Ir anything, the only reason Sidious edged Yoda in the confrontation is how diminished the Light side was after the culling of the Jedi and Sidious riding the pendulum swing of the Force in general towards the dark side in those moments.
Couldn't agree more. The novelization states that Yoda only retreated because the force itself grew dark, and it was the force's will for him to live to fight another day aka train Luke
Agreed. He tanked Sidious best shot, and then pushed back. He should never have left and finished Sidious off. The surprise of still being around would have been enough advantage.
I believe sidious ran from the fight the entire time as everything he threw at Yoda failed. Palpatine hauled ass as soon as Yoda was far enough for him to do so. Yoda is my favorite star wars character.
@@stgibbs86 palps blew absolutely nothing. Yoda bare handed absorbed it all then blew it back at palps but Yoda blew back with so much force he lost balance and fell, then palps relieved ran like hell.

Yoda beat Sideous on every level. Sideous lucked out when Yoda got blown back and had nothing to break his fall. Backup was coming so Yoda had to go. Sideous had high ground throwing all the platforms down so looks more power in the force but Yoda stopped one coming at speed with Gravity and the force behind it to launch it back. Palpatine was afraid because he knew he got lucky in his fight with Yoda. Yoda is actually stronger in the force and better with a light saber. If Yoda had not been closer to the edge, Sidious would have lost.
This is not said enough. Yoda disarmed Sidious and when Palpatine threw the best he had against Yoda with the Lightning barrage Yoda threw it right back in his face. Yoda proved he was marginally stronger. But the Force was not on the side of the Jedi and had Yoda's footing been slightly better the galaxy would have been spared decades of tyranny.
Yoda lived for many centuries, he had a lot of time to master the aspects of the Force and learn its secrets. Just as Sidious claimed Yoda was arrogant and blind, Sidious was no different. He assumed just because he utilize the Dark side of the Force, he is more powerful than its Light side practitioner Yoda, who was older and more experienced.
A solid video and breakdown, I could see that Palpatine was terrified of Yoda's abilities more so during their fight because think of the battle earlier Mace Windu came very close to taking the Emperor out but after Palpatine had easily killed three great Jedi masters. Palpatine could have still been weakened from that fight now comes Yoda his greatest threat and after the first blast which Yoda shook off Palpatine thought possibly this could be the end which would have terrified him.
Especially when he broke Palps force barrier when he pushed him back into his chair after taking his force lightning. It's like Yoda wanted to see what he had in terms of power instead of force absorbing the lightning. I bet that made Sidious go oh dayum this little green dude is more powerful than I realize.
Now that I think about, I really haven't seen anyone other than vader or Yoda force push Sidious. Palpatine really is the one. Great video man, really love learning more about what these two specifically are capable of. Oh, and could you make a video around Supernatural Encounters.
In a sense they are both like "The Daughter" and "The Son" neither can best eachother and will always be a stale mate you cant have the light without the dark, just as there is no dark without the light.
Yeah I’m intrigued. In all my years of being a Star Wars fan, I always assumed Sidious HATED Yoda, but respected his power. Now I find to discover that Sidious doesn’t hate him at all? Wow! I’m 1:24 seconds in. Let’s open this Holocron.
To think Yoda had the slight edge even without using the Dark side shows how powerful he is. Imagine if Yoda was a Sith, Sidious would be on his knees tho... if only we get to see Full potential Anakin or Vader... that would be more interesting. SADLY it will never happen.
Palpatine's youth & meeting Darth Plagues, showing how they constructed the grand plan to destroy all Jedi would be an awesome movie. It would be the darkest movie Star Wars can make .
This is pretty good. It's good he respected Yoda in a way. Their duel was a stalemate. Neither could win. It's fantastic, all out duel. That's what Sidious respect and honors-power and strength. Mostly power above all. It's understandable why Sidious didn't look for Yoda-this was his revenge :) May the Force br with you. Have a nice day too :)
Probably realizing he'd found someone, finally, that was his match one way or the other. Especially in ways like the blade. Had the Cosmic level balance been NOT Darkside shifted an more towards neutral or even the opposite Yoda might've proved to be too much to handle. An it's something don't think was lost on Sideous. ALSO to consider, Sideous like ALL Sith respect Strength an passion. An it's NOT something unheard of. Quite common for even bitterly hated enemies to STILL have respect for each other. Happens in both real life an plenty other franchises all time. Some bitter enemies ironically seem to like an respect their hated rivals an STILL want better for them then some of their personal allies depending Wonder if it was planned by the Force to have Yoda spend decades living rent free in Palpatine's head too or did Palpy find a being to love an have a bromance with??? Which sounds like an old Robot Chicken Episode...
