Thanks for watching!
In search of a car, I was comparing Honda and Toyota by test driving, watching reviews, asking advice, but then one evening I test drove a Mazda 3. I was surprised by the interior quality, comfort, and technology. I signed the lease that evening and drove the Mazda 3 home. I'm so happy with my car.
That was my story aswell. I needed a fun comfort car that can be sporty (side option) so I test drove corollas, civics. Then I wanted to try the mazda and I instantly fell in love. The corollas and civics are not comfy especially the corolla. Rough riding seats are kinda ok but that mazda 3 was super nice feeling to me
Mazda deserves more popularity, it really is an underrated brand these days.
Agree, Mazda have made good vehicles back 20,30 year, I have owned and driven other Mazda before. Don’t think Mazda promote as much as needed as other brand do.
Coworker got rid of it because it sounded like a tin can and the speakers were trash.
@@BartlettRacing66 yr not wrong, but vw audio system is worse. Chrysler knows how to make an audio system, I just test drove a 2011 Ram 1500 and it sounded better than my 2016 Mazda 2.
It’s their marketing team, they don’t advertise and promote enough, their latest products are amazing tho
@@mustasheolll2020 Could have been a base model stereo, but when i rode in it it was definitely terrible, like only one speaker was working.
I really like how respectful you are by tapping your shoes together before getting into the car. I need to learn to start doing that
I notice that too but maybe because I do it too. I am not sure how it started though. :)
All Japanese car owners do that, I've made it a habit ever since I got my Civic, haha.
It's usually a sign of living in a snowy climate. We do it to bring less snow and salt in, so it becomes an all year habit.
but girls hate when people does this though
@@jake9854 how did you turn this into a gender thing lmfao
You have one of the very few channels that does good job in explaining the driving feel. Recently, all the other review channels just pop up videos simply walking through the features in 90% of the video, and talk very little about driving feel.
Yes, you're simply the best
Mazda has been absolutely killing it in my opinion. My dad just picked up the 2022 turbo AWD cx-30 in its premium spec and I’m in love with it. The stock power and torque is unreal + engine note + the interior and overall design, I think they aced it!
Drives fast in a straight line but boring when Pushed.
Mazda is known for its handling huh?
Mazda cars are solid. They deserve credit but why does everyone need to oversell shit? since when is 250hp "unreal"?

Funny thing is that I don’t live too far from a Mazda dealership. Maybe I should get one.
You're one of the few reviewers that actually took the time to go over the '22 despite the '21 similarities, and it's much appreciated. Mine should be arriving in June; can't wait!
Congrats!

@@Bursar60 tail lights and turn signals ever so slightly reworked/redesigned. They also moved one USB input from the center stack into the center armrest compartment next to the other. Other than that, they're basically identical.
At this point in life ive learned what matters most is how fun any given vehicle is to drive, and even the standard Mazda 3 is a HIGHLY underrated car. Even with what would be considered an outdated suspension setup it still feels graceful and gentle. Coming from Honda, which is another underrated and very capable brand, the Mazda seems more friendly and forgiving especially for newer drivers, its a great product right out of the box and with that I give Mazda my deepest gratitude!
Corey, the Big Three in Japan are Toyota, Honda and Nissan, and this is why Mazda is underrated.
Mazda really did nail it with the 3 ... A symbol of automotive perfection both aesthetically and functionally!!

It's a really ugly car.
@@alexeivoloshin5984 Ok , we will tell the design team to copy the designs of the corolla and the civic....this should make the design prettier !!!!....Mazda design is not only one of the best....but it also requires high precision manufacturing ability and engineering to execute ....No other manufacturer can make headlamps that small and thin....the body panels are super complex to press and require complex moulds because they have complex curvatures that bend lights as a lens....Mazda design is an engineering masterpiece....This is a fact driven from the manufacturing requirements to execute such design and not by how it looks !
