My new favorite tutorial channel. You’re the best and your city is beautiful. Thanks for this.
A tip : you can watch movies at Flixzone. Been using it for watching a lot of movies these days.
@Jase Arturo Definitely, I have been watching on flixzone for years myself :D
Nice shirt! Glad I found you. You make me glad I got a GH5. You help me take it to the next level!
Excellent. Thanks!
I like to see your movies! Thanks for everything guy!
GOOD! easy to understand! nice!
Your video has added to my knowledge to help improve my videos thank you
You are very wellcome. :-)
CAn you make a video for lumic G85 Log Setting for best video result
Good one! Thanx!
Nice skin tones! Especially under that intense sunlight, and presumably without using a scrim to shade the talent? Lots of videos about GH5 settings etc, use inanimate objects, indoors under constant lighting. Your video demonstrates real world scenario!
(Much appreciated GH5 owner) 🤠🎥👍
You make some nice videos!
My favorite channel even though it's no longer posting regularly in 2020.
What lense did you use for shallow depth of field? Thanks
Thanks mate!
Must be done for every lens also if you plan to use different lenses, since different lenses draw colors differently.
Cheers!
Yes, good point. Even the same lens changes color when wide open or stopped down so to be exact you should show the camera the x-rite every time you press rec. But you get close enough with this general calibration LUT.
Joo.Works true that, i begin myself with everytime but has changed into every lens/different filters.
Oh! So you do this same process, but for every set up, right? :-) Must been a big job.
Joo.Works It was, with every different setup, damn it got too slow, it slow down me too much.
Just a little tip to everyone you can calibrate in camera to get accurate colors. I know under each color profile you can adjust certain values.
Load your test footage onto a software and calibrate the same values as you would in camera but in the software to be color corrected to something like the Xrite.
Then mimic the adjustments in camera as to your post software adjustments. You might have to experiment with the different color profiles to see which one would be the best starting point.
My guess would be Cine V
would you like to create a video with your gh5 settings? I would love to do that! The setting I struggle the most to understand is luminance levels. Thanks! Great content here!
i hv learn new things here thanks love it
Good to hear that! :-)
Great! Eaven if i do not have the GH5 but only the G85 and G7.. .. i am admiring the work that you put in! keep it up!
Hi thanks! The Cine-D should work with the other panasonic models as well.
Tested on the Lumix G85 and the Cinelike D version looks good.
Did you shoot with a ND filter? Your shutter rate seems high. What lens do you recommend on a budget if you can only have one? I was looking at the Panasonic 20mm 1.7.
What's your favorite go to color profile besides Vlog and HLG? I personally like Vivid because it creates a colorful image that pops on phones. For serious cinematic work I would use VLog or if I'm being lazy portait.
What's a good cheap audio/microphone option for good wide stereo human ear like sound? Do you recommend a audio recorder or a microphone? I thought about using a USB mic to my phone and the audio out to my camera mic in. USB mics seem to have good audio quality
Love the cine d to rec 709 lut. Just what I needed. what I noticed though when using white balance is that it always tends to go towards a cooler and more magenta look no matter what when using AWB. You mentioned that AWB was quite good but I'm not getting that. I can correct it in post but it's just always slightly more cool and slightly more magenta which is odd. Do you notice this too?
John Harvey the cine-d to rec709 is based on the film lut and that one has that issue. I'm doing a new versoin of the Kit soon and will fix that issue as well. :-) for now just fix it with some extra settings.
Great work! Good to see a small UA-camr starting their journey. I gearing up for my first couple of videos too.
Thanks! Like your videos here when you have uploaded them. :-)
good video
Where do you get that 3d color software?
Hi, to expose in hlg how do you do it?
Hyvia videoita, keep it up! Kiinnostaisi nahda GH5 HDR ominaisuuksia/greidausta myos. BTW - Kuka toi sitaria soittava junnu on? Hyvin vetaa!
Thanks
I would first like to say, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I am truly grateful for the tutorials and your teachings. My question is, can this be done with a Panasonic G85 in CineD? And if so, would you make a video tutorial for it, or can I apply the same method in this video? Once again thank you...
MLCreations I have a colour KIT that seems to work for g85 as well. At least people have said so. I don't have one, so I can't verify, but you can test your self and if it doesn't just ask for a refund :-)
joo.works/colour-kit-gh5
Thank you
Is that video colour corrected? If I'm not wrong I see it very reddish...