Its obvious Sidious didn't hate Yoda. He called Yoda '.....my little green friend." Also to add he addresses Vader once he arrived on the Deathstar in ep 6 as "....my friend."
When I watch videos and we start hearing things about Palps origins it make me wish for an Palps series or movie.BUt then i remember DISNEY would be the ones making it and i quickly change my mind because i know they ruin it..Imo if you was making an Palplatine Origin movie it would need to be an R rating ..Not some fluff thst Disney would put together.
Rather say that Palpy didn't really see "punishment" rather than consequence. Of course he saw consequence, just positive consequence of his negative actions, thus reinforcing them as correct.
Serious note: my dad, while denying paternity and bribing officials to avoid child support, constantly bailed/bribed/bought an adult "son" from a previous marriage out of various drug charges. He was no Palpatine but he never took responsibility for his actions.
This video touches on both the light and dark. But I honestly believe that had this battle continued much longer, Palpatine would have won out. Yoda was either 900 hundred years old or very close to it at this time. One could say he was on the decline in his powers. Yoda gave everything he got, but The Emperor stayed with him in the fight. I do believe that this is why Yoda lost this fight, was knocked off the podium and fell to the bottom of the Senate floor and finally made it to Bail Organnas speeder telling Bail " Failed have I". Then Yoda fleeing to a mudpit of a world hiding from The Emperor and Vader. The bottom line here is that Yoda and the light side failed in this case and The Emperor and the Darkside won. There simply is no other way to look at it.
I think the only thing that saved Sidious here was Yoda being a true follower of the light side. Yoda didn't want to kill him, although he easily could have. Sidious, being the literal embodiment of the dark side, was powerful on his own, but his true power lay in his ability to corrupt. It's why he dared Luke to strike him down during their confrontation. If Sidious could make Yoda or Luke kill him, it would open them up to the dark side. They would feel all powerful in the aftermath and would have struggled to walk the path of the light ever again. It's why Vader had to be the one to kill him. Vader already sacrificed himself to the dark side, and he knew he would die if he challenged Sidious, so he made the sacrifice that neither Yoda nor Luke could make without becoming evil in the process. Palpatine also didn't care if he was killed because he already mastered a process of bringing himself back. Say what you will about the bad storywriting of the sequels, I actually think Sidious coming back made total sense when you see how often he tempted Jedi to kill him. He wouldn't have just invited certain death without some way to subvert it, and he would still win by making Luke or Yoda strike him down in a rage, which is the first step on the path to the dark side.
Palp was scared of Yoda. He knew he couldn’t beat him in a saber duel/ was disarmed so he retreated to throwing/lightning which Yoda blocked with ease with his bare hands!
Palpatine and Yoda. Two sides to the same coin, Yin and Yang. Just saw this video, and I have a what if question that no one I think covered. What if Yoda and Windu faced Palpatine?that Yoda was not on Kashyykk, but someone else…….like Kit Fisto
What age would be “peak” Shev be? The young version that killed his master when he was most driven, the mid age version that shrouded himself in the darkside undetected for years, or the older version that was crippled by the dark side but still put fear in Vader?
I'm pretty sure the most powerful Sidious is the elderly one, as he purely relied on how powerful he was in the force. Not to mention having the resources to simply never have to fight again if he didn't want to. In Disney Canon - I hate that word - it's clearly Sidious in EP 9 IMO.
Obviously because Yoda was unmatched in the order with force powers and lightsaber skills in Legends no one was able to best him in a straight up force duel nor lightsaber challenge yeah.