Dude. I have the Mazda3 Turbo and the Miata RF, both in steel grey metallic. And you’re right. It is the perfect garage.
damn you rly out here living w/my dream garage 😭😭😭
LOL I have a st nd2 and looking at getting one of these too. When he said that I was dying
I actually really like that it sets the parking brake automatically. Even on a neutral slope, while the car is off it takes away pressure from brake joints and other parts which means less wear for the life of your brakes. I love Mazda, I have a 2014 and am just barely breaking 70k miles on it (I was in the military, so I didn't drive it much). I drove it cross-country back home when I discharged with absolutely no problems. I bought the car in 2018 at 61k miles so the previous owner did drive it quite a bit but took really great care of it! I'm honestly thinking of trading this one in for a more modern Mazda because they are such reliable and sleek cars.
Get some cr505 and expect this Mfka to get to 300k miles running like a top. If you replace trans fluid every 75k miles at worse, you can reach 300k miles without replacing the engine or tranny. And the stock suspension is GREAT, better then more upscale foreign competitors. Only issue is if you go up in power with the new Mazdas, they really crapped out on the rear suspension, mind you it's not bad, but it's a hard ceiling for handling with increased power.
The skyactive is goated as hell.
what? brake joints? fundamental misunderstanding of how a car works.
Loving my 2022 CX-5 premium. First time having a mazda and understand the hype now. Classy interior and just high quality all around
The crappy dials look weird now though especially in a Turbo car.
The exterior, especially the sedan and the interior of this gen Mazda 3 is truly truly a masterpiece design. If I'd be buying a car, it'd be a no brainer for me. Kudos to the designers in Japan. Beautiful!

I really like the place this car is at. Especially with current gas prices I can appreciate how this is a car you can have fun with without sacrificing some organs to maintain. I dont think any other car right now is in such a good sweet spot between sporty and reliable/comfortable.
sadly the mazda3 fuel consumption is VERY BAD for the small amount of power and the small size it has. I wish they wouldve changed to a better transmission..
Just the review I was after. I have built my anticipation to a bit of a frenzy watching every video about the mazda 3 since I ordered it in May. I have just one more week before I recieve my 'baby'. First ever brand new car for me. I can't wait. Thanks for this video.
Congrats! What trim did you get?
I bought Preffered hatchback and it’s really good. So smooth and handles very well. This car is 10/10 for me.
I wasn’t paying attention for a while and when you did the audio test it was so clean and crisp that I thought it was edited in.
I tried the Mazda 3 Sport, the A class, the Audi A3, the Honda Civic Sport, Acura TLX, Golf GTI, Jetta GLI, Lexus IS 300 and by far the Mazda 3 Sport was the best car I drove. It wasn't even the Turbo version. It felt much more comfortable and fun to drive than the competitors, with the exception of the GTI being very fun to drive as well. I am going to order a Turbo in White with Red interior on monday.
Not enough people getting the red interior! Nice choice. It's a subdued red, perfect I think.
Thanks. I just ordered it. Snowflake White Pearl with Garnet red interior, with aero kit!
Just bought my 22 premium AWD non turbo and I couldn’t be happier. Perfect daily driver.
Love this car. I’ve had mine a year and it’s an incredible value. Really offers everything one would need.
It's really nice but lacks a manual and the rear suspension is as archaic as it gets. More of a Buick competitor than a hot hatch.

The Mazda 3 Sedan does come with an AWD 2.5L turbo actually. Just an FYI for anyone in the market for a Mazda 3 who might not like the look of the hatchback.
In the market for a new car and the Mazda3 has caught my eye. Definitely prefer the sedan style to the hatchback, so great to know there's an AWD variant. I may have to make this my next test drive. Anything I should know about the Mazda 3 in general? (Good or bad, or even comparable alternatives?)
Thanks for clarifying the sedan turbo availability. That's what I thought. I prefer the sedan.
