    VERY informational! I've been dealing with IT band/hip issues for 11 months now. My Dr. thought it might be bursitis and injected the hip, which provide relief. I've been using chiropractic, acupuncture and massage therapy which gives temporary relief. I have my first appt with an orthopedic surgeon today to try to get to the bottom of the problem. I had to give up running and hiking hills with my dogs and my hope is to get back to normal activities!

      +Abraxas Hernandez just had this done with a local massage therapist who was into Graston technique or instrument assisted massage therapy. Wow. Made a huge difference in my knee pain. The next day it was mostly not there and has been improving. Night and day difference. If your ITB is tight like this from overuse you have to get this done. It hurt like hell but it was worth it. Incredible release, greater mobility, less pain, and can start exercising soon again. Find someone local by searching for these terms and good luck.

    Is it OK to strength train, (squats and weighted hip trust), while my knee hurts because of ITBS? And would strength training the hips cause the hip flexors to be even more tight hence reversing the benefits of stretching?

    • @prochiropractic
      @prochiropractic  6 років тому

      Training through pain is not a good idea. Pain is your body's way of telling you that there is some sort of imbalance in the system causing tissues to break down. Most likely you have an issue with flexibility or motor control, not strength. A qualified sports chiropractor can help point you in the right direction. Look for someone in your area with CCSP or DACBSP credentials.

    Your videos have been very informative. Thank you. I am confused about the first adjustment you made. Your hands were below her tibia and it looked as if the force was being applied posteriorly, when you mentioned the tibia had shifted posteriorly. Were you focusing on the hip / SI joint or the knee or a combination when you applied the forces?

    I went to therapy for 7 months for knee pain Andes they concluded that it was ITBS. I stopped running in October and have just started running again. Throughout this whole period my it band has not gotten much better. I have been working on strengthening my quads and hamstrings as well as my ab and adductors. Tell me, is it normal to feel a tendon move around on the lateral anterior side of your knee? It's only on my left knee that I feel this so I know it is not normal. It feels as if it is inflamed but my PT didn't seem too worried about it. Again, I have just started running again, but I don't want to increase mileage too much until this is completely better.

    i'm a vball player and i rarely ever stretch. have had problems with my knee for the past couple months until some guy told me it could be my it band. Brought it up to a friend of mine who said he knows a deep tissue massage for it. I don't think i've experienced anything quite as painful

    • @prochiropractic
      @prochiropractic  9 років тому

      Many therapists beat up the IT band trying to get it to release, when it is much easier and more effective to treat the TFL muscle which attaches to the IT band. Try this, you may be much happier! Best, DrJ

    I recently had this done by my PT and it was level 10 pain--like literally felt as bad as being cut---near the knee on the right side and she said she was not pressing hard--what does this mean--on my left there was a huge bump near the knee way more than the rest of the leg--seriously this is the worst pain I've ever felt--I sweat through my clothes and couldn't speak--do I have some sort of condition?

    I have been dealing with this problem for a year and a half now. It started from playing basketball. I have done lots of foam rolling, stretching, strengthening and no improvements. I cant even do leg press without pain in the knee. Is there any hope for me or is this just permanent at this point?

    • @blah8934
      @blah8934 7 років тому +4

      alright so basically and usually its all in the HIPS baby. You gotta hit the hip flexors to fix the issue. This means you need to strengthen the core muscle such as psoas muscles deep inside your abdomen and fix other muscle imbalances. Imbalances such as the abductors not the ADDUCTORS but the inside of your thigh this will pull the outside muscles and stretch them also. Next you want to do the main problem most likely that is causing your tight IT band. That would be the FTL or tensor fascae latae or w/e. This muscle and also your gluteus medius are responsible for the IT band. You need to do two streches for this. One is the PIDGEON yoga stretch for the piriformis muscle. The other one is the cross leg stretch to stretch out that outer quad/IT band/FTL muscle. The cross leg stretch is the most effective one. Keep those trying and don't do too much on the actual tendon itself as the IT band is SUPPOSED to be TIGHT. But the muscle around it are too tight and cause little "leg" room for the IT band to move about. Usually the FTL and Gluteus medius are the culprits for IT band. Strengthen hip muscle and core muscles and stretch them all and eventually you will CURE the IT band. Hope this helps.

    Hi Doctor. I had pain in my knee 4-5 weeks back but couldn't locate it and considered it as a fatigue because of football but after 2 more matches it felt like i had injured my meniscus again of the same knee which healed 3 months back. but after 4 weeks i still feel the pain when i sit down or twist my leg at the lateral side of my knee. Is it possible that i have injured my meniscus because of IT band injury?

    • @prochiropractic

      Yes, it's possible. A proper and thorough evaluation is necessary.

  • @sarak3702
    @sarak3702 8 років тому +6

    Isn't that traumatic for the tendon? I strongly believe that this causes muscle cell necrosis. It's true that it's a fast way to release the pain and the tendon but what about the loss of the muscle tissue? Anyway, stretching the TFL shows good results as well, even though it may take a bit longer to return to your active sport's routine, you should do stretching instead of foam rolling or other aggresive pressure tecnics.

    • @prochiropractic
      @prochiropractic  8 років тому +8

      Hi Sara, great question, BUT actually what we are seeing in the published research is this type of manual therapy causes cell proliferation and not death. This is far more effective than static stretching! Cheers

      Pro Chiropractic that's correct! in a way this technique reminds me of the intratissue percutaneous electrolysis, that it may look that damages tissue but the truth is that makes a neovascular effect and provides great results to the tendinosis or other chronics injuries. • @requemao