Yoda hid for the remainder of his life after this duel, he knew if he showed up again he would be cut down. Sidious only grew stronger after this fight as well, Yoda was the frightened one
It's funny how Qui-Gon jinn is actually just pretty much Luke Skywalker, but without anything that makes him badass like he is the most chill. Do the will of the force guy ever and his rationale seems to make sense a lot of the time. I actually really like him, but it's just so funny how he's so weak. And I really don't care what any of you bring up in Legends because he still died as a master to someone that his Padawan could defeat and no amount of comics or novels that you have is going to change what happened on screen
Oh Disney ruined Starwars with the new three :( I know people don’t like the prequels but I LOVE them so much, and they’re so much better than anything JJ and Disney created with Force Awakens etc
Power respects Power. Perhaps (just perhaps) Sidious craved a true challenge to his dominion. Otherwise, how could he have any genuine, unalterable faith in his personal power and the Dark Side otherwise? Playing a game on "god mode" would get tiresome, and there would be no real test of his pure, dark ideology.
I mean it may have been a culmination of years and years of conflict between Jedi and Sith...but Palpatine and Yoda hardly measured up to the Jedi and Sith of the past...neither was on the same level or wavelength as Revan or Malgus or other Jedi and Sith of old.
Sidious was not stronger than Yoda. Not in cannon or Film. Windu had Sidious best until Anakin jumped in. Sidious has lost to 2 Jedi so this notion that Sidious was more powerful than Windu and Yoda is as big of a lie as the one espn did when they claim Lebron has passed MJ.
Used the force to disguise himself up to that point, according to canon. Once Anakin barged in, he was getting hit by his own lightning which either interfered with the force mask or gave Sidious the opportunity to make it look like he was a victim. Then he used the scarring to look sympathetic in front if the senate and portray the jedi as aggressors. After all that, he’d won and had no further reason to ever hide his true form again. That’s the reason given by canon at least. Personally I prefer the explanation that sith eyes and disfigurement are the result of a sith accessing more power than their body could handle, meaning Dooku and Palpatine were always in perfect control of themselves and avoided disfigurement. Meanwhile Anakin immediately gets Sith eyes because he wasn’t in control of all the power he was channeling, for example. The dark side is a pathway to access greater powers than you would otherwise have, but accessing more power than you can handle has negative side effects. I saw Palpatine as being so powerful that he could access all that dark side but handle it without harming himself, and Dooku exercised restraint and control so he never drew so deeply from the dark side that it overwhelmed his body. Then Windu actually nearly killed Palpatine and forced him to draw deeply from the dark side to survive his own lightning being bent back into himself, and using the dark side to sustain his own life is what disfigured him so badly so immediately. The force mask always seemed like a made up detail, in that it was never mentioned in the movies. But that’s the official explanation.

Ir anything, the only reason Sidious edged Yoda in the confrontation is how diminished the Light side was after the culling of the Jedi and Sidious riding the pendulum swing of the Force in general towards the dark side in those moments.
Well, Sidious Midichlorians are higher than Yodas and in the novel Yoda admitted he could not win the fight.
Couldn't agree more. The novelization states that Yoda only retreated because the force itself grew dark, and it was the force's will for him to live to fight another day aka train Luke
@@ProGamingTVGamerso….still couldn’t beat Yoda in a saber duel. Actually nobody could at that time.
Agreed. He tanked Sidious best shot, and then pushed back. He should never have left and finished Sidious off. The surprise of still being around would have been enough advantage.

Mutual respect.
Sidious respected Yoda because of his wisdom, charisma and hyper intelligence, much like himself
His 1 and only equal
Loved the duel between Yoda & Sidious.
I believe sidious ran from the fight the entire time as everything he threw at Yoda failed. Palpatine hauled ass as soon as Yoda was far enough for him to do so. Yoda is my favorite star wars character.
Nah, he had yoda beat
@@stgibbs86 keep dreaming. Palpatine didn't even leave one scratch on him.
@@rumblestein7651 one scratch? Palpy literally blew yodas lightsaber away with a single lightning blast. He was just toying with yoda.
@@stgibbs86 palps blew absolutely nothing. Yoda bare handed absorbed it all then blew it back at palps but Yoda blew back with so much force he lost balance and fell, then palps relieved ran like hell.
