You should show a video on how you got to that troubleshooting that the canister was faulty. Several videos on UA-cam showing P0440 on bmw have several troubleshooting method but not so much on how to trace the leak etc etc. Thank you.
I have no code but the gas trigger keeps tripping when filling...so I'm thinking the vent system is clogged which may eventually throw a code? So I should do this removal but maybe clear all the lines and maybe shake the canaster, maybe the charcoal solidified and needs to be shaken not stirred.
@elit.8034 no, but I heard clocking the gas nozzle when u fill it to the 9 o'clock position seems to eliminate that...haven't tried it yet as it's not my daily driver. If that don't work then charcoal canister probably.
Am not knocking anyone but anytime u watch a UA-cam video why ppl Always say it is difficult? Maybe it’s because I worked for bmw. I can tell u one thing u will brake more stuff by prying on it if potential to make it leak by damaging the plastic with a screw driver or pliers a little Jb or lithium spray nest time and give it 10 sec then squeeze tabs and pull and watch the magic the reason why it’s tight is the O ring
So, what you are saying is to spray those plastic and pipes and tabs with lithium spray and than let it stand for 10 seconds and then try to pry it out by hand, not by using screwdriver and pliers, correct?
It's exactly what it was. So my BMW mechanic told me because the charcoal canister will go bad due to over fill gas tank. When the gas triggers a full tank , most people like to continue to fill to brim, which doesn't allow correct breathing and the charcoal goes bad.
@@elit.8034 yes that’s exactly what fixed mine. Swapped the evaporator canister out and has been good ever since. This is a common problem that there is not much info on.
@jplumb5591 it's a common problem because it's very common for morons to overfill their gas tank to the brim it's a sealed system where do you think that extra fuel is going. Yes it goes to your charcoal canister ding ding ding.

Charcoal filter is around $330 OEM
I have same problem . Did you figure it out yet?

@D Gaz OK thanks. On to the BMW fueling mystery lol

So that's the secret. what you're saying makes sense. I've worked on so many BMW's and I always hated those plastic pinch clamps. Thank you.
Do you think this has anything to do with fueling the tank and I keeps triggering handle? It takes for ever to fuel the car. Any thoughts
I have the same issue 🤦🏽♂️. Did you find the fix?