Sorry this might be a stupid question but i'm new to this. are you saying you only need to do this once for each camera and then just apply the lut or should you use the colour chart in every video taken as each video would have different exposure?
Matthew B As long as you have good White balance when you shoot and high quality light you should get rather near with the same LUT file. It's independent from exposure. With the software lutcalc you can create luts to correct wb before going into this translation LUT. I should make a video about it soon as well.
I had just purchased your color LUT and wondering if I will still need the color passport for the GH5? Or can I get the great colors with just simple white balancing after using your colors
You don't need the color passport with my LUTs. And I recomend using wb fixing before v-log to rec709 lut.
Nice work on this video Joo ... question is your CineD set to what? all -5's???
I have the cine-D everything at 0. You can reduce sharpness/noise reduction it wont affect the colors.
Joo.Works I probably need to stop reading your comments, as my face hurts from all the facepalming. You're giving out such bad advice here.
Hello Joo, I was thinking about the Atomos Inferno. In my GH5, my setting for the photo style is 'CineLike D' so my question is how will it work on inferno? Will it be same? Or do I have to change the different setting to match between GH5 and Inferno? Regards Andy
The Inferno will record anything that you out put to it. So if you camera is set to cine-d it's outputing cine-d. You should not need to set anything inside inferno. Except the recording resolution and codec ofcourse.
This is great. Thanks :-)
Joo....in CNED (Not VLOG, Don't Have It), you earlier say that White Balance is set to AUTO (for CNED). When you brought out the color card, for White Balance in CNED, you say....to set appropriately. Sun...indoor, etc....NOT AUTO as you said before or.....am I mistaking something ?
Hmm... I wonder what did I mean. It's already a year. :-D but now I would say that set you wb correct if you have the time. In run and gun auto ofter gives you closer result.
His Joo
I take it this is the same for the GH4 or do you have anything that is GH5 specific that can't be applied to the GH4?
the process is the same, but the LUT might not work with GH4, for it has a different sensor and might have different colours. Someday soon, I'll make a GH4 calibration to the Colour correction KIT for the GH5, so you can use that for gh4 as well. This one: joo.works/colour-kit-gh5
some have tested the LUTs with gx85 an g7 and sad that they worked. I have not seen the footge, but the KIT might. In the KIT there is new improved LUT so v-log and cine-d
Like mentioned below, it would be good to see if the cheaper colour card alternatives on ebay are any good.
The gh5 have different rgb profiles on setting. I believe one says adobe and other rgb. Which should we use?
You must mean for stills? And you are refering to sRGB and Adobe RGB. Simple answer. If you post to internet directly from your camera with no post-processing. For example jpgs then choose the sRGB for that's the one browsers use. But if you do post then use Adobe RGB, for it's capture larger variety of colours and then you can capture more. Then you need to convert your images to sRGB before uploading or they will look dull. I'm not sure if the setting matters if you shoot raw. For video it should not make any difference. V-log is it's own dedicated V-gammut (sRGB and Adobe RGB are Gammuts) and other profiles are sRGB anyhow.
Joo.Works the word you are looking for is "gamut".
2:27 - Is blonde, long hair in a ponytail really usual in Finland? :)
Hmm... not really. Just happens to be two of us in one video.
What were your settings on ur gh5 when u were shooting this?
I have almost all of my settings at default all the time. Sharpening migth have been minus somethin,.
downloaded the luts but they show as doc. files not cubes. they dont work in final cut on my mac
Hmm... Someone else had that problem as well. But they had them as txt files. Maybe I need to put them into a zip file. Try again next.
are you on my fb messenger list? I could help you out there.
Does this need to be done with each diffrent scene?
If you are refering to the x-rite target... No you can just watch the next video and download the calibration LUT and use it as your tranlation lut from v-log to rec709. But if you really want to be precise you can (I sometime do) show the x-rite to the camera every in every set-up you want to get corrected color. Ligths, camera, profile.
Joo.Works Thanks just finished watching the second video. Nice tutorial.
this is great. I noticed your shutter speed is way high and its showing in the footage. movement lacks the necessary motion blur. I'm sure with an nd filter this can be fixed. Are you interested in getting nd filters or are you happy as it is? Cheers
I'm lazy when it comes to shooting video and maybe because of that I have come to like the high shutter look. In movies I get almost headaches when the frame is always moving and nothing is sharp. When the frame is panning fast or some other situations I often add fake motion blur when needed in after effects.