@@rumblestein7651 lol palpy was laughing about it and taking his time climbing up, knowing yoda was scared and running
I love this video. I love to hear about Yodas power. Dark Yoda looks like a Gremlin.
lets be honest lol if Yoda fell to the darkside during his battle with Sidious, im betting everything i have that Yoda wouldve destroyed Palps all too easy. lmao
Sideous imo was outclassed all the way.
Two things can be true, you can respect someone and hate that person simultaneously. As a matter of fact, respecting them may make your hate stronger because you also hate the fact that you respect said person and what he/she has done to gain that respect.
Sidious was crapping his baggies when he saw yoda that he actually tried to run away 😂..... Sidious also feared mace windu
What do you mean feared Windu? He leaped right into that duel, with extreme prejudice. He wanted all the smoke with Windu.
@@sparrowprince3432it becomes apparent that midway through their duel (when they’re in a bladelock & mace windu is staring sidious in his soul) that Sidious begins to realize Mace Windu is alot more powerful than he originally thought.
Yeah both yoda and windu smoked palpy lol only plot armour kept him alive
Yoda absolutely smashed Palpatine. If it werent for clones coming and plot armour sidious would be absolutely toast lol
Q: How do you feel about the changes made for how Luke made his lightsaber?
I would watch a whole movie on palpatine and his rise to becoming what he became
If Yoda had been younger , he would have destroyed him…!!!! His age was very advanced…!!! Always respect anyone who is the like the grandmaster…!!!!!!!
Sidious was a good Emperor. Kept people in line. Created jobs. I like him @@crownprincesebastianjohano7069
@@Drew151Proofhe also ended the war, bringing peace and security to the entire galaxy
@@celestinx But Sidious orchestrated the war to rid the galaxy of the Jedi order. Of course, he ended the war.
Yoda would have burned Sidious to dust if he had turned to the darkside.
Now that I think about, I really haven't seen anyone other than vader or Yoda force push Sidious. Palpatine really is the one. Great video man, really love learning more about what these two specifically are capable of. Oh, and could you make a video around Supernatural Encounters.
I've been waiting for this for a long time my little green friend
In a sense they are both like "The Daughter" and "The Son" neither can best eachother and will always be a stale mate you cant have the light without the dark, just as there is no dark without the light.
I wish we could see yoda in his prime
Yeah I’m intrigued. In all my years of being a Star Wars fan, I always assumed Sidious HATED Yoda, but respected his power. Now I find to discover that Sidious doesn’t hate him at all? Wow! I’m 1:24 seconds in. Let’s open this Holocron.
A warriors strength, is determined by the strength of their enemy
What if Sidious had Yoda's lifespan?
Now that's an insane what if, a sith in the rule of two era who lived to 900?
Well, they'd be fucking unstoppable to say the least.
Another excellent video. Thank you
To think Yoda had the slight edge even without using the Dark side shows how powerful he is.
Yoda disarmed him so he kinda won tbh.
@@roc50140 yes, he kinda did. But it was a stalemate.
Yoda had better recent experience from fighting Dooku, who during Episode II, was damn near as powerful as Sidious and more skilled with a lightsaber.
Some bitter enemies ironically seem to like an respect their hated rivals an STILL want better for them then some of their personal allies depending
Wonder if it was planned by the Force to have Yoda spend decades living rent free in Palpatine's head too or did Palpy find a being to love an have a bromance with??? Which sounds like an old Robot Chicken Episode...
Please do a video on all materials,
And another on all species with like a foot note card about each
Thanks
It's a shame, as wise as Yoda is and that he lived through the High Republic, that he would become so paranoid, callas, and arrogant as a Grandmaster
Keep the great work i look forward to your videos
Palpy caught MIRIN.
Yoda disarmed sidious in the senate chamber.
Facts!!!
Sidious was terrified because he couldn't push Yoda around as he did the other Jedi. Yoda was able to match him.
Rather say that Palpy didn't really see "punishment" rather than consequence. Of course he saw consequence, just positive consequence of his negative actions, thus reinforcing them as correct.
Yoda smacked him six ways to Sunday in the 1v1 and nobody wants to talk about it just because they lost the war.
I hypothesis that he wanted Yoda to see what happened to his precious jedi, kind of like a mind f***.
Yoda realized he didnt have the high ground.
