Super fun game! Thanks for the invite and letting me fly the glorious ship that is the Starhawk (even if I flew it into a bunch of obstacles lol)
This was the best batrep ever! Thanks for showing what those ships can do~
Great battlereport! Love all the tactic talk. We are learning a bunch by watching 😁
Great play through! Awesome seeing the 2 new ships going head to head, even though it seemed a lot of the damage to the Starhawk was coming from bumping and obstacles.
Great report :)
Seeing you guys having so much fun is always a good sign!
Bummed you didn’t record that second onager shot
The Onager is a glaringly interesting ship that drastically changes engagement, especially combined with what is quickly reaching among my favorite cards, Varnillian. I haven't gotten to play with her yet but since the moment we saw part of her card I was really excited since I both love her old EU lore and she has a fantastic, tactical use that rivals Ordnance Experts and Gunnery Teams which are hard to meet as the best cards for the slot. She creates a massive strategic use for ships with rerolls, ships that expect to be in the midst of battle, she has variety in moving dice types from one arc to another, in general she gives a lot of use and of course is most impactful with the super weapon as getting blacks on that means you can get blacks in your next shot so long as in range as earlier identified in this batrep.
While the Starhawk is a frighteningly strong vessel it's not much more so than an ISD, a bit troubling sure but the cost is going to take a huge chunk of fleet before upgrades. I think the Onager really brings a lot more to the table and ups the Imperials heavily with their signature superweapon. Its lower cost gives it great versatility in fleet composition and its mechanics are really allowing for some tricky builds. I love the stuff it allows for like combining it with Interdictors to get turn 1 shots forcing the enemy to be speed 0. I love the twisting of rules and the Empire gets all these toys. I can't wait to start messing with them when I get the opportunity. Beck also seems like a great card for some quick needs.
It's so ridiculous. The imperials get the best stats in armada and the only ways the rebels have a good chance at winning is with an objective card or with "hope", as it is in the movies. This isn't exactly the movies. Creators at armada should make it more balanced in my opinion. Also no, I am not not biased because I usually use imperial when I play.
@@tyranttyphoon1222 you are biased, the Empire does get the cool stuff because it's always had the best toys in lore, bad guys always do, but the Rebels have been more competitive and winning most of the tournaments. Now whether Wave 8 changes that remains to be seen.
@Puncle I understand that the imperials get better stuff because the rebels are supposed to be the underdogs, but that doesn’t change the fact that the stats should be unbalanced in a game that is tied around stats.
@@tyranttyphoon1222 No, you misunderstood. Imperials get the stuff like Interdictors and Onagers because that is their doctrine. These very unique weapons.
In terms of actual game balance tournaments have been mostly Rebel recently. As in the game balance was leaning in favor of the Rebellion.
I love waking up and seeing today is armada content!!
Thanks for the bat rep!
Great work!
Been building and painting Warhammer armies for 19 years, didn't know if I wanted to invest in Armada as I already have 17 armies from different systems. This week some people on FB marketplace had some Armada stuff for the right price and I ended up with the core set, MC80, Assault Frigate, and Star Destroyer in one day. I'm hooked and your videos, are super informative!
Love these batreps
"Shoot her!!!!! Shooooootttt herrrrrrrrr!" - Robert Muldoon, Jurassic Park
My sentiments exactly.
This is the first time I have ever seen a StarHawk lose. Interesting and good game.
I’m getting the onager this Thursday and I can’t wait to add it to my imperial fleet
I'm going to order the Onager and the Starhawk in the next few weeks, I can't wait. From what I've seen, the Onager is my favorite of the two new vessels. I may also try to snag an SSD at some point. I haven't gotten that one yet, it's a bit pricy.
Elijah Sellers got the SSD in that time acquired a gladiator and a raider, along with this got some hammerheads a cr90, Nebulon b and an mc 30c. I’ve been very busy expanding my fleet
This looks like a blast
I cant wait for my starhawk to arrive, it looks like the onager blows it out the water though, especially since it's so much cheaper than the star hawk! Great battle report, nice to see the new cards being fun!
That was fun to watch. It would kill your activation advantage, but do you think a Starhawk and MC-75 would be a good pair? Either MC-80 would work as well, it just seems the 75 is more versatile with ranges.
To quote Star-Lord,"Finally!"