For example this old dance video that I made I really like how I can see the shape in movement:
vimeo.com/137219536
I see it too. The vimeo video is well done. I would guess 1/100th to 1/250th shutter speed, which is were I normally shoot at. I wouldn't risk anything abouve 1/1000th for dance or quick movement, unless I'm desperate to get the shot by all means. Cheers.
Connor Gilkinson it is subjective, you're right. However motion blur is an important factor in visual medium and there are industry standards. Ofcourse you can ignore the standards if you wish. I still appreciate the tutorial.
I noticed the numbers '1300', '2000' and '6400' in your viewer during the demo. Are these shutter speeds? Thanks.
I think so.
I often use the shutter to set the exposure and add motion blur in post if needed. I'm braking the rules :-)
You avoid color shift of ND let's say
I just don't like to play with the filter, when I can just roll the shutter all the way to 1/16000s. Lazy me. I personally don't see motion blur to be that important. I add it to pans put for the rest... not often. I like to see the form even in motion. Sometimes in movies I don't like when the camera is shaking and there is no sharp frame in the scene. Why get your self a cinelens and 8k resolution, if it's all going to be cinematic motion blur? ;-) just my oppinnion.
very interesting videos. part two looks really good , sharp and colour wise. i am going to give it a try .. i need to buy a colour checker though ...££££££
what camera do you use?
hi joo. i have a gh5 with leica 12-60mm. your colours remind me of canon ? it will take some time for me to order a colour checker so i printed one out to test your tutorial. it may not work because its a print out but at least i can try the process. i think it would be good to see what light and how you set up for the shoot of part two. it looks very good on my 2k 50" tv ... i watch all youtube through the tv :-)
i filmed a short horror film as a test on my channel if you would like to check it out. I'm no actor so hopefully my next film will be better with real actors. i just made a story from the 'toys' i had in my green screen room :-)
just join my facebook messenger list and download the LUT from my download vault. joo.works/join or send me an email and I'll send it to you: joonas@jooworks.fi
thanks i downloaded it and joined :-)
Is there a PART 2 ?
Dick Osso yes, you should find it from my channel.
Why not get a Macbeth chart for £20 ?
You have link to one that can be thrusted? The point of the chips is that they need to be exact, or the result will be more or less wrong. Some Macbeth charts have the chips in different order even. :-D
Joo.Works Well maybe you could make an interesting comparison video testing the difference better the overpriced Macbeth passport checker and this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122485057062
You normally use AWB on the GH5, madness. It has the worst ever awb I've seen on a camera
Ferhan Khan Photography it does't matter for one can rather acuratelly fix wb in post when shooting log.
Read the other comments, man. This guy hasn't got a clue what he's doing. "Yeah, I don't bother with ND filters. 1/6400 shutter speed is fine! LOLZ!"
Joo.Works no, dumbass, you can't. You're missing it up with RAW, but you probably think they're the same thing.
V-log and V-gamut are a known colour space and it's possible to fix WB almost as well as with RAW photos, but you just can't do that in Davinchi resolve, or premiere, but it's totally possible with right tools. Resolve and premiere do an ok job at it, so it's more than functional to fix slight wb changes. But still with the right tools it's possible to get really accurate WB fixing. There is one example on this page: joo.works/colour-kit-gh5 Scroll down where you see a totally green image, then with the slider you can see how it's fixed to neutral WB. This correction was done with LUT's that I created following numbers, so no creative interpretation included.
Hmm... This conversation might become interesting. Do you have some proof of this or is this just your opinion. I have proof of my argument, tests done with colour checkers and measuring average delta on an offset WB and correct WB.
Hei hack my Gh5 to shoot 3 stops more
Oh! That's a secret you need to pay to know. Sorry.
Buuut... why does everything look so ORANGE? Even your blonde hair looks... kinda orange.
Orange? Intersting... Download the lut and try it yourself. It just might for I didn't pay that much attention to the WB when shooting, or the monitor you looking at the video or it could be the LUT. Test it out your self. Tell me what you think.
I have a professionnal/freshly calibrated monitor, and the skintones look very good. It's quite saturated, but not over the top... simply a very colorful/happy mood. But colorwise, I think it's pretty accurate. Lovely!
