I upgraded from a breville smart grinder pro to this. The first shot I pulled on this was pure revelation. I’ve had it a couple months now. Retention is never more than 0.2. Mostly 0.1. Though not uncommon to get my whole dose back out. This is one purchase that comes with no regrets for me. I solidly agree with your thoughts on cord placement.
As a new owner of the younger brother I agree with all in this video.. though the younger brother has the cord on the back.. not sure why they changed that for this .. every fault this grinder had overseas was corrected before released on the aus market . Brilliant stuff
Interesting re: the cord placement... The only thing that makes sense to me is so the grinder can sit against the wall. And to be honest, if it's the worst thing about the grinder, they are doing a great job.
Cord had to be placed on the side as the capacitor sits at the back of the base as there was no room to position it anywhere else. It's unfortunate that is where it had to be placed.
Hi Mitch new to your channel and love it. I recently begun my coffee at home journey and you've helped a lot. Was wondering since I purchased some dosing containers from basic barista and have no idea about freezing beans could you do a video on freezing coffee like for eg when would best time to freeze it from the roast date, straight away wait a week?
Hi! Thanks so much fornyour kind words .. The Basic Barista dosing containers are great. I have popped a link below for a video I have done regarding coffee storage, hopefully this helps. If need be, feel free to reach out as I'm always happy to chat. ua-cam.com/video/ILddf5LGyoo/v-deo.html
I just got a df83 a few days ago. The ring on top, that adjusts the grind size, has some play in it, from front to back. I can push it a fraction of an inch forward and then back again. Just enough to make the zero point change, but without it being turned to a different setting. Anyone else have this problem?
I know you said you have the standard burr set though though I noticed yours were black. I have the V1 from The States which I believe come with the ItalMil stainless steel. Considering the color, I think you have the DLC brew burrs. Just something maybe worth noting to set expectations correctly. Great review!
Thank you for the great review! A few questions: did you get the v2 version? And how was the static (was the RDT necessary)? Did you have any clumping?
Yes. This is the V2 I found even without RDT, it was quite good... 0.2g average retention without RDT which is more than satisfactory & much less than an EK.
Great review! Curious to know how does this grinder compare to the Fiorenzato all ground that lies beside? I'm currently struggling choosing between these two, as they are almost identically priced here. Many thanks!
Any way you think the engineers could somehow keep this grinder from jolting on startup. The dial indictor moves and ive had the adjustment collar move. Finding the zero spot changes. The motor is also too powerful creating static madness regardless of rdt, declumper mode (different designs or no declumper at all). Im.not sold on the plasma generator. In fact i believe it creates a pocket of fines along the top left corner seam of the clear chute. Yet the df64V comes with anti popcorn device that doesnt come with the df83. Another headache if looking to hot start the grinds. Overall. Its been stressful i think the Creators absolutsly know the problem but are purposely addressing the issues one version at a time, equally more models to sell for profit. Really cant back this grinder anymore
From light to medium light roasts of varying origins. Ethopian, colombian, panama. If the machine had more stabilization it would stop the zeroing issue. I think if they would of made the number indicators more aligned and visible it would help with reading your settings. The cheap dial indixtor that needs to be tightened is not a great setup. Eventually the df83 Version 2 will come out with Variable rpm. This would help keep that high grind speed under control and reduce the amount of fines
Delaware with consistemt humidity. I think the real truth behind df83 is the fact its very high rpm regrinds coffee so fast it creates way too many fines causing multiple problems. Ive seen way too many videos and other df's do the same. Its an ok grinder but not justified at its price point. Marketing hype and soliciting has caused an unwarranted amount of false reviews

This is my new favourite grinder... Once I receive the Timemore Sculptor, I will be interested to see what is better.

Hmmm... that doesn't sound right.
Have you pulled anything apart?

Ahhhh. Interesting, you have a good point there. I'll double check... thank you so much.
In Australia and New Zealand the DF83 comes with the DLC burrs as standard.

Great question. I am actually doing a video on Monday to cover this exact question. So stay tuned. 😎
@@mitchdoescoffee I couldn't wait so ordered a DF83😂 It's still on the way. Hope I made the right decision.
@@pengus2046 you won't regret it. 😎 I'm sad that I have to send this one back soon. 😔
@@mitchdoescoffee I'm sure it'd be a huge upgrade from the old budget conical grinder Iberital MC2 that I bought 12 years ago. Can't wait.
@pengus2046 oh wow! Your coffee game is about to take off!!! ❤️

Really? I've had zero issues with this grinder... are you using any type of beans specifically??

Strange question, But where about are you located? As this might be a bit more of a local issue. Re: power, humidity, etc.

I'll never look at my grinder again thanks to that beer comment
