Adam Gilchrist to me is the most selfless cricketer I have ever seen.
He had a chance to play 100 consecutive test matches but retired after 96 and could have scored 10k but ended up with 9600 + ODI runs. He could have easily taken a single to score 150 in a WC final.
It was just one drop catch of Laxman in 07/08 test series which prompted him to retire from International Cricket.
Aussies always have some selfless cricketer. In current era they have Maxwell. Earlier Gilly Martyn

@@ULTRA-ENTERTAINER99, yes it was a humbling experience for team India but it's again a trauma that out team lost another WC, and it's probably the last WC that Virat and Rohit will play together. Why does our team always choke in important matches like sf and finals. And yes, cricket is over life, I am a domestic batsmen for my district kamrup and I know the pain losing in finals when you gave your 100 %. I scored 70(56) in the finals but our team choked. And it doesn't matter whether it's 6 months or 6 years, trauma is trauma.

From 1999 to 2007 Australia didn't lose a world cup match, they lost to Pakistan in 1999 group game and then 2011 they lost to Pakistan in group game.
They completely dominated 2003 and 2007 tournaments and didn't look remotely challenged or close to losing a match.
Oh no they were challenged a couple of times... They really had to grind out a victory out of those matches... 2003 wasn't as dominant as it was in 2007... 2007 campaign was beastly

In this match ( final ) Grilchrist struggled lot against Muralitharan . He was quite helpless in this match , unable to face Muralitharan s balls.muralitharan appealed for two LBW s.But umpire steve bucknor did not give them out.Those balls were actually headed for the wicket.This is the video

This is one of the most dissapointing WC finals. Gilchrists inning was the only great thing about it. The 2nd SL inning was a rain induced mess with half the inning played in darkness. Umps never took the extra day which was available.
