Agreed! I preordered a Nitro+ today based on the good review and lower MSRP (compared with other AIB models) if I didn’t have that insight or confidence I may have spent more unnecessary or bought something assuming because of the price difference it would be better only to get a dud (I’m looking at you 5700XT Strix!)
Please do, but also can you do a later video where you track what happened with all of the prices later to generate data so that we can interpret future day 1 prices better.
You mean like we had for the life of GPU's until the last handful of years, gone is the era where there was always a reasonably high end option from someone for reasonable money.
@@1Life2Little i really dont care - the first to restock is the one i buy - as it looks now, i wont upgrade my gpu until next gen, which is probably also gonna be a paper launch
These guys get sent free review samples and you know AMD and Nvidia urge them to say positive talking points. The fact that they put their foot down and tell it how it really is knowing that is incredibly refreshing. Thanks for being honest!
here in germany the 6800xt is listed from AMD for 650 € but they started with the cheapest at 950 € at the e-tailers the high end models did cost up to 1150 € . This is insane. We are getting scalped by AMD and the E-tailers !
Some of these models are a deal now. And sad thing is, the current generations don't provide many alternatives. So your coverage has definitely helped in the future. thanks
Last year, I got me a Nitro+ 6700XT 12GB for solid 400$. It had perfect 1080p performance, could do 1440p, had a power consumption mostly sub 200W and high FPS in shooter games on my 240HZ monitor. Then, I wanted a bit more, so I got me a Nitro+ 6800XT 16GB for 480$. Extreme high FPS in 1080p (too high), but a beefy 260W consumption (in 1440p and 4K it would be more!) and bad temps in default and even undervolt - GPU 75C and hotspot reached often 110C which the max limit!!! I sold it a few months ago to get lower TDP and temps, telling myself I don't game much AAA games, just some shooter that don't need the power, and..I burned myself on a Pulse 6650XT. It overheated with the 2 fans and felt like...laggy? slow on my 240Hz? It all felt just...cheap. So I AGAIN bought a 6800XT, but this time the Red Devil 6800XT OC - WHAT A BUY!!!! Same PC, same games, same settings, same default and UV, same room and room temps - 60-70C GPU + 85C hotspot. In last weeks hottest summer day of 36C very high and humid for my country in Europe), it reached max 99C hotspot and one app showed peak spike to 101C Love it! and just 350$ this time. 6800XT reks a 4070, which even second hand is more expensive here
Got it for 380$ as a upgrade from a Pulse 6650XT - its insane how not just powerful it is and gives high FPS, but how everything just feels.-....smoother kinda.
I absolutely love and applaud the honesty and transparency of this channel. You can tell Hardware Unboxed is not following a hardware manufacturer's review guide and suggested talking points, what to highlight and what not to talk about. Love your work! Keep being you. Thats good then intel and nvidia will act like the previous AMD, lower prices and near performance levels. Intel and nvidia don’t have to beat amds performance just a shade below or near it and price substantially lower.

Has nothing to do with scalpers, or very little. AMD delivered pretty much ZERO CARDS at launch, and that is the problem. AIB partners recieved almost NO CHIPS too. AMDs launch are WAY WORSE than Nvidia 3000 series.
In a way that's better than selling cards for 1000$+ if you ask me. I'd rather have no stock at all than have very very scarce stock to allow stalkers to sell GPU's at outrageous prices.
Perfectly happy with my 5700xt Gaming OC that Steve reviewed as "just buy it". TBH, I'm kinda tired of all the "we can't buy these things" crybabies. Reviews will be around for YEARS after supply ramps up, how soon "the internet hive" forgets that nvidia 2000's were in short supply, or Zen2 3000's, or nvidia 1000's, or PS3's and PS4's, and iPhone 11's or 8's or 5's or whatever, on and on it is with tech.
I was using a gaming laptop I bought last 2015. That's 5 years now. The laptop still works with zero problems. But man is it so bad it can't run new games anymore without severely lowing the settings. Returned to desktop and managed to grab an RTX 3080 last October. Got a Ryzen 5 3600 as a placeholder until 5900X becomes available.
Its fun when AMD made Bold claims to not have scalpers / bots eat up supply forcing the greatest demand in next gen tech ever almost to the point of open face lying and borderline criminal activity. AMD you had one job....
Super sick the GPU industry at the moment too. Building your own PC used to be so affordable, it's done a complete 180 in the past few years. These prices are just absurd.
Mainly because PC building is a thing that mass market consumers do now. It's "cool" to be a gamer / PC gamer so now there's even more demand. We need a lot more competition and products for the current demand.
@@NeXMaX Who can't build a decent PC for 1000 USD? PCPP has a parts list with a 3600 and 5700XT under that price and that's definitely 'decently capable'. Just because high-end stuff is expensive doesn't mean the mid-range stuff became worse value.