@@XEpicJX I actually just had the Mazda 3 2.5L turbo premium plus package factory ordered around a month ago, so I did quite a bit of research (yuotube videos, reddit forums lol) on the pros and cons. I think you wont have too hard of a time finding out what people like about this car, but personally I had a very hard time finding cons, so I made a list of some comments that reviewers and random individuals on the internet have made about it, but keep in mind everyone has their own taste so a downside for one person might be an elite feature for someone else - -
-
bumpy drive (downgraded suspension from the last iteration of mazda 3), uncomfortable on long drives due to lack of soft spots to rest arms (though anyone who steps in the car comments on how soft and high quality the leather is), highest horse power comes from higher grade fuel (this is just a fact but important to keep in mind), back sitting space minimal w/ no technology or vents, no touchscreen for apple CarPlay, a lot of excessive beeping in the car when you enter/seatbelt warnings, etc (if you get pissed off over beeping probably will want to test drive), no fog lights, poor cruise control software, un-intuitive/poorly designed steering wheel buttons, overpriced for the performance, very dark interior during nighttime
@@sakshammohan98 This was actually super helpful! I appreciate the cons list, it is easy to hear what people like so having a list of the annoyances is super cool.
The other sedan style vehicle that has caught my eye is the new Kia Forte. It's competitively priced and seems to offer a ton of features others charge more for. The new interior design in my opinion is just below the Mazda 3.
Having had just done research to make your pick, were there any other similar sized cars that were runner-ups?
Thank you!
@@XEpicJX i bought the mazda3 turbo 2021 6 months ago and have loved it. Its the perfect car for me. Imo sedan looks significantly better.
You re lucky to have an engine of 2.5 turbo on this car...I live in France I have exactly the same car, issued from the same factory in Salamanca,Mexico,BUT the main difference is that I only have a 2 liters without turbo with 122 HP.....God bless America
I'm going on a year with my '21 Premium Plus and love it. I have only put 87 octane in the car and that provides more than sufficient power. This summer I may treat it to some 93 octane and see how much quicker it seems. As you stated, the best headlights I've ever had on a car. On the backroads of my Wisconsin and Northern Michigan trip the auto high beams were amazing.
I would love to put some nice sticky summer tires on it but can't justify new tires until I wear the originals down a little. Oh, I also put winters on in the winter and it was very capable.
:D
The all seasons that come on these are garbage! Can't wait to change mine to some Michellins
Try the premium octane fuel, and you would notice the difference, both power wise and mileage! Plus you also get a smoother ride with premium. I was using regular for 6 months and from last month i started using premium. Lot cheaper at costco.
Why is the octane so low in the us? Is it noticeably slower? Here in Europe (Germany) you can only get 95, 98 or 100 octane. Is it because we use different oil?
@@notjustakill It's probably the same true octane, it's just calculated differently.
I really can't think of another car this nice at that MSRP. Mazda really is a great car manufacturer. I'm still rocking my 2012 Mazda 3, but this will definitely be a strong contender when it's time to upgrade. Just really wish they'd bring back a true Mazdaspeed3 though, I'd be sold instantly if they did.
this car is so amazing. worth being a dream car honestly
7:14 if that exhaust note isn’t fake or piped in then that truly is impressive
real late response but i just got the 2024 mazda 3 hatch s ses and its not the turbo but the sound is incredible no fake noise just all engine even the exhaust notes are great
I've had my leased 2021 3Turbo Hatch for 10 months and 10k miles. I agree with your review of the vehicle. I was shocked with the level of refinement, ride, power handling, shift quality from the trans and quietness...AT FIRST.
Unfortunately, these cars truly have very little sound deadening, particularly around the wheel wells. By 5K I was noticing a notable increase in the highway road noise. By 10K the road noise was terrible. Like my 2020 Mazda 6 Grand Touring, the car came from the factory misaligned enough to cause tire feathering and highway straight-line stability issues. After an alignment and another rotate the noise is now acceptable. The real test came during the winter when I took it out in a rare snowfall here in Charlotte, NC and was SHOCKED at the extremely loud noise of the road slush banging on the wheel wells. I worked as a QC tech at a dealership for years and drove all makes of cars all day long and in the snow and rain also. I've NEVER experienced the amount of noise coming from a car while driving through slush or heavy rain like this car makes. My point being, as long as the tires are perfect or near perfect, it is quiet. As soon as those tires start to wear unevenly or you have to drive through heavy slush or rain, there is NOTHING to mute the noise.
