Hi Shirley! Thank you so much for all of this information about Dwarf Meyer lemon trees, I have had one for several years now, but in the last couple of years it has not given me any lemons it blooms beautifully but no fruit, the pot size is good and I add fertilizer for citrus trees accordingly, any suggestions, I live in Tucson Arizona, thank you so much, I love your voice and your personality, have a great 2023!!!!! 🤗😘🙏
Hi Leon! Thanks for watching! Your lack of fruit may be due to too much water, low nutrients, exposure to cold or the lemon tree may be too young. But most likely it may be not getting pollinated. Just saw this...am in love with Long Beach where I visit frequently...my friend has a Meyer lemon tree on her side yard! Sooo, fell in love with them!! My question is this: can I grow this dwarf tree in Texas? Live in FW-Dallas area!
You probably can grow a dwarf citrus tree in Texas. Mind you, I don't know your specific climate. If you have winter temperatures that are typically under 40 degrees, you will have to protect your potted fruit tree from frost. Best bet, ask your local garden center pro.
Just found you on here 🤗 Love your advice . I love to plant flowers. I'm having trouble with roses this year. I also like to see you on H &F . Thanks 🌹🌹
Hi There :) Thanks to this video I just learned how to tell a Dwarf Citrus from a non Dwarf Citrus. And guess what I realised that I made a mistake! Since mine will be in containers I need mine as dwarfs. I bought a Dwarf Lemon that is a dwarf.. and I bought an Orange Tree forgetting to buy the dwarf variety. And yes with this video I can confirm that it is a young non dwarf orange tree. Is there anything I can do.. like keep it in smaller containers or giving it a prune from the top so it remains short maybe. Your help will be appreciated!
Hi! Don't trim the roots or the branches if you don't know what you are doing. Trimming orange tree branches can encourage vigorous new growth. If you trim the roots and don't do it correctly you can be inviting infection and other things. I would just put in a container a couple of sizes bigger than the root ball and repot every few years as needed. At some point, it will want to be planted in the ground. You will be able to tell because the tree will not be flowering and fruiting as much. Thanks for the question and for watching!
Sure. There are many brands that offer a citrus and palm soil. EB Stone is the brand that I used but you can use any brand that has a citrus soil, Palm mix or combo
I'm so happy I found your channel. I just bought a Bon Fire Peach tree and am getting ready to transfer it to a pot. The trunk is right in the soil and the roots are buried which I will rectify like you show. I do have a question. My yard is bathed in sunlight all day long and I want to place the container on the ground. Do I need to place it on something so it isn't directly on the ground and bugs can get in it from the drain hole? I also need to protect it from the lawn guys who will cut everything in their path. Any suggestions? Thank you for this simple and entertaining video, I can't bend over much either and using a chair is something I haven't thought of - who knows why? Have a great weekend. I also subscribed.
Thank you for the wonderful comment! Yes you can place the pot on top of the soil! The bugs will get in regardless if planted in ground or outdoor container so not much you can do about that. If you like, you can wedge a paver into the soil, level it and place the container on top of it. Good Luck and keep me updated on your progress!
Thanks for the informative video. Greetings from Australia. I have a kumquat plant I am planning to repot to a bigger container. Can I use citrus premium potting mix + compost + peat moss + perlite? Cheers.
Hi. I really appreciate your video. Very in-depth an informative my question is when it's time to bring the tree inside for the winter how do you get the bugs out of the soil without harsh chemicals or do you have to deal with them being in the house?
Hi R.C. You can hose the whole plant down with water, depending on how large the container is, you can submerge it in water with a little soap to drown the bugs. Then drain well, dry it down, and you take inside!
I live in Victoria, BC and while the climate here is moderate (for Canada) I was wondering what to do for sunlight when the days get shorter as there is also a lot of cloud here. I bought a Meyer tree from Costco.
I am getting a dwarf meyer lemon tree and it will go into my greenhouse. Zone 7b. The UofA cooperative extension indicated i need to keep it in the greenhouse during our winter which is approaching now. My question is...the nights get to 32* in the greenhouse and then heater comes on. Should I wrap row cover around the tree at night until the heater brings temp to the 40’s? When the sun hits the greenhouse temps rise to 80’s.