i usually upgrade every gen because more GPU power means shorter renders, but this time I have zero good options... the 3080: less vram than what i have now (i refuse to go back because that means less renders can be done in VRAM only so more time wasted), the 3090: 1500$, seriously nvidia? not gonna condone that (and ROI is too long), the 6800(xt): my rendering software is RT accelerated (octane), and also cuda only, there is a OpenCL version but it's only for macOS AFAIK, i can make a hackintosh, but AMD needs to make it worth my time, today it's plain not worth it. TBH the best option is the 3090 and that says something.
The easiest way to combat these high prices, especially for a non-essential product, is to vote with your wallet. Just demonstrate some patience and contentment with what you currently have. Companies will lower their prices when stock doesn't get sold at outrageous prices. Unsold stock is what company bean-counters understand.
@@1Life2Little its 2020 people want some form of happiness and distraction from whats been happening paying an extra $100 isnt that big of a deal considering the escapism it provides. Dont mind me paying $950 for a RTX3070 because thats just the tax in South Africa(without price gouging). So people will pay the money if they want a product. AMD just lied about the actual retail price, the same way Nvidia did with the 2080Ti. This card is a $750 card with performance above the 3080 to match it
It doesn't matter because stock will get sold at outrageous prices because stock is so low and this price range is also the price range for people who don't care how much they spend. If you want to vote go buy a console because it doesn't look like anyone else is stepping up to compete with AMD and NVIDIA and AMD is barely doing that either.
It's also possible that a good chunk of those limited editions are sitting in reviewers' machines, or have been disassembled. As is the case with this one.
I'm just looking at this thinking, "when is the next value 250$ card coming out? Will we ever get back to that point?" I bought a blower style GTX1070 for 400$ back when it came out (which was well above my budget of 300$). and I honestly don't feel like spending shitloads of money on a new GPU just to play a few, new demanding AAA games (I mean 98% of my library plays brilliantly on a GTX1070). I guess I just have to wait and buy one generation old cards on the used market instead.
The smart buy is to wait until these cards are reduced in price when they become end of life. Vega 56 went for 235 dollars around eol, that is when I got mine

Of course they want your money. Only an AMD fanboy would think otherwise. Only a nVidia/Intel fanboys would think competition is not important either. But competition is important. The best that could happen to this industry is for Intel to start making good GPUs and for nVidia to start making CPUs. With 3 companies the competition would be better. These are just third part scalper prices, those prices basically mean "not in stock". The actual sreet prices whenever they do come into stock(and go out without seconds) are much lower although still higher than MRSP and still higher than what the prices should settle down to for each model next year.
I am seeing these exact high prices from retailers too, not only from scalpers. Well, i look at my favourite retailers as scalpers at the moment. It is funny that when consumer start to write awful reviews of these overpriced products on their websites they will simply ban your account (which has many many thousands of euros of purchase history with them). Going to receive it in a week or so. No idea if CCL exists on Ireland, but from what I could see they had the nicer prices around. The same Red Devil on Amazon was priced at 499...
Well basically 1080ti was the last great improvement, even 2080ti wasn't that great to age due to little improvement. Now only recently 3080 made some big improvements, still though prices bite compared to today's 1080ti several times. But I am happy with my gtx 950. And I don't play new games, as I love playing old ones. Still up to day my only regret is that I didn't buy 80 class instead of 50 class... But instead of buying 1 old card to replace another old card, I would rather get a new system, with tons of cpus... I won't be buying a card that doesn't support h266 encode, ill wait till next year, for cpu's and gpus to have hardware support them. As I love to do double hardware acceleration video encodings on my plex server. Saves space, increases quality, saves bandwidth, and dam fast. Only shame is - too bad my old devices won't support the h266, even 2019 4k samsung 65 inch tv most likely won't support it. Oh well... I would love to see nvidia to use more tmsc foundries, for their mid range graphics cards, it might happen in 2021. But AMD will be using 5 nano, while nvidia will be stuck on 10-7nano. What is ludriculous 2080ti is still up to this day expensive as hell... Though there was a panic for a month to get them cheaply, but a used one... When 3080 launched. I would even buy an AMD card, looks juicy to me. Though driver support isn't great, especially on old games, but their raw power might compensate that. I wouldn't bother buying 2019 and older Amd cards at all, they are obsolete to me...
Please do continue with reviews. You're right: knowing ahead of time which cards are to be on the lookout for is invaluable, especially with current stock situations.

