- China has suggested that travel restrictions imposed by several countries on Chinese arrivals are politically motivated - and has warned that it may retaliate.
The US, India and the UK are among the nations that have introduced mandatory testing for arrivals from China.
The country has recently seen a surge in Covid cases following the easing of its strict controls.
And there are fears that cases and deaths there are being vastly underreported.

No. China blocked international travel 28 March 2020.... multiple countries had already instituted lockdowns by then... predominantly starting in the first week of March.

China still requires travellers entering it's country to have a negative covid test. So their criticism of other countries doing the same is ridiculous and hypocritical. Personally, i don't think that the requirement of having a negative test is an effective measure in keeping corona virus out of the country so i see little use in it.
Finally someone else is saying this, I've been saying it everywhere. Most people probably aren't aware since they just think China is "opening up" but they still have this requirement...literally the exact same thing they're complaining about. Hypocrisy doesn't even begin to describe it.

When COVID broke out, no one in Wuhan was allowed to travel to anywhere else in China, but the government was paying countless people from Wuhan to fly to different countries, especially the US, to help spread COVID. My main complain, as a foreigner in China, is that there is no scientific evidence to support this requirement since virus and variant in China are the same as everywhere else in the world. Not only that, at least my country is making harder by asking an original document, from a Chinese hospital, in my mother tongue!!! (which is not English). How do they expect a Chinese hospital to provide an official document in a language that is not Chinese nor English?

I was in Tijuana MX in late 2019 a few boat loads of Chinese people came through Ensenada. They were not the typical tourist I was used to seeing. They seemed to be nervous and all masking. Many crossed into San Diego. Covid 19 was still not a pandemic or a thing. This was prior to the restrictions on travel. They were “traveling” yes but as I say not the typical travelers from China. No name brands, no fancy cameras, disheveled luggage, etc. I lived in San Diego all my life and I have seen many tourists. These people were not Touring. They were running. 4 days later my family and I contracted Covid 19 and almost died. This was unfair. Unfair to everyone. I don’t know what to say. Who to trust. I locked my family down and withdrew my children from school long before UNCLE SAM suggested it.
Please be careful. Do what it right for your family. If you think it’s BACK and Going to wreak havoc again go with your gut.

What's funny is a lot of places have discriminated against foreigners in the last 3 years. I live in Beijing and for the summer I travelled to Dali (a city in the south) at the time the city didn't have any cases so policies were relaxed but because I was a foreigner a lot of places ask for a 24hr test but my friend who is Chinese didn't need to, even though we both came from the same city. China always does nonsense and then cries about it. Just embarrassing.

Funny that China is acting like a baby now. It's only right they pay. I think that the people are only as responsible as their leadership otherwise why make fun when India and other countries were suffering when we had also lost plenty of lives. They should also pay for supplies they gave to Africa which were not even of standard quality they did so for their own interests to gain money.
Considering people in China have literally zero control over their leadership, I am hesitant to blame individual Chinese people for the actions of their government. Many Chinese citizens were pissed off with their leadership because of covid restrictions, to the point they had the largest ever protests since the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre over them. The CCP is an evil entity, that doesn't make all Chinese people bad. Especially when it comes to the younger generation in China, they often do not support what their government does. They just have no ability to change it.

When India's cases skyrocketed with Delta, the UK did not ban flights / travel and got hit with that mega-wave of Delta cases. This is not "political", it's learning from mistakes and absolutely the right thing to do.

If you did go to China you would find out there is actually a lack of culture and history in China, because they destroyed it all during the "cultural revolution". If you want to see Chinese culture and history I'd visit Taiwan. The people share a history and culture with mainland Chinese people, they are not controlled by the CCP, they have a democratically elected government, and they didn't destroy their history and culture like China did.

There should be no travel to and from China for the time being, that is common sense, especially when its government has never been open about what caused this pandemic which may prevent future ones. The problem , I believe, is that like many or most Asian countries, admitting an error loses that country prestige and consequently leads to shame.
Also, the fact is many pandemics, if not most, have originated in China and more future pandemics, deadly or not so deadly, will seem certain to originate from there too.

Travel restrictions aren't personal. It's just a precaution based on the number of cases. We want to avoid new variants that can bypass our vaccines. Also I'm sure other countries would be happy to provide the vaccines we use if china is willing to use them to help elevate the swing back of the virus from releasing the zero COVID policy.
And since China have the same requirement of a negative test for entry into their country it's kind of ridiculous to cry about this.
