I rarely get impressed with picking hard locks because you give a picker enough time and the right tool they will get it open. But this one is impressive. I enjoy your picking style one of few.
This makes me wonder if you can create a lishi to decode these locks and see if there are any zero-rise pins. Maybe then there is a way to build it so the zero-rise pins can be set on the tool and then its a normal, though insane, picking process. I think that would render these obsolete... now to FreeCAD to see what can be whipped up.
Excellent pick! You have had a lot of success picking very difficult locks. I have made a couple locks that I think are pretty difficult to pick. If you would like to give them a try let me know and I will send them to you.
Nice job! Chris Evans did something like this a few years ago, but he made diamond shaped picks so he could push in a little for low cuts and pull out a little for high cuts. But he could only fit three picks in the lock at once. But there must be a way to fit all 5 if done right...
@@yabende I attended a presentation by Priyer at Ozseccon 2019 where he discusses how he used 5 picks to pick the Bowley. You'll find it at around 17:54 in the following video of his presentation. ua-cam.com/video/Sa-rGWjq0Cw/v-deo.html
Actually, if I recall correctly from LPL's description, you only need to put four picks in the lock. A random one of the pins is always a zero lift pin, which enables the lock to resist bumping and raking (as if the shielding didn't already make that next to impossible LOL).
Gnarley setup, i like how you actually took the time to truly pick the lock with 5 damn picks, rather than just brute force it. What do you think about "the unpickable lock"? Is it a holy grail, basically? This thing defeated LPL (admittedly, 5 years ago, he could probably get it now) and i am curious what a clearly better skilled picker has to say about it. Btw, the algorithm doesnt want to show this video for sone reason, i typed in your channel name + "bowley" and it was still the 4th or 5th video down
Hi. Thanks for your comment. I believe that there is no lock that is "unpickable" - it is always a matter of skill, understanding the mechanism of operation and finding the tools that make it possible.
Hey, do you think you can make a template of your lock picks that I could print out? I have a Bowly myself and I would really LOVE a crack at picking it
Hi, I don't think I have them anymore - I need to look, but I can help you. Find me on the LPU server on Discord, or on any of the lockpicker groups on FB
In reality, a thief would not want to take so damn long picking this lock it is assuming they even came prepared for this specific lock. It took you about 3 minutes to pick it. That's an eternity for any thief who is on a time limit. Overall, any lock that takes this long to pick is great on my book.
Of course you are right, I agree with you 100% and have been saying for years that thieves only pick locks in movies. Picking any high-security lock requires a lot of experience and preparation for a particular lock, and the process itself often takes a dozen or more minutes. Cheers Man
Oh Wow, amazing work 👍👍 That was really quick 😱 Great video as well 👏 How was the feedback around the bend? Any chance like the jiggle test or so? How much do you need to modify for other bittings? Very very cool, cheers 🍻
Thanks, the feedback was pretty good, but to make a jiggle test pick it would have to be much more precisely made. I cut mine out using a Dremel. To make a universal pick for the Bowley Door Lock you need to make five pieces like I showed in the picture in the video.
@@septclues I wasn't suggesting that he did and I apologise to Yabende if that's the way my comment came across. Incredible picking! Loving the paper clip tensioner too. These look so hard, almost impossible, but here you make it seem easy! Almost.

I am sure that you can make a pick with five elements from a 0.5mm thick sheet. The key is 3mm wide and such a pick would be 2.5mm
