Thanks mike you help me fix my boiler. I’m from Colorado. I took a course in HVAC, but never pursued it. Watching your videos help me easily fix the problem with my boiler and radiant heating love your videos
In the uk as gas engineer we are responsible for a correct install for flueing and gas connections. WE CAN NOT LEAVE IT CONNECTED if not to code. Just can’t believe you just leave it like that.
Well I can say one thing though I am a lead man on site for a builder contractor But today I can honestly say I was impressed with the workmanship of a HVAC company on a new construction here in Greenville South Carolina I've been on multiple job sites for my boss and rarely see quality in the HVAC field here in the great upstate of South Carolina and yes I do know you are a master license HVAC in South Carolina the upstate is about 3 plus hours away for more from where you want to be
LOVE this video!! the XR-80 is a greta training furnace.. almost every house builder in my area (ohio) installed these as standard fare from the early to mid 00's.. my whole neighborhood of 1000 homes built in the original phase has one.. theres one in my house (that I swapped out in the first few months I got the house new.. it got relegated to a basement furnace).. I have replaced numerous HSI's in my nbeighborhood for people.. I keep a couple of these in a drawer at all times.. my XR80 and my american standard 2 stage 95%er use the same HSI... ha! many of these old XR's are coming out nowadays but still a nice easy furnace to train on.. that customer better hope their blower motor doesnt go.. not sure how you'd get the assembly out.. only thing I train a little differentl;y is I always say foillow the sequence.. so heat-call, inducer, pressure switch, ignitor.. so I wouldve looked at the board and saw the light flash continuous which omn trane usually means normal run..(pressure switches closed) and I wouldve gone for the HSI test before testing the gas valve.. and maybe because when i was in the industry at least 75% of my TRANE calls were HSI's... P.S. I started watching some of your vids in my monile office Bus thats recently been repaired and put back into service.. the intro music sure sounds great on the 1000 watt dual 12's pumpin thew bass :)
I work in a office in a strip mall and we were not getting any heat, the service tech went next door to find that they had shut the gas off. we also share water.
They have some water heaters under 40,000 that use a 3 inch exhaust. Bradford White. The skinny ones with the old style gas valve. I see them installed all the time to replace old water heaters with a 3 inch pipe. They are smaller capacity but many people would gladly trade capacity for not having to redo the vent.
those trane 80% of that era always condensed in the flue pipe and rusted them away. I think part of it is short cycling and excessive post purging(maybe pre-purge too). every single unit I've seen does just that to the point of multiple holes and the pipe/elbows needing replaced multiple times over the years(analyzer, gas pressure all shows it's working perfect)
Mike- being a Trane dealer, you should have checked that heat exchanger. I’d bet if you used a camera and looked down through the high limit there would have been a burner inlet crack in the heat exchanger. Good training video for the new kids though👍🏻
for those sprinkler lines under driveway, hope you guys added value by placing conduit(larger piping) in as a sleeve so they can be replaced more easily next time. (lol)
Good video for new techs to watch , showing step by step diagnostic of no heat. Those folks definitely need a chimney liner if they are keeping that old Trane for any length of time. Your thoughts on why do they continue to sell 3” venting for water heaters ? Yeah the installers from Home Depot are dreadful. I’m not sure that gas appliances of any kind should be available for sale to consumers. 👍🇨🇦
I agree in the 35 years. I’ve been doing Furnace work. I’ve heard that same comment. I just changed it. Can I have a dollar every time for it too so I can be a millionaire.
Becuase the gas line can actually rip and when it rips it starts leaking wich be very dangerous ! Thats why you have to use hard pipe it's safer I do hvac and plumbing myself I was always told take your time on the job and do not hurry it becuase when you start rushing through it can lead to mistakes always take your time ! And my advice for you is to start using hard pipe so it's not a liability !
Hey Mike, New Sub, and new Trane XR 80 owner. Quick question, if the blower motor is running at all times even with thermostat set at Auto on the fan settings, or with the thermostat removed completely, I assume that would be a bad high pressure switch correct? Is that something that can be serviced or is it a replacement only part?
Hey Mikey, of Mikey Pipes Plumbing not easy being cheesy. I podcast/social media. Hmm, system troubleshooting again. Maybe later about the dhammapada-theravada buddhism full audio book with text and music? Some of deliverance ? sqeel like pig. Love you buddy, you be safe out there.
411.1 Connecting Appliances Except as required by Section 411.1.1, appliances shall be connected to the piping system by one of the following: Rigid metallic pipe and fittings. Space heaters and water heaters shall be connected using rigid piping and fittings only. Use of semirigid (flexible) metallic tubing, fittings, appliance connectors or quick-disconnect devices is not permitted for this application.
@@PipeDoctor Oh interesting - I did some googling, and that appears to be the code only in NY city. Everywhere else allows it which is why I didn't see anything wrong with it. In fact in a TON of places not only is corrugated/semirigid allowed, it's *required* because it's safer in an earthquake.
That was a good call but they should put signs "If you smell gas turn off gas call plumber" that is C4 sitting in your basement. Put C4 on your roof not as bad but under your house very bad.
In Ontario Canada if your working on a gas appliance and you see violations i.e. the water heater, gas fireplace etc you are obligated by law to either repair the offending appliance right away or lock it out. Your in a whole lot of do do if you don't and something happens. TSSA will revoke your licence.
Boy when helicopter homeowners tell you what is ok and what is not it's time to sit hem down and show them everything, they are wrong about, so they don't kill themselves. They will still question why you are changing a 22 year old part that had a lot of life left in it for no reason LOL
Thanks mike you help me fix my boiler. I’m from Colorado. I took a course in HVAC, but never pursued it. Watching your videos help me easily fix the problem with my boiler and radiant heating love your videos
That's awesome to hear! I'm glad my videos were able to help you out with your boiler issue.
love the education for the homeowners- value
Glad you're enjoying the homeowner's special! Maybe I should start a "DIY disasters" series next.
Excellent tutorial for the homeowner. Make these trades great again!!!
Thanks!!!
Mikey the bomb. I like when you interacted with the Filipino lady, I know that accent from my grandmother,
Absolutely