The 2nd negative I'm seeing is suspension damping degradation. This car now rides much different than it did when it was new. Gone is that smooth, fluid well damped feel, replaced with a lumpiness that suggests that the gas pressurization in the struts has since failed.
It's still VERY fun to drive around town. But if you place great importance on quietness and greater longevity in regards to ride quality, a more premium brand may be a better choice.
Oh, and with the recent increase of gas prices I'm no longer using Premium gas and the difference in seat of the pants feel is negligible. The reason being, the increase in HP and torque do not occur until after, I believe, 4800 RPMS or so. Unless you're really winding this thing out, and it's really not THAT kind of an engine, you're not going to feel any difference in power.
i just hit my 1 year of having my Mazda 3 2021 hatchback. love the car and everything. great for daily driving only hope that gas goes down haha. added some mods to it and still adding. your review made me buy it so thank you!

Finally a reviewer that doesn't think infotainment systems should all be touchscreen, like other reviewers *cough* Doug *cough*. Practicality wise unless you live in an area where roads are smooth, a touchscreen is just a royal pain in the butt.
A proper car with no compromise. Very lovely and worth your dollar
Very informative video. I have a 2019 3sedan, and thought about trading in for the 2021 turbo but ended up buying a 2021 CX5 Reserve turbo which I love. Reason I didn't get rid of my 3 is because it's AWD, and I recently drove from Pa to Fl and squeezed out 37.7 MPG. With these high gas prices I only filled up 3 x's going down to Fl and 3 x's coming back. 1100 miles each way. One thing I like that you were honest about is the interior room and the car in general. Most videos I've watched in the past 2 yrs has ppl that are over 6' trying to squeeze in the back seats, then saying it's too tight or telling you it's not that fast because it can't beat a BMW M2 from 0 - 60 for crying out loud. The car is what it is and you explained it well..
I own the 2020 hatch in white with red seats. I love this car. 4 years later it still turns my head, and the interior is unmatched.
Chris, Do you remember when Mazda was a little less 'premium' but still famous for their class leading manual transmissions and no compromise suspensions? 😉
It really wasn’t that long ago, either. The first generation of SkyActiv cars hit the bullseye; they were gorgeous, they were reliable, they had excellent build quality and were unapologetic about their “Zoom-Zoom” qualities.
Such a shame that Mazda abandoned that formula after only one product cycle.
@@drivedb7 they weren't really reliable
The third gen Mazda 3 was exactly that: fun, engaging, lightweight, slightly less premium, reliable, and somewhat practical.

I love my Mazda 3 hatch, had it for 2 years already put 35k miles on it..up in the Catskills there’s a lot of windy roads and let me say having this car is a real treat..super nimble I mean very little to no body role, lightweight, throttle response is good enough, and the awd is definitely helpful giving the car that extra push coming out of corners..It’s cheaper than a golf r the sti and stinger etc..and it’s priced the same as an Si or gti/gli or any of the new Hyundais which are all FWD(not that awd is better than fwd just more convenient to me) I think it’s a proper tuner car especially with the 2.5 4 cyl(which sounds amazing) I think it will fit right in as soon as they start coming out with some after market parts for it lol
Stinger? This isn’t in the same universe as a stinger.
Great work Topher, I love your reviews. You helped persuade me to buy this car.

Hands down my favorite vehicle I've owned & driven. It's a great daily driver with plenty of power for the average person to have some fun. Drifting in the snow is super fun, too.
Drifting in the snow was the first thing I did when I got my 2023 xD
This is my car exactly (color too), and everything you said about the vehicle and about me as a buyer are spot-on. I love this thing.
I test drove a base model Mazda 3 a coupe of days ago (a new one) and gotta say I was pleased. My current 16 Mazda 2 I’ve been putting a lot of money into and I might get a new Mazda 3 when the next Gen comes out.
My Mazda3 has been the primary family car (even for 8-hour road trips) for a good five years or so. I love it, and it's nowhere near as nice as this puppy in the video. Looks great!
