I guess what I find confusing is when Caitlyn Jenner chooses to reject the gender she was born as and embraces the gender she identifies, changes her name, has her appearance altered and starts referring to herself as she instead of he we hail her as a brave hero, fair enough no issues there. Yet when Rachel Dolezal chooses to reject the race she was born as and embraces the race she identifies with, changes her name, has her appearance altered and starts referring to herself as black instead of white we all vilify her as a nut job/horrible human being.

You're right. Because a poor person, a rich person, male or female, doctor or garbage man, thief or judge, is still black everyday. Her identity as black is kind of racist in itself. I'd love a world where everyone is equal, but there is a scientific fact that me and you might reflect different amounts of sunlight. Ignoring this is just ignorance. Should a child be afraid to say something is black or white, when it actually is?

In most transgender people stories, they say they didn't feel right in their bodies, they are more comfortable wearing dresses, using women bathroom etc.. and this woman is saying even as a child, when drawing herself, she was using a brown pencil to draw her skin color, then she took action and went black despite that no one has ever done it before. Somewhere down the line, someone told her, that being white is shameful. She called a black man her Dad. What does that say about her actual roots? What does it say about her that she would not be proud of her real heritage? She taught black history, she championed black causes. Maybe because our culture keeps telling us that white people dont have a heritage to be proud of and that is not the case. We have things we for sure have learned from. But we also have a rich heritage that should be lauded, but cant because of course, that would be racist

The reason why she is still having a hard time getting jobs, is because she lied about who she is people don't like a person who lies and we shouldn't give her a pass for that. Rachel may have studied about the African American community, but she really doesn't get the struggles that the community has had to go through, she wasn't forced to sit at the back of the bus, or forced to eat in black only restuarants why give her a platform that is like saying it is ok to lie about who you are. I don't see why she couldn't accept the race was born, people shouldn't be ashamed of who they are, and try to be someone else, God created us the way he wanted us to be he wanted Rachel to be white. Rachel can identify as white and still volunteer her time helping people in the African American community she would be welcome.

Or would you wonder what else the person lied about ? Or would you feel you never really knew that person after all. She even asked her brothers to lie for her. She told them not to blow her cover. No I can't accept that.

As a black male, I have to say that there are so many black people and dark-skinned people who want to be white
(Clarence Thomas, Ben Carson, Michael Jackson, Sammy Sosa, Condoleeza Rice). At sperm banks, they always ask for white donors. Whenever a white person is married to an Asian person, it's not an issue. Yet, whenever a white person is married to a black person, it's taboo. Black people have been ostracized ever since the beginning of time. I'm elated that someone actually WANTS to be black instead of the reverse.

  • @dictorgwebu9128

We need to talk about these issues and not malign and/or disparage one another. Why is race so important in the US and Europe. What value is attached to race? who needs the concept of race anyway? We need to talk and not just condemn this to the the periphery of life issues. This reminds me of the movie titled 'twelve angry men', how simplistic eleven of the jurors had viewed the evidence against a young man, how the tenacity and reasoning of one man changed all of them. we need to talk about these issues as the human race and not as black or white.

If she really was living in a third country like anywhere in Africa, anywhere in South America, the Caribbean, India or anywhere, she wont have time to feel black, white or purple or identify as god knows what because she would be too busy fighting to put food on the table and fighting to survive. She is a product of a spoiled society. Get real Rachel if you want to be black that badly go live in West Africa and see how hard it is you wont last two minutes.

It's truly insulting and tone deaf for a White person to suddenly decide that they are going to identify as Black. There are daily struggles that African Americans go through on a daily basis, that a person outside of that community could never comprehend. Putting tanner and a wig on doesn't make you Black. This isn't a joke Rachel. Issue a sincere apology to the Black community and work as an ally rather than as an imposter.
