    Using the Bluetooth App is the best way of setting up this watch. The fact that you can manually set most of the functions is a design win, in my opinion. Tough solar would be useful but this watch is terrific for the sporting purposes that it was intended for.

    This is one of the rare reviews that I remembered watching and now, months later when trying to decide on which g-shock to buy, I just searched for and watched again to inform that decision because I knew you'd highlighted some important things that no other reviewer has. Thanks for a genuinely useful video. Like and subscribe earned.

    I recently purchased the GBX. Coming from Suunto, Polar, and Garmin watches. Not having to charge the watch is a HUGE plus and still be able to track a run/steps. I dont think it’s trying to compete with the typical smart watches of the day and I would think users who buy this are not looking for it to. I’m able to see sunset/sunrise and time for EST and Zulu at the click of a button. Works for me.

    You didn't even review the main function of the G-Lide series: The tide function! Living in Los Angeles, some years I have never missed a weekend on the beach, and the tide graph is amazing. Have had them for over a decade...but I'd need to keep 3 or 4 set up for different beaches I frequented. Now with the GBX 100 I don't have to.

    • @ComputerStuff
      @ComputerStuff  2 роки тому

      I stick to my guns. It may do the Tide function well, but it does a lot of other things sub par. That means it is not a great product for the masses. Though I respect that some people get good use out of it. Glad you're liking your GBX, though.

    Clearly you have completely missed the point of this watch. You don't get this watch because it looks good.
    This watch is designed for surfers not collectors. Does the moon, tide and daylight information work correctly. It really matters. Another very valid point is I'm 63 years old I want a clear legible screen because my eyesight isnt as good as it was. These are far more important things than how long you have to wait to exit a screen. Learn some patience. As for a stopwatch how many other casio watches have stop watches. It's not that important. And trust me if a surfer is watching the seconds in a heat he's probably already lost. So if your not a surfer buy a watch that works more efficiently. If it doesn't work accurately as a tide moon daylight watch then it's as useful as a chocolate fireguard. Who cares about the stopwatch or minor niggles.
    So can you answer the question does it work accurately for purpose.

    I'm thinking of getting this watch. The only function (other than time) that I would use is the stopwatch for my gym workouts. I don't even have any desire to use the Move app. Just time and stopwatch. Do you think it would be a good purchase for that purpose and just for the gym? I really like the looks, particularly the square design, stainless steel "bezel", and white strap. Thanks for the honest review!

    • @ComputerStuff
      @ComputerStuff  3 роки тому +1

      I love the looks of the watch, too. But no I dont think its good for Gym use. The countdown timer is clumsy to operate, thus making it annoying for HIIT use. The stopwatch is not as intricate as on the standard square G Shocks. Is it a bad watch? By no means, and could you use it at the gym with little to no issue? Sure! But you're better off getting the standard Casio square g shock than you are this one.

    • @88jwuebben
      @88jwuebben 3 роки тому

      @@ComputerStuff Great feedback, thanks. I think you're right -- even a $50 G-Shock will do just as well at the gym as this one, and probably with fewer glitches. Case in point, I have a $45 G-Shock I bought 10 years ago that still runs great (on its first battery, no less), while the G-Shock GBD100 I bought last year already crapped out on me (blank screen). The GBD100 is basically the same watch as this one, minus the wave/surfing features.

    if you want a smart watch - pay 20 bucks, get a mi band. charge it every 2 weeks. i do agree this is a failure - if you didn't have a smartphone already. but you do. this is a watch and an extension device, it extends your capabilities, nothing more. timers are supposed to be used for workout, this is a fitness accessory. i don't get your take on this, trying to make this wanting to be something else than it wants to be... thanks for the different and in-depth look on it tho!

From visibility (hour and minute hands same color as face dial-GST B400), day-of-the-week dials so small you need to really squint (MTG B1000-1A), steel buckles that cannot hold the straps properly (MTG B1000-1A) and even the G-Shock Connected app has usability and visibility issues (layers of menu, grey color fonts)

    But the one thing that bothers me the most (and is also the reason a long press doesn't work) is that the buttons solely operate when you let go of them and not when you actually press them. Why should Casio get a pass for half-assing the design on this watch? If its durability and pedigree you're after - go for a classic square (which I'm wearing as I type). It looks great. It has some very cool display screens. The user interface, however, is clumsy. 2 outta 3 ain't bad. I don't wear gshocks anymore. Yes, they are bullet proof and last forever, but they start looking ratty real qick. The resin scuffs and nicks easily. And resin rot is a very real issue. I had a square that saw hardly any use and at the 5 year mark the band just started to disintegrate. Much prefer stainless steel.