I love Mazda’s new design language
I have 2007 Mazda 3 MPS, 2.3 Turbo and it's MAJESTIC. 260HP does the job, of course only with 98 fuel, recommended by the manufacturer. I think I will stay with this brand for quite a while, knowing that they still make turbocharged engines. One day I will buy this new model too.
Your reviews are the bees knees sir! Sweet vehicle, love Mazda and what they’re doing with their brand
I fcking love the simplified interiors. Very stylish and doesn't have the ford/GM plastic look.
picking between this and the 2022 GTI was a really hard choice. I ended up with the GTI, the main reasons were how the interior felt a little less cramped (I'm 6'2"), the visibility was better, and the handling was sharper and more enjoyable on the road. I think I would have been happy with this though, I just wish Mazda had given it better brakes.
For me a GTI is never the wrong choice, there are better cars in specific areas but as a car there is nothing better than a Golf
I was facing the same choice as you and i chose GTI as well
Also same, although went from a 2018 Mazda 3 to a 2017 GTI. Only thing I miss is the seats and infotainment, I felt Mazdas was far better than the gti

Just took delivery of my 22 turbo hatch last month. Something I noticed over the test drive in the 21 I did was the parking brake releases automatically now when you shift to drive or reverse. You don't have to tap the gas first and look weird sometimes in the parking lot. Subtle improvement but appreciated.
We lost the full red interior in Canada now, though. Red seats, and black with red stitching on the dash and doors. Sad about that :( Also the rear indicators changed to a cross, I preferred the 4 little LEDS but eh not a big deal.
Another thing is that the indicators do the slow fade like the cx30. Honestly prefer the look of the ones on my 21 turbo sedan, to me it looks more premium with the sharp on and off, but its personal preference I guess.

The new Honda civic took notes on the Mazda 3 release in 2019. They adopted similar minimalistic but premium looking interior, also that long front dash trim extending from the driver to passenger is 100% copied from the mazda 3. I happily own the 2019 mazda 3 in polymetal red with the full red leather upholstery, it’s definitely premium feeling. To think this was released in 2019 tells me that mazda was definitely ahead of the game. Many brands took note of mazda in the 2021-2022 years.
Mazda is making really good, underrated cars honestly. I just wish they move on from a 6-speed automatic, and use some other transmissions. Although Mazda's 6-speed is a good transmission.
6 Speed Automatic is fine. No need to complicate any more.
They are in their upcoming crossovers. The new CX-60 will be the first to use the new 8-speed automatic transmission.
@@michaeldavila8627 Yeah, I think 6 gears are a perfect amount of gears ~ It's a good middle ground~
The 6 speed is fine. It's quick to downshift especially compared to some other transmissions I've driven that have more gears but the tuning was just all wrong. But then again my car is a 2018 so maybe they changed the tuning of the transmission in the newer cars.
I like Mazda’s 6-speed auto it’s never gear searching
I really like the Mazda3 Turbo, I currently drive a 2016 Accord but my Mom has a 2012 Mazda3 it’s a really nice car and I like how fun it is to drive around town and it’s practical too.
My first car was a 2004 Mazda 6S with the 3.0 V6 and the 5 Speed Automatic. You would not believe how amazingly direct and full of feedback its steering was unless you drove it. Excellent driving car considering it was a Camry-competitor.
I had a 2008 Mazda 6 with a 2.3 L four-cylinder and it was an incredibly fun to drive
Those were great except the turning radius was AWFUL and the ride was super stiff. I had a 2004 6i with a manual and while it was fun, the road noise became tiring on the highway. I constantly had to do bushings on that front double wishbone suspension. They’d make a racket when the temp warmed up outside.
@@pascutia Agree with all this. Also, reliability on that Ford V6 was horrendous. We traded the car in with about 130,000 miles for $750 because it was in horrible condition. Oh well.
@@wl2486 Yup, also I don’t know where you’re located, but I’m in Michigan and these cars rusted like CRAZY. Whenever I see one that didn’t have its rockers and fenders turned to dust I always admire it. That Ford 3.0 V6 got better over the years. We had one in a 2011 Fusion that went 150k miles with no issues. Did you have issues with yours?