It's basically the New republic vs the imperial remnant
My quick build is a cheap GR-75, Leia and comms net. It makes its way into so many of my builds.
I'm a little jealous that the rebels get the Starhawk because god damn that's a pretty looking ship. Happy that the Rebels get something awesome though! And hey, I collect them all so it's going to be mine regardless!
I'm glad that a batrep is online already for these ships. Unfortunately the dialogue jumps around a bit too much and come across as disjointed actions. Some of the action makes no sense. Also the camera movement is too jerky. and finally, I find the price of these ships exorbitant and cost prohibitive on a budget. These cost FF about 3 bucks to make in China and they are charging nearly 60 and 80 dollars for them here in the states. Even with Disney muscling in on the action that is a ridiculous price for plastic crack!
Awesome!
IMPERIAL LIGHT CRUISERS ARE BACK IN STOCK! I thought that was worth mentioning first because they’ve been out of stock for a year and many people have commented previously that they can’t find them. I checked FFG’s website and they’re still sold out, but there are two online board game stores here in Canada that have them in stock - I don’t know if it’s true every where. I’m surprised Crabbok didn’t mention it in his recent videos.
As for the Batrep, I thought it was great! I enjoyed seeing most of the new upgrade cards in action. Romodi seems very powerful, especially for Infested Fields, and might be too cheap at 20 points. Salvo seemed to radically change the combat behaviour, especially for the Rebels, who traditionally favoured small, fast ships that can easily outflank Imperial med-large ships. But now with Salvo, Imp ships can counterattack with comparable firepower to CR90s, HHs, and Neb-Bs, deterring those ships from firing even at the poorly shielded rear arc. I wonder if Salvo will cause the META to shift to favouring larger ships that both tank and dish out powerful Salvos.
Fascinating...
I've seen the Onager get beat up by the Starhawk in the few Wave 8 BatReps I've watched, so it's nice to see the variation in the game.
Great to see these in action! Can’t wait to test my Onager in anger.
One question though. When you were taking the side shot at the front of the Starhawk from the Onager, it was in arc, but dot to dot it was crossing the line of the front arc. Have I been playing it wrong? Our interpretation is that the line of fire cannot cross fire arcs.
Dot-to-dot it can cross your own lines, but not the defending ship's lines.
@@Belryan Exactly - Your shots can ALWAYS cross your own lines (assuming they are still in arc) but cannot cross the DEFENDER's line.
Crabbok Aaaah! Perfect! We’ve been doing it all wrong. Thanks so much!
Tried out the Onager test bed with a trio of Aquitens an assault cruisers and the super best friends for fighters . Ended up Shredding a Star Hawk . Onager I think has a real future with MSU fleets. With consistent damage to back it up that cannon really hurts.
AMAZING
I like the Onager Testbed better for 3 reasons: 1) Long range ignition 2) Support team which you can use to increase your flank shields with aux shield techs 3) Cheaper point cost.
can't wait to get my starhawk
Starhawk model is just gorgeous
Noooo... forgot your linked turbolaser reroll on your fist salvo with the doible blank lol
In regards to the Superheavy Composite critical effect, my understanding is that because it's part of an attack that targeted a specific hull zone, the damage needs to be taken on that hull zone. It can still be braced and/or redirected if those defense tokens were spent.
was just about to comment that. Has to be 1 hull zone
It uses the same language as landing on a Debris field. Because it doesn't specify a hull zone, it's as Crabbok says - four separate instances of one damage each, so it can be spread around.
Ryan Lee good to know I assumed that the crit activation was a single source ‘once for each’ but the key word is that it ‘occurs’ for multiple instances of damage being applied
@@Belryan But the critical effect occurs as part of an attack (step 5, to be specific). For the debris field, that's not the case. During the first step of an attack, you're specifying the target hull zone. Because it's part of an attack that's targeting a specific hull zone, I do NOT believe it's subject to the rule on page 5 that states "When a ship suffers damage and the hull zone isn't specified, the ship's owner chooses which hull zone suffers all of that damage." The hull zone WAS specified during step 1 of the attack.
Edit: Now, I'll admit that if my underlying assumption is incorrect, and critical effects trigger independently of the attack even though they resolve during an attack, then I would be wrong. Other critical effects that deal damage do usually reference "the defending hull zone." So yeah, perfectly willing to admit I may have it wrong.
