Hughes to feud with Shamrock who was supposed to be feuding with Steve Blackman. Mick Foley wins the triple threat match at summer slam only to lose the title the night after. 1999 started off as the hottest year in wrestling but Russo managed to screw that summer up big time.

    • @dariog36th
      @dariog36th Рік тому +1

      @@SonnyBubba his booking was all over the place. His biggest blunder towards the end was keeping Jarrett as the IC champ even though he was going to leave. And then they had to pay him $250k to drop the belt. I have know idea how Vince McMahon didn’t see that coming and why he allowed Russo to do that. I honestly think Russo was sabotaging it on purpose.

    • @albalog2449
      @albalog2449 Рік тому

      @@dariog36th Yeah, the summer of 1999 was when I was slowly but surely starting to lose faith in the WWF. I liked pretty much everything from 1998 and early 1999 though, especially with the crazy midcard guys (when the show looked just like the "WWF Attitude" video game). I heard rumors in the summer of 1999 that Russo and Ferrara were both burned-out with everything and simply didn't care by that point, as well as Russo being depressed because he missed his family and also depressed over the Owen Hart thing. That's at least what I recall at the time. I got even more alienated with the "Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley" angle, and I quit watching WWF in February 2000 (maybe early March?) and I switched over to AJPW (All Japan) when I got the January 2000 tape with Dr. Death's AJPW return. My mind was made up. For me, I'd rather watch Dr. Death, Bart Gunn, Vader and Stan Hansen all on the same roster than that weird HHH-Stephanie gaga, with storylines changing so often every week & just getting goofier, and the all midcarders I liked (D'Lo Brown, Tiger Ali Singh, Headbangers, Val Venis, Taka Michinoku, etc.) being a complete afterthought after HHH and Stephanie got married. I just had enough of it all with the WWF in February 2000 after very gradually being burned-out over a 6 month period.

    Same old vince. If you were very popular before joining WWF/WWE, he was gonna book you to look weak against their own grown talent. It don't matter if you came from UFC, New Japan, ECW or in many cases even WCW, you were going to lose to the Rock, Austin, Undertaker, Triple H, Kurt Angle constantly. They tried to do the same to Dan Severn also. Asked him to write 666 on his forehead and he left the company immediately. Back then they had so much talent to choose from, now look at them now....same champion for over a year because they're struggling to book anyone else on that same level.

    • @albalog2449

      Chris Benoit is the only guy I can think of that Vince McMahon personally liked from another company, pushing him as a "WWE guy". They seldom mentioned Benoit's WCW and New Japan career, making you think he never had a career before January 2000 (his WWE debut). Dr. Death is another one McMahon and JR liked from All Japan, where in his contract he had a 6-month feud with Austin, but ultimately his hamstring injury happened. During that that 6 months, Dr. Death might have a couple month WWE title reign, but I'm 100% sure Austin would win as usual in the end (WWE is better than All Japan), with Dr. Death being an upper-midcard afterwards. Or maybe a strong tag-team with young guys like Batista/Randy Orton or something, where the "chosen WWE guys" could learn from a veteran.

Didn't Bret want to give up the belt to Austin or taker as Shawn said he wouldn't give it up to Bret if the roles were reversed! So Vince should of respected Bret enough to grant him taker or Austin. But Shawn was known to get mad and probably make it difficult for Vince to decide. So guess he had to protect his future investment being Shawn. Ironic Shawn got injured a few months later and was out for five years. Best solution triple threat match at survivor series Bret Shawn and taker classic match
