good morning guys, what a week here at B&P.
two jobs completed however things took a turn for the worst when an argument kicked off with a customers family. this demonstrates as tradesman how unreasonable some can be.
we also had a nightmare when the tip refused to take our grab load!!! however dwayne at jordans recycling came and saved the day!!

Years ago, I worked for my uncle. We did a large driveway job, and the customer decided he wasn't going to pay the remainder of the bill. That was a couple of grand. My uncle told the customer we would be there on friday, and he better have the remainder in cash, or he takes back the material since it hasn't been paid for and so he still owns it. We pulled up at 8 am. with a crew and jackhammers. We left at 915 after the customer returned from the bank with cash in hand. The thing is, my uncle was not bluffing . That was old school.

He would have ended up at the train station 😉. What grocery store lends out food? Probably next to none. Maybe u should learn from that in other areas.
Good on him, I had a friend who was a builder. He did a beautiful chimney for a customer who wouldn’t pay, he completely demolished it, loaded it all in a truck and drove off.
Very professional work I would be proud to have that driveway. The customer is crazy

As a painter I learnt a long time ago you will never get a perfect match with touch ups so now I always state in the quote that the work will not be a perfect match and that to move forwards they agree to that. Nightmare jobs and customers are soul destroying.
I used paint as an example . Same paint over time won’t match
I am also a painter and I do the same
I have a painting company, and I have a guy that can match anything for tough customers, I use him to mix my paint. Bigbox stores,Sherwin William store can only get close.

Old sets to new , tub of water half a shovel of soot , from a chimney sweep , mix with water dunk new set in , bang on aged to old set , especially on greys reds brindles , , old Irish guy showed my brother it in the 80s 👍👍

I have spent 16yrs inspecting/approving social housing property's for refurbishments, and then daily visits as the works are carried out. The joy you get seeing a completed job and the look on the residents face gives you a certain satisfaction, it's hard to explain. The other side to that coin is 6 times out of 10 the resident is a loon. I have never worked on private property's and can only imagine the nightmare of someone refusing to pay. Mistakes in building and not sticking to the plan or what was agreed is one thing, but when they try it on and standing there in your face costing you money, it takes a good man with a level head not to grab them by the throat and shake em until they give a instant transfer of the money that was hard earned and owed.

Great work as always..you guys always go above and beyond with attention to detail. Surely the customer understands that things left outside for two years will weather (and get dirty) 😮 The match looked really good on camera and I’m sure within a few months they would be exactly the same.

These people who refuse to pay fail to understand the damage this does to a small business and the consequences following. It has happened to me. Luckily it happened only once but it nearly wiped me out.

"The customer should've known...." ah yes! I get this even in my line of work. Never ever assume and make even the most obvious things clear to the customer. I had to relay part of my drive after a water leak, about 18mths after it was done. Spare blocks unweathered and did look a bit odd. This was 9 months ago, now weathered, so it will change in time.
Absolutely nothing wrong with standing ground, the customer isn't always right. No matter how professional you want to be, if someone starts spouting and getting angry, it will lead to reciprocated responses. People can't be expected to just listen to it and not react!
Cracking work on both lads, and that gravel one looks fine and dandy in the end - dunno what the issue was as it will weather and even now it ties in well. Job well done I say!!

We done a driveway for a customer that was away on holiday when she came back she was straight on the phone its the wrong colour, it was a 80 metre drive with 2 huge radius edges.
She asked for burnt oker but then asked for natural stone, ever since that we carry a block of each colour and say to the customers have a few hours to choose your colour as once its down it isn't coming back up...EVER.
Yeah we double check. Had a lady go mad as she thought we hadn’t got the right colour once but they were dusty and when we wet it up she realised and calmed down
@@BPPavingnottingham my tip m8 when its raining keep you and the team in house, we did a grab during rain while on another job, the whole dig out had to be done again.
The amount of hours I've worked for free is a precious lesson 👍id love to do some work for you for free there's a block been cut on this job on the radius that wouldn't happen with me (triangle) in the middle sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm a perfectionist 😂😂

Superb job as usual fellas .....Gravel grids are a fantastic / cheap solution to build a driveway ( can take up to a 5 ton vehicle ) if layed correctly , like you boyz ...but I much prefer your blockwork....

Yeah they just wanted the others replacing fee so made out it was my fault …. If I hadn’t of been argumentative I would have had to change for free

You should introduce a deposit up front on all jobs, then that way they dont pay they dont get deposit back and you still get paid even if the deposit covers materials.
At that point were probs £1-2k in the hole
@@BPPavingnottingham yes n no, as deposits can be good and also bad at the same, and its better to be 1-2k in the crapper then like 8-10k or a full job out of pocket after.

Interesting on the matching blocks, surely we all know matching would be an issue with old faded and new, why could they not just be painted as its a drab old colour which could of been improved with a slap of masonry exterior paint anyways. simple solution and brighten it up a tad. Good video anyways its worth hiring you guys just for the laugh while your doing the work etc.. keep it up we all need a laugh in this crazy depressing world we are now stuck in..

Hi lads, quick question, when you are doing the border bricks it looks like you put a wet ish mix down then sprinkle some dry cement over that, have I got that right? Could you explain this process please 👍

Seen you guys on a job on Ramsey drive last week and church street the week before, we just moved to Arnold from bestwood and see bp crew every week while doing my job. If u ever need any small jobs of removing waste I do tip runs and can help out cheap but like I say only do small jobs till I can afford a bigger van. Keep up the videos lads 👍

Im not a farmer, and I have .22 rifle and shotgun, my partners dad had (he died recently 😔) semi rifle and pistol, he was only a deer hunter, we've just inherited his shoot in fact, I couldn't ger my licenses in time to inherit his semi/pistol weapons which is a rral shame cow some of that stuff was airloom and I want my parrner happy but thats some ramble for another time, point is yea qe can have guns in uk, sub sonic hollowpoint .22 can be fired silently and does big damage because it doesn't pass through as easy, its a total myth we aint got guns here, only difference is we dont give them to children for passing their 16th..
Usually when a customer wont pay, you find theyve got plenty of money. Normal working class pay for the job no problem
