The Test Bed and OSD require slightly different tactics to deal with. With Test Bed you can try to dodge around its arcs and close to a close range fight but the OSD with the SCBT hits like a truck with a close range double arc with 11 dice. The OSD is basically an Interdictor with a boomstick.
Looking at having a pair of Onagers with a Cymoon ISD.
So worried about this. That seems really overpowered. Course us rebels are getting the starhawk so I can’t complain lol. Maybe do this for the starhawk? That being said, my imperial counterpart still struggles with some basic rules, so they probably won’t get this haha
I think some beefy Mc30s? like mon mothma boosted Foresight and Admonition?
Definitely interested in getting one, have to see how theory craft works out before getting a second. Two seems like a good idea, but that's a lot of points to put into a second line especially when you want to put a lot of stuff out in front of it for Romadi who might become one of Empires best commanders.
Now I know how to fight this thing.

Hey, Crabbok. Some ships and fighter squadron packs are not available for amazon prime or available online with less than 2 months shipping. I also live in Orlando/Central Florida and I would like to know if you recommend a specific store when it comes to armada
Sci Fi City usually has at least some in stock. Coolstuff used to but they almost never do anymore unless you use their online store. Not sure about others TBH.

Tried TIE Phantoms this weekend against an onager. Got three in it's rear arc. And of course they all rolled blanks or crits... Sigh.

I come from a Top 10 what we want video from 2017. Tector-class ISD - the ISD without the hanger but has more specialty ie communications ship. Dreadnought-class Heavy Cruiser (Empire and Rebels). MC-80B (Mon Romanda). The proper model of the ISD I and all the strengths and weaknesses - it's a peace-time vessel that is a all around combatant with it's 8 Dual Turbo Lasers and good anti-fighter weaps - as opposed to the ISD II that is in game and is a capital ship slugger. Interdictor Cruiser (not to confuse the Immobilizer 418 in game). K-Wings, U-Wings (for boarding), and V-Wings. The Mandator II Star Dreadnought.
It's a cool looking ship for sure.

I'm thinking a couple MC30 torpedoes would work quite well, get up to speed and zoom in, fire in close broadsides with black dies, get some damage in to the more vulnerable sides.
Speed 0 turn? Hell yes!
x3 Onagers? Ouch. I imagine they'll do alot of damage upfront but they don't look like they'll stand up to a round or two of counterattacks
I think range for extreme range will be done from the targeting tokens. What I am curious about is what happens if you move the tokens outside the arc with transports
Umm I'm a bit meh on this ship
I think blockade run as a objective could be good and bad. Making the map long and narrow might make the aiming easier for them but also having fast ships zipping round could be good
My strategy is similar to yours: Nav on round 1, and Concentrate Fire on rounds 2-6 (and maybe Engineering on 4 or 5), unless I have a carrier, which I tend not to because I'm not a huge fan of squadrons.
Ok so how do we defend against Star Hawk?
I think this ship, rather this wave, is good for the game. It reinvigorates some old tired commanders and and introduces a new weapon and way to play. Really looking forward to it.
I wish the Rebels would get a heavy hitter like the Onager. Sure, the rebel ship is cool and all, but it's not as powerful as the empire hitters
Yeah, would need fast ships to flank Onager and avoid its super weapon. But slow ships will likely take a shot or two from it. And I believe the Onager flanks aren't going to be that easy to target it, specialy if there are other friendly ships protecting the Onager sides. Also wondering how Salvo tokens will impact the game.
Can your next video be a list build with this ship?
Have to wonder what the origins are for the design. Wonder if it was an early concept for the modified ISDs (with the super weapons mounted underneath) that appear in the episode 9 trailer?
Design might have been abandoned last minute in favor of the old ISD design for nostalgia reasons.
My best advice would be to stay out of their front arc all together. Attack from the sides.

would gx-7s be useful? assuming the oniger is not using the raekil title, slowing it to speed 0 would stop it from being able to aim
I think this will provide a fun challenge to stop. Seems like a good counter to my B-wings bomber list so I'll want to test that and see if it can work against it.