@@pascutia tons of issues with both the engine and the transmission. As I said though, it was my first car, and I beat the living snot out of it, taking it up to top speed all the time. Not proud of it, but 17 year old brains do stupid things I guess. And this was in New Jersey so I’m sure we had similar problems
I got a 2021 Mazda 3 Premium FWD Sedan based on your video (among others) and I love it!
This interior looks cooler to me than a benz imho, not doing too much, not a night club inside.
Love Mazda! The Bose Sound System is amazing.
'20 2.5NA manual premium here, I give it a solid 9/10. I agree it could be a hotter, but warm hatch is fine.Tthe suspension could be better too. I can't complain about anything else except a VERY creaky sunglasses compartment, when I open that thing is sounds like a door in a 300 year old haunted house.
9:28 that settles it. I own an NA miata and today I went to the LA auto show and sat in one of these and immediately fell in love. I' m definitely going to try to get my hands on one of these. Shame the new ones don't come in manual anymore.
As a GTI owner who is really disappointed with the styling and interior of the Mk8, this car is at the top of my future shopping list, but I'm curious to see how the new Acura Integra compares against it. There aren't many other $35K premium hatchbacks to choose from.
The new corolla GR if you're into manual
Advantage here is AWD. GTi and Integra are front only.
Hyundai N cars might be up your alley. Mazda is classier no doubt but we don't have truly hot hatches.
@@slappadabass1977 isn’t the new integra supposed to come with their SH AWD?
@@Mushroomancer It's not unfortunately. FWD only. They may announce another version in a year or two but for now you have to buy a TLX if you want AWD. And personally I'd probably just get a TLX over the Integra anyway. Far too similar and you get a lot more car for not too much more money.
The Elantra N is amazing too. It has a bigger turbo than the veloster N and i have heard that with the turbo bolted to the veloster N with a tune it made over 350 whp. The Elantra N is a beast. I have heard people are getting 4.8 0-60 mph and 5.1 0-100 kph
I have a 2021 base hatch, the only thing holding it back from being a perfect car would be various obnoxious interior rattles, I have under 9k miles in the last 5 months and there are rattles under the dashboard, in the door trim, and in the seats...
warranty it! no way it should be doing that after so few miles
@@Clove_Parma lol
As a Miata owner who is considering one of these, you hit it right on the money with that comment lol
Needs a rotary and a manual but that's a dream. It looks really good and sounds great with a quality aftermarket exhaust
such a great car, so underrated
Stopped by Mazda dealer the other day and sat in this car. Liked everything. The big miss? It is begging for a 6 speed manual transmission. That's the missing ingredient to make this a 5-star car and a true "hot hatch." A paddle-shifting automatic is actually a deal killer for me. I own the "smiling" Mazda 3 hatch with a 6 speed. Mazda needs to mate a 6 speed with the AWD (with a sunroof) and beat Toyota GR Corolla to the market. Maybe in 2023, before the electrics take over, and destroy all the fun.
Even if they add a manual it's still going to have a Chevy Cavalier caliber rear suspension. Pretty sad.
Men this interior is art for me! perfection
Got my 21 Premium in July. Still madly in love with it. Didn't want the turbo due to worse mpg and smaller fuel tank. And the NA 2.5 actually feels surprisingly good, despite 0-60 times.
sounds like you made a more reasonable choice
Got a 21 NA as well, plenty of zoom...but I am a sucker for more zoom so the turbo is more my speed but i'm still happy with it.
2021 3PP... the turbo is incredible.
The foot tap before getting in *chefs kiss* i thought i was the only one. No matter what vehicle i get in.
I’ve got a manual one of these 3 hatches with the base 2.5, and I thought about one of these Turbo models but decided against it for a couple reasons. As you said in your last 3 Turbo review, manual is definitely more fun and it’s also important to support the manual new nowadays. But also, as aware as I am that Mazda’s a small automaker with limited resources, I do think they missed an opportunity here to make this more of a hotter hatch. That’s not to say I wish it was a Veloster N/Civic Type R kind of rival. I think this could have been a great, say, AWD Japanese GTI in the balance between luxury/comfort amenities and driving enjoyment. This leans a little too much toward the former for me. And think about what happened the last time Mazda offered a quality, reliable, Japanese interpretation of a fun, sporty European icon. That recipe sound familiar???😏 I really think that could have been a hit for them, and I confess myself a little bit sad at this premium comfort/luxury angle Mazda’s taking and all the edges they’re smoothing over. We’ll see how it works out for them ultimately, though.
