    Love logseq, just wish it had reminders 😀 still prefer having tasks with appropriate context + a new daily notes page every day than Todoist...but hopefully we'll get reminders at some point

    • @toolsontech
      @toolsontech  Рік тому +3

      Reminders is a bit tricky because where would you expect them? On the phone as a notification (would be essential for me) or just inside the logseq app? Still, having a specific block pop up at a set time (and not go away) would be amazing not just for tasks.

    Great video as a new user of LogSeq. One suggestion, especially toward the end: More Show. Less Tell. Thanks!

      Will do, my current setup makes it easier to show more so hopefully that will be better in my future videos.

    This is almost exactly what I've been doing. As a fairly novice user of Logseq, I'm glad to see that I'm using it in the way others are. The complex queries and plugins just weren't working for me. Thanks for the video. Great job.

      Same, I noticed as I was using it that the queries where more a distraction then actually helping me plan my day.

    I was trying to make the daily note work as where todo's lived, but I didn't want to have the same todo repeated and have to mark them all done. For whatever reason block references didn't occur to me until you mentioned it. Thanks!

      It's one of those things I forgot in the beginning and that came back hard later. Using them everywhere now. Does make it hard to use the data in Obsidian for example because block references aren't cross compatible. But well worth the trade.

    Thank you! I try to find out how to have daily regular TODO on each day in Journal or better to have a separate page for it. Also to Add/maintain the TODO, but I think this is not really the main function from Logseq.

      I'm using TODO tasks a lot for work, but personally I still use Todoist to compliment logseq. Mostly due to speed. Main function for me stays note taking

    I'm super interested in using Logseq, though I have to admit it still sounds confusing to me. I'm used to Joplin, which I later replaced with Trillium, and it seems the approach in Logseq is quite different.
    Above all, I have the feeling that there's a lot of typing to do in order to get things looking how one wants. If that's the case, it almost sounds as if it actually takes more time out of one's day rather than optimizing it. I mean, the tasks alone how explained in this video, or the query, need not only several commands, but also quite some good thinking/planning ahead. Does that really makes the app working for you, or is it the other way around?

    • @toolsontech
      @toolsontech  Рік тому +1

      Good question, definitely when comparing hierarchy-based tools to freeform tools it feels like you need to know everything ahead of time. I think it's a personal flow thing, for me just adding everything in my journal and then later spending time when I need something to find the related items and group them is more efficient than for example Notion where I spend a lot of time thinking where to put things up front. As I got more experience I spent less time because I start to learn how I search for things and so when writing things down in my journal I just link them to the place where I know my future self will look.
      For example, I started to add [[newsletter]] to anything I might want to put in my newsletter and [[tips]] to things I want to collect later for a document I'm writing with 100 tips to work faster. In a hierarchy system I would do the same but I would probably have made a newsletter and tips folder. So both are work, just different steps.

    Thanks for a summary of logseq task management. The prioritisation and queries are excellent. Is there any way that the list of tasks can be formatted? For example, I would rather have only the tasks without their parent lines and headings, as it simplifies the view greatly.

    • @aleksandrk9703
      @aleksandrk9703 Рік тому

      Also, with regards to priorities and schedule, is there any way to use queries to sort tasks based on priority or schedule?

    • @toolsontech
      @toolsontech  Рік тому

      Formatting is possible, but only in advanced queries and you need to know both clojure and html to fully understand what's happening. Same for sorting in those advanced queries.
      I work around the priority / schedule sorting by using multiple queries in my tasklist view. Something I will touch on in the video I got planned for on the 12th, Chaotic Task Management.

  • @Noodles.FreeUkraine
    @Noodles.FreeUkraine Місяць тому

    Great video, thanks! Does anybody know why queries reorder tasks within blocks instead of just showing everything as it appears in the original location?

    • @toolsontech
      @toolsontech  Місяць тому +1

      A query has no set order and as such if you get things in the right order it's more luck. I do however uses queries for my tasks and then unfold them to get subtasks and those will remain in order.
      So for me query is -> Based on priority, due date, etc..
      If order is important -> Subtasks onder a main task that has a priority

    • @Noodles.FreeUkraine
      @Noodles.FreeUkraine Місяць тому

      @@toolsontech Ouch. 😒 I would have hoped, if it wouldn't apply active sorting, it would at least accept the order in which everything was entered instead of throwing it around.
      I guess since I use the TODO Master plugin to show the progress, my tasks look like subtasks, but in reality they aren't. Maybe I'll have to ditch that one as well and work with real subtasks.
      So annoying having tons of great plugins that don't add much to the experience after all when you try them out. 😕
      I still appreciate your response very much, thanks for getting back to me! 👋

    Interesting video, THANK YOU.
    I am going to ask you a question that I think will be useful to many people. In "Daily", today, an option appears that is "NEXT" and, strangely it gives you the next tasks but in reverse order: the furthest in time first, and the closest on the bottom. How can this be put in a logical way?
    I have looked in Configuration, but in the code I do not see a way to indicate how to do it. Any idea? Thank you.

    • @toolsontech
      @toolsontech  Рік тому +1

      So this was a puzzle, and I'm not fully there yet because the result is pretty flat (I would like to see pages for example)
      But this takes the results from a TODO query and sorts on journal day, you can add "Z" in the sort-by function to reverse the order.
      pastebin.com/RzV0nRGC
      Hope it's useful

      @@toolsontech Thank you very much for your answer. I don't get it very well because I'm not a programmer and in logseq configuration, where "NEXT" is, the code is not the same. But I will try to see how to implement it.
      Thank you very much

    If I have a TODO "A" and its child TODO "B", is it possible to automatically have A also flagged as DOING when I flag B as DOING and A = TODO when B = TODO?

    • @toolsontech
      @toolsontech  3 місяці тому

      Not with core Logseq, I would look around at plugins to find out if someone else had that need. Would be nice for time tracking

    Do you have solution to watch and manage those tasks from some phone app?

    • @toolsontech
      @toolsontech  10 місяців тому

      I mostly use special pages in the Logseq app on mobile. But to be fully honest I still cheat here by having tasks in Todoist. Mostly because my mobile tasks are often shared (Household chores) and the fast interface.
      My recommendation would be a "Todays Tasks" page, make it favorite and use a simple query to get all tasks from the today page. To have a single view on mobile. If you only occasionally check tasks I would take the friction of scrolling my today page.

    Hi! Thanks for the video, it was really useful. I'm having a problem with Logseq though. I want to see the undone tasks from a specific page, but all tasks are showing up, I don't know if it's a query bug or my syntax is mistaken, could you help me out?
    {{query (and [[pagename]]) (task (TODO) (not DONE))}}
    I've also tried {{query (and [[pagename]]) (task (TODO)}} without any success :(
    Thx

    • @toolsontech
      @toolsontech  Рік тому

      Hey, so there's a couple of things you can do, in a query sense it's always (ACTION PARAMS) so if you want to say NOT you do something like (not (task DONE)). Problem is, you will get all lines not just tasks.
      {{query (and [[Sandbox/SelectNotDone]] (not (task DONE)))}}
      But with tasks you usually know all the options, so it's easier to just select what you DO want to show
      {{query (and [[Sandbox/SelectNotDone]] (task TODO DOING WAITING))}}
      Hope the examples help!

    Why not use Kanban like Trello, surely Logseq has a Kanban plugin to drag and drop tasks?

      Good point and it does have a few kanban plugins to reformat lists into a card view. I worked with them but for me it was a bit clunky and I try to stay to base Logseq as much as possible.