Victory class star destroyers are supposed to be in the pro for Star Wars rise of sky walker.
I don’t think a single onager is much of a threat by itself. I see it’s value as taunting the enemy to get closer. To either circle far, or rush in. The rest of the fleet should do the killing.
I agree all the power is in the front super weapon arc. If you can stay out of it negates a lot of its dice. Lots of smaller ships and fighters could be very difficult for a onager.
I still want 3 onegars. And also some raiders. Damn things are hard to find right now where i am
Not my style of play, but i do have a Star Wars addiction so will be buying one still.

The soft 'g' sound is correct. Every dictionary I've checked has said so.
They're both right, but the soft g is the more usual english pronounciation (especially in the US)
The soft g is the medieval/religious Latin pronunciation. The hard g is the classical Latin pronunciation. I think the hard g was what was used on the stream. So arguably the Roman catapult would be a hard g, while the modern donkey is a soft g.
I’m worried about starting armada, I really want to grab the core set, but I’m worried it will end up like xwing. I bought the xwing core set and a couple different ships, then they released 2.0. Does anyone think that they will do the same for armada?
They've done a much better job balancing Armada than X wing, they've managed to pretty much keep everything competitive. There has been a tweak here and a modification there via errata ( two floatila rule, for the most part doing away with life boats and taming Rieken which are pretty much the major changes made )
I was pretty stocked up on x-wing with ships from all 3 factions, including the huge ships when 2.0 dropped. For me it breathed new life into a game I had shelved and the conversion kits were great for keeping my existing purchases relevant.
I think Armada is still in a better place than x-wing 1.0 was and it doesn’t suffer from the power creep that was affecting X-Wing. 1st wave armada ships are still just as viable as the 7th wave. Don’t imagine they will be doing a 2nd edition of Armada.
It’s very possible a new core set might come out when the clone wars finally release, similar to Legion.
Extreme range isn't a thing, right? There's still only short, medium and long, just with the onager it's measured from the targeting token, not from the ship base. No reason to change anything as far as i can see.
Extreme range is anything beyond long range. It is a thing, according to Brooks. Measuring from the targetting beacon determines which dice you use for an ignition attack, but if it's beyond long range it's still considered extreme range.

I was thinking of going with the Core Set Victory, ISD (or Chimaera), Raider and another ship. Should that be the Onager?
I'd say just go with one of the squadron expanisions

I have the chimera but not the original ISD, and the chimera is fun to use, as is thrawn. I'd try to get that one.

Dam now I miss playing Armada as well. I had a lot of fun with the game even though I did not invest much into it.
love your armada vids really got me into the game very thankful. I would like to see someone try out a triple onager I think although the initial rounds would be quite expensive, once you get close in you may be able to take them out. What do you guys think?
Dual liberties I think would be a good start of a fleet build to go against them. They are fairly fast, good front shields, and they pack wallop 😁
Looks like the onager has kind of brittle sides; so maybe a faster ship like raider or CR90 chewing on it?
I'm actually much more concerned about how to deal with Starhawks. Looking at the previews we've seen it feels like an absolute beast.

You should do a video on how difficult it can be to get some of the Armada ships. Some of them haven’t been on store shelves for at least a year. My friend had to get his raider from Italy just to have one of them, and all the cards are in Italian. Same thing with the gladiator and the light cruiser. The new upcoming page doesn’t even mention reprints anymore.

My son and I just got into Armada. I used to do a lot of war-gaming in the past, we both love the SW setting... Armada seemed A no-brainier. Love your vids. They really help us both with tactics and rules. Keep up the good work!
I still feel worried about fighting the onager, it looks the best way to use it isnt necessarily to kill something, but weaken it significantly so smaller ships can finish it off. Thanks for the vid!
Totally agree about getting three. Although, I do like just painting all of one mini type the same and all at once. At least I take good paint notes.

As an Imperial player I don't see the Onager having a massive effect on the game.
Granted, we haven't seen the full rules, but I think some of the upgrades that come with the ship will see more use than the ship itself.
