This goes without saying but obviously you need to be using an autofocus lens for this to work

Thanks man :D Me as a GH5 user and UA-camr use to pull focus with the Panasonic image app. It works very good too. I just have to watch on my phone all the times I'm doing it and also see if I'm actually in focus. But your method is great and I've never thought about it. So thanks again :))

2:29 you can do this with monitor app on your smartphone even if your camera doesn’t have that port

Nice trick! I find myself actually using the lumix app with my s5 to do the same thing. But I think it's more convenient to have a remote than waiting for the camera to connect to the app.

Interesting. I usually just use manual focus and I connect my phone/ipad (eveb works with macbook) through the panasonic app. Then I can monitor and control the camera even if I sit at a distance. The app is amazing and gives almost full access to the camera.

Maybe I missed the point. But why not just use the app to control focus, trigger recording and control almost every other major function at the same time. And it's free! Plus you can actually check focus right from your phone. Not as good as a dedicated monitor, but works fine in a pinch.

I personally hate using the app, and if my phone or tablet is dead I'm out of luck. Idk I've been using this method for about a decade now and I prefer it to any app I've used.

I really do love how you’re taking this topic and distilling it down to a super easy hack…Do you mind if I either link to this video from my website, or mention it in my blog post???

@@nigelbarrostoo Thank you! I've spent almost 3 years testing mostly MF lenses on my LUMIX cameras partly because of budget, but partly because of AF issues...Now with this trick I am wondering if I should start testing more AF Panasonic stuff.

This could also be great for real estate photography where you may need to grab more flambient photos (in different parts of a large room) instead of using the app or setting a timer.

    For 30$ that's worth a try

I do something like this for Zoom/streaming, but with a wired remote, out of frame (it has a long, thin cable). No battery to worry about!

Awesome tip and suggestion. I’m going to try this on my eos rp’s shitty 4k auto focus.

Absolutely agree with talking head vids, don't need an autofocus , people don't use f0.95 lenses for those type of shots 😅 and it's hilarious that people use autofocus and it still sometimes fails😂

"When I go far away from my camera, I'm out of focus, right? Now I'm not. 1:00. - Yes you are out of focus. If you were using a Sony, you'd be in focus.

That's incorrect, after I half pressed the shutter remote I got myself in focus again, the shutter remote was the whole point of this video......

At 1:02 Nigel is (deliberately) out of focus then, having half pressed the remote shutter, at 1:07 he is In focus, plain and simple!