At least 3
Hours.

It’s actually a great training model. I’d love one for my shop.
As a hvac tech, i always enjoy your videos and enjoy learning, and always continue to learn.
Glad to hear it
Blower motor replacement isnt going to be fun if needed. Great video
It sure ain’t
when the blower motor goes, sell them a new heater.
I work in a office in a strip mall and we were not getting any heat, the service tech went next door to find that they had shut the gas off. we also share water.
Good job Mikey Steve would be proud of you
Yeah?

Yeah true but they aren’t easy to locate and most “plumbers” have no idea about the code

well done again

Exelente service
God one Mike! Great trouble shooting sequence & fix!

Great point!
You the man
Thank you for the support!
Red light blinking 4 times, how can I fix this problem, will just changing high limit switch work
Thanku so much mike this means so much 😊😊
Thanks for the support
I’ll recommend changing them to customer when they look that way even if they work at the time
Thanks for the suggestion!
it's going to suck if/when the blower motor needs replacement - furnace access blocked by a pole.
i didn't even think about that!
so, don't send a boy to do a mans job?
Appreciate the detail
Thank you for noticing the effort put into the details!
Mikey, some of those Trane ignitors are 80 volts... something to keep back in your mind
copy. ty
Great video mikey
Thank you so much for watching!
The ignitor you removed was 80 volts need to use OEM
nope, it was 110 volts. thats the voltage it gets. thanks for sharing your feedback though.

Please continue with this kind of content .? Why can't the Gas flex line be used .? I put them on time from time to save time on certain job's.

Trane 80 volt ignition will 110 volts or less later generation switch to 120 volts which will read 120 volts
Okay ✅
Does it matter what wire goes on the hot surface ignition when you use wire nut? Thank you
Huh? There are two wires. You can reverse them. Don’t matter.

Hey Mike, I am having trouble finding your uncensored channel, can you send me a link please??…🙏👍👍😎
@MikeyPipesUncensored
What else was wrong with the water heater install? Something about the corrugated?

I would hate to ever have to change that blower or heat exchanger. Obviously the installing company never figured on coming back.
I think they were clueless

I'm curious was the gas pressure correct when you checked it?
3.3" WC
That’s the simplest piece of equipment in the trade to work on….and air filter is #1 problem followed by the flame sensor…
It's amazing how the simplest things can cause the biggest issues!
TRANE Equipment always seemed to be Extremely Expensive so you don’t hear too much about them.
Nahhhh

i've got that from many in the community who live and work to our northern neighbor. in the NY - Long Island area we dont have that power.
Not true that oil from fingers will damage ignitor
Wanna bet? Read the manual
Igniter toast my circuit board in my xv900 furnace.
Sounds like you need a new circuit board.
@PipeDoctor replaced it myself just a normal joe. Works fine but you were spot on.

lol 😝
Don't lose any sleep over it but you might wake up dead in the morning 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Learn something new every day, and this family learned that there are water heaters installed in properly

someone beat you to the 1st comment
@@PipeDoctor just finished dinner at pizzolio in oceanside.
Bad igniter
Yup 👍
Me first!
Awesome! Congratulations on being the 1st to comment on this video.
If i had a service tech in my house talking this much and this fast i would be very suspicious
Nothing wrong with a little powdered pick me up
Okay 👌 buddy
Trolls will be like your not trane certified lol
screw them
3rd
better late than never
The nice thing about 80 percent furnaces is there easier to work on
Correct 👍
they have the same mechanical/electrical parts though for the product class. not more complex.
👍✌