Anyone know if the salvo token is used against a ship with Officer Emperor Palpatine, does the salvo attack require the spending of a defense token?
I personally would have used a cymoon refit,
Hi Crabbok just wanted to say, this is a awesome battle. And were do i see who's won the lateste give away?
And remember, more dakka means more awesomeness.
And don't you think it could be cool, if FFG made a new faction for armada? It could like the mercenary forces.
Other then that, I just want to say i love your channel.
That was a great game. I see that you regularly fly without squadrons. Why not just throw in a few TIEs to swarm and weaken or take out some enemie squads?
The clash of the Titans :)
Shocked you didn't debut the Onager with Arcquitens!! 2 Onagers would appear to be a blast too!! Thanks for the Batrep!!
Man, I was hoping to see the Raider do something....
Just a quick thought on that crit that says cannot attack at long range does that stop extreme range
No. However I wonder if they'll errata it at some point.
I wonder if since salvo is out there are going to be ships that are built more for counter attack then actually doing normal damage
Every upgrade that will boost your counter attack will also boost your regular attacks, so I don't think you can only focus on the counter without it being a total upgrade.
@@Crabbok You can't add more dice to your salvo attack, only uses printed armament. Cards like mon karren, xi7, stuff like that helps but you can't boost it all that much with upgrades.
@@hms1998 Correct, you can't add dice but you can modify them. Linked Turbolasres for example let you reroll a red, which works on every attack you make, including Salvo - for example. It's what I mean when I say that any upgrade that helps you salvo, is ALSO gonna help you on normal attacks.
Sigh... I need both of these ships...
I kinda wanna get into Armada, but not really to play, just to have the models that I can display in my office lol
Lol I have some Armada ships but they just hang out at my office at work. Havent put them on the mat yet!
If you do, let me know. I'd buy your cards from you.
Does anyone know where Crabbok got the player aid he holds up at 7:24 ? I've checked all thru BGG etc and can't find an up to date one like this
I could have sworn it was from tbe Armada subreddit...
@@nerds4knowledge TY ! I shall look there :)
What kind of laser pointers do you use to check for obstructions?
I use "The Army Painter" its a straight line like the one used in the video... was inexpensive and still working well after a year of use
Im confused by the Onager attack at 19:50. Why was it two damage and then 3 more? The 3 more I get cause of the extra crit damage, but you had 4 damage there on dice , why was that only 2 instead of 4 and then 3 more from crit effect ?
Ah- re-watched, I missed him declare a brace defense token.
Wow that Star Hawk is bigger than the onagar
I understand this was just a test but the video is sooo chaotic. I find it really hard to watch.
Man you’re making it hard to not want the Starhawk...going to have to pick it up. Thanks for the battle report...must say I’m surprised you haven’t painted the Onager pink or something :P
Salvo might be a godsend for the Imperials, shutting down the Rebel tactic of sending small ships to attack the rear (as demonstrated), and free up Raiders to go on the offensive ( also demonstrated). Good battle report.
so when are the giveaway winners announced?
I want to see a Starhawk and Mon Karren MC80 build
Been theorycrafting a fleet just like that!
I have one as well. Starhawk, Mon Karren, and assault Pelta
I feel like salvo is a terrible idea to add into the game. I haven't been playing this game that long but I feel like with salvo people will be afraid to attack other ships now
The strongest salvo in the game on a ship that can take the token is 3 dice (with a max of 2 red). I think its a great addition to the game. Decent anti-squad option and adds more depth to the game. I don't think you can make the argument that it is oppressive or overpowered.
@@hms1998 It might hurt the rebel swarm. Running a bunch of very cheap but very weak ships is now less effective in some cases. I know I would hate flying a Hammerhead fleet against a salvo fleet.
@@wolfsigma not really because you can only use salvo on one of the ships it dosent work like counter
And it is only the Sith deal in absolute
Question, is there a gundam varient of this game?
Odd that you cut out the killshots.
As a new player, what’s the best place to get access to Salvo?
can only get it from the two wave 8 ships, starhawk and onager
The Space Donkey is ok, but I really don't like the look of that new Rebel ship. It seems like it's from a different franchise.
let the dog play :)
I feel like raider did very little job on this mach
