The pieces are spreading out because you left the backup cloner active, so dynamics was being processing for all pieces (the reason of the slowdown). When you hide a procedural object like a cloner, it dont disable, only hides. The green tick is for disable it.
The best practice i think is to use incremental saves, or isolated layers for backups objects.
Another good tip is to remove all the dynamic tags for all objets and put a single rigid body tag to the cloner group and apply to all children in the properties of the tag. Is faster and easier to manage.

Nice tut, but to save you a lot of time and keep it procedural you can set "Fix texture = Straight" in your cloner options and use other projection mode in the texture like flat or cubic and you are done (:. This way you don't need to make the cloner editable = Better way. I hope it helps! Thanks for all your tuts! they are amazing!

Okay so basically I got an upgrade for this tutorial ;)
Bake all the simulations after converting the Cloner and You just got Yourself a consistent dynamics which don't break everytime You go to frame 1 and try to do something.
So the steps would go as follows:
    1. Convert the cloner to editable after having good amount of objects.
    2. "Bake" all the dynamics to cache
    2. Find the frame You want the logo to be fully exposed
    3. "Bake in the logo" on the objects

I am stuck, I have balls with material applied to it. deleting UV tag will remove that texture from my ball and then generating UV cordinate will applied both texture and the logo to the whole scene :/

i'm trying to do with cinema r20 and octane render, but i'm getting a wierd issue: when i generate the UVW coordinates and i render it, the pieces fall in a total different position, in a way that my log is unrecognizable! what am i doing wrong?

Awesome trick! Even if it is logic when seeing it and yes that tag has always had me wondering what the heck it's all about and how to use it in a concrete technique. Thanks for pulling out another owl in the bag :)

I wish I saw this months ago. I was trying to figure out how to get a single video to play on a cloned video wall, have them rotate and have a second single video playing on the opposite side of the clones. This is (almost exactly) what the doctor ordered. It's not perfect, I tried it and managed to get the videos on each side of the panels but the videos aren't following the rotation correctly. Obviously camera mapping wasn't meant for this. It works for me! Thanks Nick, even if this is an old tut!

Once you've got a dynamic simulation that you like, isnt it possible to just bake them in? so that everytime you hit play the dynamics dont change?

To everyone suffering with the final rendered version looking different to the preview version, you need to bake your physics in the cache before rendering!

For those who are struggling with an object made out of multiple objects falling into pieces: Select all the object, right-click, connect objects. after that, take the old group out of the cloner and put the new single object into that. (I hope it's clear enough, I'm not a native English speaker :)

Great tutorial. All is going great right up until the point where i do a test render to check dynamics. I have the same animation but without the alignment of the logo I'm using??? Despite playing the animation in the main window, where everything is aligned perfectly?? Any ideas?? Some what of a newbie! Loving the tutorials though!!! Keep them coming!!

Guys what about the compositing Part when we make a secondary animation to the camera? i mean if you take the camera into the after effects, Is that null still drive the camera or it will convert that secondary animation into Key frames. Please make a tutorial or clarification about that too....

My tags don't copy when I hit C. And when I Generate UVW tag, it only applies it to the first piece and the editable ones are greyed out from the Generate UVW tag command.

Followed along, I have everything set up right, the logo is projecting where I want it, when I want it, yet when I go to render a frame (that shows the logo projected in the preview) it will render that frame but totally omits the projected image. What am I messing up. Preview looks perfect, it animates perfectly when I press play in the preview animation, but rendering any frame as a test just shows the squares....

For some reason, I have a logo in a .psd format, but despite following the steps, the projection of that single logo is tiled...meaning you start to see the logo repeat on other tiles...I have toggled just about every option and can't figure out how to keep the logo from just tiling and repeating across all the tiles.

I tagged the cloner as rigid and floor to collider but the clones of chips are falling like a collective box, not like falling to the floor and spreading like it should.

Is anyone having a problem with the exported render? In the c4d viewport the UV tags line up perfectly but when I render the comp and I view the final render in the picture view window the UV mapping is all messed up. Must be something wrong with my render settings but it seems super weird to see 1 thing in the editor window and a totally different thing in the picture viewer