Hi Geri, Meyer Lemon Trees are very cold hardy and can withstand temperatures down to about 20 degrees. So it sounds like it will be fine until your heater kicks in.
Hi, thanks for watching. Water young meyer lemon trees deeply about once a week or as often as needed to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Older trees require less frequent but deeper watering, usually about 3 to 6 inches of water once every two weeks. Use more water during hot or dry periods, and less if rainfall is frequent. You can harvest the lemons when their skin changes from green to dark yellow.
Hi loved watching your video 👍🏼. I have 4 different citrus plants and all the new leaves get infested by leaf miler, tried a lot of different sprays but nothing seams to work please help, thanks in advance
Hiya Sofia, here's an excellent resource on just that: extension.uga.edu/publications/detail.html?number=C1145&title=How%20to%20Control%20Citrus%20Leafminers
Started lemon, grapefruit and mandarin from non gmo seeds in my (south facing) kitchen window. Lost 2 😒. Lemon made it to about 4" and grapefruit, about 3". Found out they don't like wet feet! Your video has helped in addition to my bit of research. Any suggestions on a good online supplier? I can check here, but not sure nurseries have them here in the Midwest. I'll be winterizing in the house, of course.
How can i make my lemon tree produce more leaves, it's very small, it has only 5 leaves and it's about 6 inches, i'm keeping it outside in a very sunny place, i fertilize it and i water it only when the top it's dry. But still not growing.... How can i make it grow and produce leaves?
Hi! Try a fertilizer that is higher in Nitrogen. This is the first number on the fertilizer label which shows three numbers. THe first number is nitrogen. The nitrogen number should be at least 2x larger than the number for phosphorus which is the second number in the sequence.
My dwarf meyer lemon have buds and flowers but all fell...I tried to put plant food. It's been cold here in California and so I put it inside. Will that help or no?
Meyer Lemon Trees are very cold hardy and can withstand temperatures down to about 20 degrees. If your area gets colder than that, your tree will need to be brought inside. But when they're inside, winter heat can dry them out. Be careful not to place them under a vent.
Thank you, Shirley..very informative! Can you help with advice on preventing scales? My dwarf lemon is in container on patio. Doesn't have complete airflow and direct sun is generally 6 hrs/day (San Diego coast). Thank you!
Hi! My pleasure and thanks for watching. I will give you a link with some good information on controlling the scale on your lemon tree: www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/citrus/controlling-citrus-scale.htm
Hi Ash, yes, you can plant again in same container. I would sanitize the pot thoroughly beforehand though. The meyer lemon should be potted alone in its own pot.
Hi Shirley! You said give fertiliser to citrus tree in January through August. Can you please tell me exactly what season in Jan -August in America because I live in Australia our season is different from your country. Can I start give fertiliser to citrus tree in spring and through Autumn? Thanks very much Shirley😍
Hi Thu Huynh, Thanks for watching! In general, you should be doing your citrus fertilizing about once every one to two months during active growth (spring and summer) and once every two to three months during the tree's dormant periods (fall and winter). This applies in your country too. Hope that helps!
Thanks Shirley. I've got one kumquat tree and the leaves are yellow and very small. Ive given dynamic lifter but the leaves still yellow. Can you please tell me what to do? Thank you very much Shirley
@@ThuHuynh-vo3cc Yellow leaves can be caused by many things including lack of nitrogen, insufficient light, water-logged soil (plant roots need oxygen to thrive), dry soil, or iron deficiency. For a nitrogen deficiency, it shows as yellowing of older leaves in the tree's foliage. You can add special nitrogen-boosted fertilizer in your feeding to help resolve it. For a zinc or iron deficiency, it shows as yellowing of new leaves with green veins. To fix this, use a kelp spray solution or add zinc to the soil bed.
Citrus trees can be planted any time after the danger of frost has passed, which in our area is usually around mid-to-late March. It's a good idea to plant citrus early, try to have your trees in the ground by May because a sudden hot spell may damage trees that are not well established.
So I just bought a lemon tree last week and now that I've seen this video, I think I bought a regular lemon tree instead of a dwarf. I used a 22inch pot. Will it be fine?
Hi Jett! Thank you for watching my video! The plant should be fine for now, just keep your eye on it because it might get too big for the pot and need replanting. I hope you have a beautiful day!