In the Philippines they overcharge you and you can't buy it unless you're building a system upwards of 1600USD. That's 1600 USD + the price of the GPU. Fuck that I'm waiting for rtx 4000 series and AMD 7000 series.
Remember though, stores don't buy from AMD or AIBs directly. Some forum posters in benelux found out that cheapest XT's suppliers are selling to shops are ~660 EUR so add VAT to that and you're already at 800EUR. That means distributors are selling cards at AMD ref prices but WITHOUT VAT. That's where the scam is happening. Several shops have put out statements: "These cards are too scarce right now, we're not selling them." I talked to a webshop dude on the phone and he said they're fucking pissed right now because the only stuff they can order is WAY overpriced and they don't even know when it will arrive. Now, there's probably still shops who try to profit of this like 950EUR f.e. definitely sounds like too much margin.

nVidia goes to Samsung to ask for a price to make a deal with them. (they come to a price of 100USD per chip) nVidia then solicits with TSMC to try and get a better deal, TSMC says they have no space available for them at all or they must displace one of their other partners which would cost nVidia the cost of their own chip+the bail for TSMC cancelling/reducing the other order with for example MS, Sony, AMD, ... nVidia goes back to Samsung to get the deal they discussed, however Samsung knows and says since you are stuck with us you are going to pay us 150USD per chip, nVidia reluctantly signes the deal. Following this TSMC sees that nVidia pays Samsung 150 USD per chip and starts "re-negotiating" with AMD (maybe also MS and Sony) to get the same deal as nVidia, threatening all other big takers they will (s)lower produktion unless they get 150 USD per chip (or even more) In the mean time, fuck the end user. The price of these Radeon cards are insane in Europe (you can't get one either either). No one should really think any of these companies are their friends.
Thank god you confirmed that you were getting annoyed by this situation. I was starting to think I was going crazy with most techtubers seeming to want to make any excuse under the sun from 'it's your fault for expecting better price/performance' to 'it's your fault for all wanting them at the same time'.
Make sure you don't stop making these reviews. Like you said, it's to inform the users. That's why most of your subscribers continue to follow you guys. Thanks again for the great content.
"$770 is a disgusting premium..." And here were are, a few months short of a year later, and I see this card for $1378 and think, "This is one of the cheaper cards available right now." fml How did this happen? How does it end? I work in a factory and one of the things you'll learn in that environment is, if someone quits and you have to do 2 jobs one night, then you've shown that (even though you damn near died) you can work 2 jobs for 12 hours. So they'll expect you to do it from now on and they won't replace that person. GPU makers are seeing that they've been leaving a lot of money on the table by thinking no one would pay the price of an entire premium gaming pc for just the GPU alone. The value of something only being "The price at which someone will pay for it." means that the value of GPUs has now gone up to ridiculous prices and they still can't make them fast enough. I feel like this is just the new norm. Pandemic and "chip shortage" be damned. This is going to be life for pc gamers from here on out.
I think the reviews are always going to be useful as it is unlikely the performance will decrease over time, but the price might. The cards will be available eventually. Thanks for the ever thorough content. Cheers and stay safe.
@@klyplays Yeah I get that I just meant if people just put up with what they had for a couple of years the scalpers would go and crawl back under their rocks and prices wouldn't be inflated if people wasn't buying every gen, I mean I love new tech and I did get a 3080 at launch at MSRP but if I didn't get 1 I wouldn't have bothered waiting I'd just wait for next gen because prices never go down.