Are you not happy with your 2.5 Mazda 3 manual transmission purchase because of all the things you mentioned above?
@@NaijaBull Oh no, not at all, I’ve been very happy with it! Been a great, fun daily driver with the stick. Lighter than the Turbo models and the power is more usable on the street. Definitely my preference over, say, a Civic or one of the Hyundai/Kia compacts with the 1.5/1.6T. Much prefer the NA sound and power delivery of the base 2.5 and I was willing to trade some handling and suspension refinement for that. With the Turbo versions, though, just wish Mazda had made more supporting changes to back up the extra power to make it more of the Japanese GTI I referred to.

I like that on my 2018, I can hold the home button by the command knob and it will switch from CarPlay to Mazda native for sound adjustment, then hold it again and back to CarPlay. The Mazda interface is great in 2018 and only better after that
I wish Mazda would build a hot 3 with a manual or at least a razor sharp DCT
I have the 2022 turbo carbon model. Best purchase i have ever made, they are so rare to see on the road!
I wish everyone would kick off their feet the way you do. I thought I was the only one that did it this way.
To people buying a Mazda, if you get one in soul red I highly encourage you to get the front end clear bra’d; front bumper, front fender, hood, etc. otherwise you’ll be getting a ton of paint chips.
Same with the new platinum quartz metallic. I got less than 5000 miles on mine and there are already multiple paint chips.
Premium fuel = 250hp/320tq
Regular fuel= 227hp/310tq
Opinion: As my daily driver this is more than I'll ever need. Those blindspots take getting used to though... be careful. Design wise I really really like it. If you can get the aero package it really completes the look. Right now I'm in the honeymoon phase so well see how that changes down the road but I'm really digging it 👍
Great review. You hit on exactly why I didn’t buy this car. Owned two mazdaspeed3 cars and those where fantastic to drive. Mazda didn’t do enough to make this car an enthusiast car. Currently drive a Kona N coming from a Veloster N. Love N cars so much.
I don’t think they were even aiming for “enthusiast car”.
@@sheputthelimeinthecoconut629 I don’t think so either and that’s the sad part. Mazda has changed quite a bit over the years.
@@drumflip1253 it’s disappointing, but I think they are following the money. Without underwriting by Ford, they need to find a
Financially stable place.
(EXCITED CLAPPING) I have one of these and I'm always eager for fresh opinions on this car. I wish I could have gotten this color, but then you lose the red interior and someday I hope to have a Soul Red ND Miata. I do miss the manual, but it's still a great car as optioned.
Mazda is making a major comeback. Some of the most competitive looks and colors in the segment. All I can say is, they're escaping their days restricted by Ford. After Ford sold all of their Mazda shares in 2015, they let loose in terms of overall reliability, looks, and innovativeness. The proof is written all over their lineup.
I had a 2001 Mazda Tribute, a rebadged Ford Escape. It had so many problems, but at least it drove haha. These newer Mazdas give a FANTASTIC FIRST IMPRESSION, I have no doubt that these will last a lot longer than the older vehicles. The first time in years that I've contemplated purchasing another Mazda.
Man, does that interior ooze class!
I've been test-driving a lot of Mazda 3s lately and I honestly think the turbo is overkill unless you plan on taking it to a track. Even a 2021 FWD 2.5 zips just fine. I settled for a AWD 2023 Carbon Edition with the 191 hp and I've never wished it had more pop. It's a dream.
If only it had multi-link. I think that alone would take it over the top. The main reason I like it is that it's an actually compact compact car, but I'd happily take an inch or two increase if it meant fixing the one big weakness.
