    Completely agree Mush, I’m a sole trader. Most customers are brilliant, but have come across these types before. I had customer kicked off because we were unable to get the boiler/powerflush job completed in the allotted time. At no extra cost I returned to complete the work. I turned up and she had all her windows and patio doors replaced. She let me in and got back to her phone call. Complaining to the window conpany they has finished the job in 3 days rather than the 5 days they said it would take. Didn't want to pay price given. 😂😂😂

    I packed in plastering because of non-payers; they don't realise that they are paying for over 30yrs experience in the trade from ashlar work to cornice, and I am not calling out any one particular tribe, but those who wear pyjamas during the daytime if you get my drift. The money I spent on materials, wasted time and skill, and for what, for no one to be in when I came to collect the money. This happened on several occasions and in the end I just put my tools in the loft and said "Sod it, no pay, no play." I understand what you are dealing with and if it was me in your situation, I would go around at tea time and knock on the door, if no one answered I would start taking the drive up and storing the blocks in the van. Someone would definitely come out then.

    What you say is correct , they paid a deposit and let the work be carried out , your company completed the contract and the client must pay simple as that .
    In my business I had similar , they refused to pay after the agreement and I completed the work according to contract .
    I at no time threatened any retaliatory draconian action except to calmly say you have until the end of the month to pay , thereafter it is X number of £s a day interest, and if not still paid you go to debtors court and court judgements are made , also a proviso that goods will be ceased by bailiffs to the value of the job plus expenses and court costs . This never fails and they pay up as it could cost them as much as three times in the long run with serious consequences.

A great set of vids. years ago, before joining the Railway, I used to do gardens and small landscaping jobs sowing lawns etc. as well as being a groundsman. I have mentioned to customers that if they don't pay then they "have obtained services dishonestly (previously called obtaining services by deception) under the Fraud Act 2006" which is a criminal offence. I also point out that being a locksmith, I will come back and get my property back or I will disable my locks in their door making it unusable. She had a verbal contract with you and as long as it met the 4 elements (Offer and Acceptance, Consideration, Intention and Capacity) then I am pretty sure that it is legally binding. As a precaution, always send a quote by email or text and ask them if they are ok with it, once they text / email back saying yes then it is binding.

    Hey Nick thats a crap ending to the job for sure. Non paying customers are just the worst. I own a pub and we catered for 60 people for a funeral. The usual a half for the toast, tea, coffee, sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes. All agreed beforehand. They decided afterwards they didnt want to pay whole amount as only around 30 people showed up. I reduced the cost by the number of halfs (whisky/vodkas) that were not served but I insisted that the rest of the cost stood as we had staffed for more people and had made the food for more (THEY TOOK THE LEFTOVERS HOME) They then decided they were paying nothing. 1 recorded delivery letter giving them 14 days to pay or I was filing in small claims did the trick. Imagine not paying for your loved ones funeral!! Disgusting eh. Also I hate when women try to make men feel guilty about arguing with a female…that really annoys me (I’m female btw) Anyhoo glad you guys got paid, you did a superb job and deserve to be paid in full. Keep up the great work lads 👍🏻

    there are so many people who do this and get a contractor round and then add extras on knowing they do not have the money and think they will wait or not pay, they don't realise if you don't pay for the material then you are put on stop at the supplier and can't do any more work

  • @paulbentley7815
    @paulbentley7815 Рік тому +2

    When a deposit is paid , both customer and contractor have entered into a contract with each other even if no paper work is signed. Best thing in future is to be more selective and walk away from anyone you don’t trust. Your work is top quality and you will never be short. Suggest you get a baby seat for van and strap the Karcher into it😂😂😂

    Definitely, put in the contract, refusal to pay will result in legal action. That way,bailiffs/sheriffs,ordered by the high court will LEGALLY get the money,or they can seize goods,to cover the amount. The police can be called,to keep the peace, but have to let them carry on. It will only cost you £60-70. You only have to use a phone. No time wasted,no labour, nothing.

    I’ve had the same thing, did a lovely Indian stone patio for a customer with a block wall and porcelain cladding and edging, loved it all the way through even the day before completion and on completion didn’t like the cladding (this was up for days before completion) and then refused to pay and said we was just aggressive and lied about us being aggressive to the husband, we was actually videoing the patio completion and caught it all on camera and sent her the conversation we would normally edit out. She then just sent the money and after send a long email complaining that she had to pay when it was completed? Makes me worried every time I finish a job now and don’t see the customer all day

    A great video, and being an Electrician by trade and having my own business, I can completely understand where you are coming from. I got in the habbit that I would tell the customer, that I can give you a quote for the Job needing to be done, Or they can pay me an Hourly Rate, But my Hourly rate is higher as I have to allow for extras, and I never had a problem after that. The other thing is, if you finish earlier that you thought you would, is only because of the extra mucking around and making sure everything was there waiting, at the right time, or you all worked harder, as long as the job is done, Why should it matter.
    Thanks for keeping it in the video as other Trades / businesses may learn from it and Customers may also understand the meaning behind the decision.
    Take Care all

    Same old story, either from the tradesmen or the customer, there is a simple safeguard, Use contracts!
    In the UK, you must have a contract in place for any job over £45!
    If you do, and there is a breach by either party, things are a lot more cut and dried.

    I feel your pain mate! I hire out Marquees and the amount of arguments with customers asking for a quote on a small tent that they think should cost £50 and can't understand it will cost them £600 is unbelievable. I still have to pay a crew of guys for a minimum of 4 hours to erect and dismantle, driver, truck, van and all my overheads for a large company! Everything is paid upfront or it doesn't happen and in the past if we didn't get paid the tent would be dismantled around them if need be. You can't do that! Oh really, my equipment, you haven't paid, so it's coming down, believe me! 😁