I already have my own lightsaber from Galaxy’s Edge, so I don’t need another lightsaber from OWNASABER
For balance to be restored, Always two there must be.. A Master and an Apprentice.
Jedi or Sith..
Yoda let his light fully leak out into the force
I wonder if they filmed the entire fight. If so where is that footage?
Terrified is a stretch my bwoii Sheeve was havin a blast, laughin and cacklin the whole time…
He was terrified when he saw his strongest attack wasnt working
Love the article. 😎
I do believe that this is why Yoda lost this fight, was knocked off the podium and fell to the bottom of the Senate floor and finally made it to Bail Organnas speeder telling Bail
" Failed have I". Then Yoda fleeing to a mudpit of a world hiding from The Emperor and Vader. The bottom line here is that Yoda and the light side failed in this case and The Emperor and the Darkside won. There simply is no other way to look at it.
I fuggin love star wars
Yeah I get why Sidious thought like that towards Yoda.
Damn that's true. And I do also believe that Rey is actually Palpatine now.
Palp was scared of Yoda. He knew he couldn’t beat him in a saber duel/ was disarmed so he retreated to throwing/lightning which Yoda blocked with ease with his bare hands!
Ya this is why Master Yoda is the best and strongest Jedi ever. He's literally just a fucken god and a legend bro
Because he’s Yoda.
Exactly nuff said!
Palpatine and Yoda. Two sides to the same coin, Yin and Yang. Just saw this video, and I have a what if question that no one I think covered. What if Yoda and Windu faced Palpatine?that Yoda was not on Kashyykk, but someone else…….like Kit Fisto
Palpatine ftw pro empire builder and planner
I gained respect for Yoda
What age would be “peak” Shev be? The young version that killed his master when he was most driven, the mid age version that shrouded himself in the darkside undetected for years, or the older version that was crippled by the dark side but still put fear in Vader?
I'm pretty sure the most powerful Sidious is the elderly one, as he purely relied on how powerful he was in the force. Not to mention having the resources to simply never have to fight again if he didn't want to.
In Disney Canon - I hate that word - it's clearly Sidious in EP 9 IMO.
What are the soundtracks that play before and right after the lightsaber sponsor part?
How was Yoda arrogant? Sidious was the one who was arrogant.
Was Yoda at his prime that day? Or was it far sooner? When was the prime of Yoda? Has there been a video about that?
Obviously because Yoda was unmatched in the order with force powers and lightsaber skills in Legends no one was able to best him in a straight up force duel nor lightsaber challenge yeah.
A early life show of palpatine would be epic
Yoda hid for the remainder of his life after this duel, he knew if he showed up again he would be cut down. Sidious only grew stronger after this fight as well, Yoda was the frightened one

Yoda is the GOAT! 🐐
Put some respect on Yoda's name.
Oh Disney ruined Starwars with the new three :( I know people don’t like the prequels but I LOVE them so much, and they’re so much better than anything JJ and Disney created with Force Awakens etc
Day 151 of asking for a part 3 of what if anakin was trained by qui gon
Can anybody sendnme the link for the video @STUPENDOUS WAVE just mentioned about how Yoda maskes Obi wans presence when lookin for Vader pls?
Power respects Power. Perhaps (just perhaps) Sidious craved a true challenge to his dominion. Otherwise, how could he have any genuine, unalterable faith in his personal power and the Dark Side otherwise? Playing a game on "god mode" would get tiresome, and there would be no real test of his pure, dark ideology.
Halacron definition?
I’m so happy that Palpatine won against the Jedi when he did , he deserved the victory 🔥.
I mean it may have been a culmination of years and years of conflict between Jedi and Sith...but Palpatine and Yoda hardly measured up to the Jedi and Sith of the past...neither was on the same level or wavelength as Revan or Malgus or other Jedi and Sith of old.
It’s called fear
Epilepsy warning at 1:43 !!!

So Palpatine needed his ass whooped when he was a kid? 🤔
So why were sideous’ eyes not colored like a siths during his time before he made his move? He was clearly pure sith the entire time
Used the force to disguise himself up to that point, according to canon.
Naw, the guy just lost to Mace Windu big time. And, was afraid of 2-peat.
Yoda is riotously OP that's why! Only second to Revan!