The cheap crappy suspension is why i would never buy one. In the premium Turbo models it should have adaptive dampers as it's really bad on rougher surfaces.
@@DEVILTAZ35 Seriously agree with you. They are asking people to pay in the $30k-$35k range for a non-luxury compact car. The torsion beam rear, no matter how many people tout it up, is nowhere near as good as a strut or multi-link independent rear suspension. My AWD Mitsubishi Lancer that had an MSRP of $23k had independent strut rear suspension for crying out loud.
Even the Dodge Neon had a multi-link rear suspension. It's so freaking sad what Mazda has done to the 3. "Look what they did to my boy".
I love your car reviews. The mic you use sounds amazing.
Two things that keep me away from owning this vehicle. The tiny gas tank and the torsion beam in the back. I had a 2.5 NA Premium as a loaner while my Miata was getting serviced. Fell in love with the quality interior and the looks are top notch. Went over some speed bumps near where I live and the tail-end bounced around so much to the point it was jarring. Completely turned me off when I experienced that. Hoping future product goes back to independent rear suspensions but I'm not holding my breathe.
had the exact same experience driving the NA. such a shame
I’ve always loved Mazda’s and their designs. What made me not get one was their partnership with Ford. I don’t know anyone who drives Mazda, but I really want to know how the reliability is and overall ownership.
Family has always had Toyota and Honda. I’ve had 2 Honda Civics and had absolutely 0 problems. Thinking about updating in a year or two. Not sure if I should stay loyal to Honda or take a chance on Mazda.
5 months late but if you’re still shopping then here’s my take from the research i’ve done that actually resulted in me getting a Mazda 3 Turbo AWD
from what I know, their partnership with Ford is over and instead they’ve taken up a partnership with Toyota, which helps them with their transmissions I believe. from what i’ve researched with owners both in real life that i’ve met and from those online and reviewers, the skyactiv engine is a very reliable engine that squeezes a lot of power for being a 4 cylinder, and this goes for both the naturally aspirated at around 180hp and the turbo version with 223hp - 250hp. the reason i personally wanted the turbo was because it definitely offers you the extra and instant power delivery when you press the accelerator, whereas the naturally aspirated one delayed a slight bit before picking up. that isn’t an issue for most people though i imagine, but you should go for whatever you feel comfortable with in that regard. the transmission is incredibly smooth, almost unnoticeable shifts while driving and hardly bumps when switching to drive or reverse. seats are comfy both in the front and back, though the backseats may lack legroom for those who are taller depending on how far back the front seats are. the hatchback version has a good bit of space in the back as you can see from the video, and the sedan (which i own) has a decent bit as well, definitely enough for groceries and travel as long as you’re not bringing a lot of stuff. i’d honestly say that if you’re looking for a Toyota or a Honda but want something that might end up being a bit cheaper for getting more stuff, you should definitely consider a Mazda since i’d consider it a direct competitor to them at the price.
Love the car. If they offered this in manual I'd have gone for this which is why i got the Elantra N instead. Comparison between these 2 cars would be nice.
Yeah but the automatic is one of the nicest i have ever driven and u can actually use the paddle shifters in sport mode , plus the awd is super capable even in 6-8 inches of snow
Thanks for the nicely done review! I would really love to see this car in germany. Unfortunately Mazda doesnt sell the Mazda3 with 2.5 Turbo here.
Yeah, this Engine with the awesome manual drive would be heaven for germany 🥺
If mazda did some suspension work and have it a 6MT it would compete so well with gr corolla
6MT variants of this car do exist but since I am from Europe I don't know if USA versions are only auto or you also can chose
@@MarkoVuckovic32 in America the non turbo model had a 6MT option but not the turbo sadly. Mazda doesn't want to do it because not many people will buy
@@A_guan 80% of WRXes sold are Manual. If Mazda built the 3 Turbo with a manual (and fixed the rear suspension) they would have sold a crap ton. Instead they pushed potential 3 buyers to other cars. I've owned two Mazda 3s (one being a Mazdaspeed) and I would never pick a current 3 over it's competitors for those reasons. If I wanted a small Buick then yeah, the 3 might be an option.