    • @ComputerStuff
      @ComputerStuff  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah it's a shame. I wanted to love this watch so bad but just can't for the reasons you listed. I ended up settling on a metal square that despite not being "smart" is absolutely stunning to look at and well... TELLS THE TIME!

      This G-Shock doesn't feature a resin band. It's made out of "reclaimed material" which is a neoprene composite. It's significantly softer and more pliable than resin.

    • @chronicawareness9986

      I heard that if you don't have the resin band moving it can rot. So you're going to have to like wiggle it around every now and then to keep it good.

      @@carlomagno5151 Carlo, not sure where or why I upset you with my comment. I think the consensus is that this channel provides a pretty straight forward view on things. Casio has already released a newer version of this watch (which I have yet to try) - why would they waste their time in updating the software on this model? It's _unlikely_. Honesty at last! I'm so sick of channels that basically are singing for their dinner and sitting on the fence.. People don't have money to burn and there's a responsibility with reviewing thank you.... Personally I find this was a waste of money, it's intentionally the dumb blonde of the squares for marketing reasons they will up the spec series by series along with the price.. Only good thing is the large time display's visibility, the sun and moon, the style..the large buttons, Apart from that it's mass production junk of course its tough but its not worth the money to me.. I take it surfers aren't too bright then according to this gshock model?... I also think they should allow date configuration..... I also agree 💯 with your review

    I liked that you criticized the overflow of functions that are on the verge of just being bells and whistles. But I don't think you get this watch because it looks cool. I am thinking of getting this watch because having my Fenix 5X on my wrist all day is getting tiring after a year and I don't need all of it functions all day every day. I do check the sunset and sunrise times on my Garmin, and also tide for boating and surfing. I think this watch fills that gap. A simpler active watch lacking a lot of the features but also being lighter and cheaper. I am not getting rid of the Garmin of course, for when I am actually going on runs and rides.

    Genuine doubt: why is the apple watch the standard as a step counter?

    • @ComputerStuff
      @ComputerStuff  3 роки тому

      Apple has mastered the metrics on the Apple Watch from heart rate monitor to step counter. If you want the most accurate wrist based anything, its probably from Apple. And this is coming from someone who doesn't care much for the Apple Watch.

    •  3 роки тому

      @@ComputerStuff I didn't know how apple wrist bands worked. I don't have one nor I like them. But your answer clears that small bit of the world that I ignored, so thanks. Note: I do have the gbx 1000 and I use the step counter a lot, having noticed myself the possible inaccuracy. I take into consideration that margin

    • @88jwuebben
      @88jwuebben 3 роки тому

      I had essentially the same step counter as this watch in the G-Shock GBD100, and I agree with @Computer Stuff that it's not very accurate. If you're just on a continuous walk, it's fine and probably right in step with the Apple Watch. But where I found it wildly inaccurate in counting steps is just in every day walking around the house. I think it counts a lot of wrist movements when you're standing in place. I ended up tweaking my daily step goal when wearing this watch to 20,000 -- felt like that got to me 10,000-12,000 actual steps, but I could be way off with that.

    IMO, it is clear that this is just a fashion good looking watch. The other "design-flaw" fancy function is there to justify it to be charged more than $150. I do not even think it is even served as a sport watch at all or maybe just a very casual non-serious sport watch.

  • @Sylkis89
    @Sylkis89 Рік тому

    I wish they gave up on the stopwatch, step counters and other fitness nonsense or surfing stuff and instead fleshed out the notifications to make them more useful and add a proper calendar functionality. I want a smartwatch without all the fitness tracking (seriously, if I wanted a fitness tracker I wouldn't bother with the inaccuracies of smartwatches and just get a smart ring) and which will not require me to regularly charge it, but I want the battery to last like in just regular watches. So far this one is the closest thing I could find on the market to what I want and when it comes to the software side of your complaints it seems that for me I would be going in the opposite direction with what I want from it...