@@EdenMakers We can only have it in a pot and let it grow maybe a max of 9 feet and as wide as maybe 6 feet with pruning. Will the tree eventually still be able to bear fruit? Thanks.
EdenMakers I have the same problem! How long would it last in the pot? I’d rather not plant it if I didn’t have to. I would rather keep it in the pot for it’s lifetime. Is that possible with a regular lemon tree?
Love this! Was so informative and nice editing. I've been watching a couple videos surrounding this topic but I've learned much more from yours.
Thank you for the wonderful feedback! I hope you will subscribe to my channel. I have a new video posting this morning. I hope you’re watching
@@EdenMakers Thanks, I will check it out! Also, I was wondering why does the root split have to show/be above the soil?
Lisa Fan Good question. Remember that a grafted tree is two trees spliced together. One tree functions as the route stock and determines the overall health and eventual height of the fruit tree. So, citrus trees with a dwarf growing habit are selected for dwarf citrus trees. A second citrus tree with delicious or specific fruit is selected as the top tree, also known as the “scion”

If it were below ground, the top tree would be dominant and would continue to grow as it would have if it had not been grafted. I hope that makes sense. Thank you so much for your question

Thanks 🌹🌹
Welcome and nice to meet you, Bet! Thanks for watching!
There are three sizes of trees. Standard (large), Demi Dwarf (medium) & Dwarf (small).
Hi Robert, Yes, there are. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a blessed weekend.
Hi There :)
Thanks to this video I just learned how to tell a Dwarf Citrus from a non Dwarf Citrus.
I have the same question I will check back later to see the answer lol
@@EdenMakers thank you so much!
@@cornfarts My pleasure!!
Could you please name another soil as alternative for E.B. Stone citrus and palm soil ?
Good
Luck and keep me updated on your progress!
Thanks for the informative video. Greetings from Australia. I have a kumquat plant I am planning to repot to a bigger container. Can I use citrus premium potting mix + compost + peat moss + perlite? Cheers.
Hi JSE, Thanks for watching. You can use premium potting soil , pumice and some horticultural sand for better drainage needed by citrus trees.
I was speaking about the bugs in the soil. So I can repot the plant in fresh soil to being in the house in the winter after I hose it down?
Nice vid but maybe you could please put links to the products you're using in the videos
That's a great idea, thanks so much for your feedback! Thanks for watching 😁
I live in Victoria, BC and while the climate here is moderate (for Canada) I was wondering what to do for sunlight when the days get shorter as there is also a lot of cloud here. I bought a Meyer tree from Costco.
plant light
i liked the video , i like your personality and your cute ,keep up the good vids ,subscribed for more
Hi! Thank you for watching and sharing your feedback. I am happy you are enjoying my videos and subscribed! Welcome!
@@EdenMakersPERFECT! Am totally excited!!
How often do you water this lemon tree? Are there dos and donts of plucking the lemons when they are ready?
Hi! Thanks for watching! Are you looking to buy a citrus tree online?
@@EdenMakers Yes, I'm almost sure I won't find a Meyer tree here. (Dwarf)

Thanks for sharing, love your video! I just bought a wharf Meyer lemon, lot of flowers blooming. Do I need to fertilize now or when?
Thank you, Jenny! Yes, you can fertilize citrus tree monthly from now until around sept or when it begins to get cold.
@@EdenMakers Thanks Shirley!
@@shirleybovshow4122 what she said! hahaha
@@shirleybovshow4122 thank you!
I will give you a link with some good information on controlling the scale on your lemon tree:

@@EdenMakers Thank you so much!
Would you plant something in the same container? Like under brush or a spiller? What could I put in for compatibility?
Thank you for sharing. Can I start growing a citrus tree now in May?
Citrus trees can be planted any time after the danger of frost has passed, which in our area is usually around mid-to-late March. It's a good idea to plant citrus early, try to have your trees in the ground by May because a sudden hot spell may damage trees that are not well established.
@@EdenMakers thank you!!
Thanks.
Yes, with the proper care it should be able to bear fruit!
EdenMakers I have the same problem! How long would it last in the pot? I’d rather not plant it if I didn’t have to. I would rather keep it in the pot for it’s lifetime. Is that possible with a regular lemon tree?