Stop talking about scalping all the time. SHIPPING and LOW STOCK TO BEGIN WITH is the fucking problem. AMD delivered pretty much NO REF CARDS or CHIPS to AIB PARTNERS. Most will be waiting DEEP INTO 2021 to get a 6800 series GPU.
In the beginning when he says he'll talk about pricing and availability, he looks like a teacher who busted you breaking the rules and is very disappointed in you XD
Don't stop doing what you do. Informative and detailed breakdown of the product is the most important part of reviews not price. Price and availability are part of what we as consumers can control. If money is no object then those customers will always pay the premium. They don't care for the price, they just have to have the product. If you are on a budget then normally you will be used to waiting for that sweet deal on a card that offers the best performance for what you can spend.
Watching AMD go from the heroic underdog, and become the very same thing that made us hate their competition is probably one of the single most infuriating and disheartening things I've seen this decade.

Best thing for the industry really. Get to the point that aibs and retailers won't accept more silicon and watch gpus go back to $500 for the high end and we get Ryzen 5700x for $300, 5600 for $200. I also appreciate the thoughts on the pricing and how much is and isn’t a reasonable price for these cards. As someone who usually goes multiple generations between new hardware purchases, this input is incredibly helpful when assessing the current pricing situation.

"AMD is not your friend."
Thank you for saying this. So many people hail them as some sort of savior to the tech industry when at the end of the day they want the same or more profit as any of the rest of them. They want your money and they know they can get it.
Im glad they are offering competitive products as its only good for consumers to have more options. But they dont exist as some sort of martyr. Its already being seen in the price hikes. Just kinda tired of all the AMD fanboying i guess.
No company is ever your friend. I always laugh when I see people fanboying for brand or the other. They will screw you in any way they can as long as they are making money in the process.
Only fools always buy Intel/nVidia no matter what and sadly there's way way way too many of them.

Dhom H Nah, dude. They'll overprice it again until we get our COVID vaccines.
Several shops have put out statements: "These cards are too scarce right now, we're not selling them."
I talked to a webshop dude on the phone and he said they're fucking pissed right now because the only stuff they can order is WAY overpriced and they don't even know when it will arrive.

nVidia goes to Samsung to ask for a price to make a deal with them. (they come to a price of 100USD per chip)
nVidia then solicits with TSMC to try and get a better deal, TSMC says they have no space available for them at all or they must displace one of their other partners which would cost nVidia the cost of their own chip+the bail for TSMC cancelling/reducing the other order with for example MS, Sony, AMD, ...
nVidia goes back to Samsung to get the deal they discussed, however Samsung knows and says since you are stuck with us you are going to pay us 150USD per chip, nVidia reluctantly signes the deal.
Following this TSMC sees that nVidia pays Samsung 150 USD per chip and starts "re-negotiating" with AMD (maybe also MS and Sony) to get the same deal as nVidia, threatening all other big takers they will (s)lower produktion unless they get 150 USD per chip (or even more)

Problem with consoles is they will cost you more over time. You pay extra to play online and every game is about 20€ more expensive then the same on pc. Difference is consoles are like a payment plan. You pay less in the beginning but end up paying more in the long run
@@aerospaceTUdelft games cost the same on the store as they cost on steam/Ubisoft/origin/epic, there might be some that are different, but most AAA titles are priced the same, even though you don’t even get a physical disk with the game in it for one.
Also your average console lasts for about 7 years, at $60 a year the online comes about $430 by the end of its life. So you basically end up spending about $1000 total across 7 years. These days a high end graphics card alone is $1000, you can do a decent build for $1000, but after 3 years it will be outdated and not better than a console and you might have to upgrade.
