Gillchrist was best in diving and catching, Dhoni was quick in stumping. Gillchrist as an attcking batsman was nightmare for bowlers. Dhoni as a master finisher was a threat for opposing team. Both are great.
There is reason behind this, coz Aussie produce great pacers, and their pitches also helps them to do so, hence Gilchrist was good at them, and dhoni at stumping bcoz of more spinners India produced

Adam Gilchrist revolutionized the role of a wicket keeper- batsman and thereafter MSD, Joss Butler, Brad Haddin, Md. Rizwan all have and still following his footsteps. He was a no. 7 in tests and opener in limited over cricket. His opening pair with Mathew Hayden was one of the finest in ODIs. Kept wicket to the greatest spinner of all time and some of the most efficient seam bowlers. Performed with brilliance in 3 consecutive world cups, especially in the finals. All cricket experts unanimously accept him as the greatest wicket keeper- batsman of all time.
As for Dhoni no doubt he is the greatest wicket keeper - batsman India has ever produced. His finesse in stumping is second to none. As a finisher and as a captain he has achieved what many dare to dream about.
But if the overall performance , influence and opinions of the veterans are taken into account, Gilchrist is clearly ahead of any of his contemporaries.
Dhoni's stumping and Gilly's catching both are a treat to the eye ....so let's not compare them rather enjoy what they had done for their respective nations.
2000 born kids doesn't know the impact Gichrist had created . Dhoni was excellent but Gilchrist redefined the role of keeper. He was good in tests too including foreign conditions unlike dhoni whose role was very much limited in overseas tests. As a keeper dhoni was street smart, where as Gilchrist was more skilled.

Absolutely incorrect. Dhoni was way better than Gilchirst in Wicketkeeping. Dhoni was a way better analyser to the ball than thee. He was though not much successful in tests but as a captain with tons of pressure its not much eas to be consistent. Still Dhoni alone as a captain earned much more respect and love and no words for his 3 international cups as a captain and 5 IPL trophies.

Dhoni was also a better strategist, a slightly better keeper a great mentor and a phenomenal finisher. Only thing Gilchrist beats him is in batting. Gilchrist just had a better strike rate and more explosive style especially in helpful conditions.

When I was a kid Gilchrist was at his peak, my dad used to yell out “oi kids Gilchrist is batting!” And we’d come running to watch, I went over a friends house one day and he’s dad done the same thing. No one wanted to miss a ball while Gilchrist was batting he was the most entertaining batsmen this game has ever seen
Adam Gilchrist my all-time favorite. He had the tough task of opening the batting for Australia. He had the ability to turn test matches from tricky situations. Dhoni also great!!! But my vote is for Gilchrist.
Gilly for athletic catches fast stumping even to fast bowlers and legendary spin master warnie who spun long, most destructive batsman of his time even today. Dhoni led India so he had to think alot in terms of managing things, selection etc he had strongest presence of mind and was calm even in higher pressure compared to gilly who was a hit or a miss in high pressure while Dhoni was more reliable.
