Visited Moldova back in 2012/2013. Spent some time in two small villages north of Falesti-one Russian speaking, one Romanian speaking. It was pretty interesting how notably different the culture of each village was despite being less than an hour apart. The Romanians were quieter, cooperative, but also more resigned. The Russians were more assertive, argumentative, and confrontational. These are generalities ofcourse, but it was noticeable. We learned a lot of Moldovans were bilingual but would outright refuse to speak Russian, because they viewed them as occupiers and oppressors. From what little time I spent there, it seemed apparent the country was still recovering from decades of infrastructure being tailored around moving resources out of the country (and into USSR) rather than enjoyed within the country. When the war in Ukraine began, I immediately thought if my acquaintances in Moldova, and worried for them.

Putin never had to start this war. He could have used all the oil & gas revenues to modernise the nuclear weapons & give his citizens a better life. No country in Europe was about to attack a Russia armed with a vast array of nukes. A few years ago in Portugal I met a lovely young woman from Moldova, she wanted so badly to be at home in her country but needed to work during the tourist season. And I know a Serbian family who are working here in Canada too. The world was becoming such an interconnected place, and although it was sad that so many had to leave home for work, it was fun to see all the young people abroad. Peace is such an easy thing- you just have to not declare war on anyone. But in reality these narcissist idiots can't live with peace and happiness.

I see this as a big problem for both, Moldova and Transnistria. Transnistria is getting most of its revenue from trading with EU and the world thx to Moldova economic treaties. I don't think they are under any sanctions since the world does not recognize them. So basically they are milking two cows at the same time. Russia for cheap energy, market and work places, EU for, exports, technology, work market since they all got the Moldovan passports to work and travel in EU. Joining Russia will cut all the European benefits while remaining with a isolated Russia under sanctions. I don't think they are thrilled about this perspective.

Moldova have 0 tanks, 0 flying military planes, 0 attack helicopters, 0 rockets. All it's army from Soviet Union stayed in Transnistria and is owned by Russia.
Western Europe needs to enter. At some point if Russia doesn’t withdraw the war will have to cross into their territory by missile or tank. If the nukes fly they fly both directions and we are put out of our misery but whatever the course Putin must fall.
This was obvious all along... and not only Transnistria, but entire Moldova's existence solely depends on whenever Ukraine wins or loses. If Ukraine loses the war Moldova automatically gets taken with Ukraine, there is no question about it, russia is under sanctions anyway so they would not lose anything and from military perspective taking Moldova would be easier than taking small Ukrainian town, like Kherson. And there will be no miracles in Moldova as it was in Ukraine, very different countries, Moldova does not have any weapons or capabilities to defend itself. In Ukraine it was the question of will i.e. whenever Ukrainians would be willing to use all they weapons and fight, or would they surrender and their government would flee - surprise was not their military strength, surprise was that they decided to fight. In Moldova that is not the case - there is simply no strength to speak of, so nor real possibility of defending even if they wanted to.

The weakest point of Russia is economic status so in the long run it may be the same as the collapsed Soviet Union after Afghanistan war and more over at present it is the war against an international law and global economy . The Russians realized they attacked on too many fronts simultaneously, and they didn't expect as much resistance, so they're regrouping and focusing on one area at a time. First they take Donbas and Mariopol, form a land bridge down to Crimea. They've almost done this, except for a few pockets of resistance. The next target will be Odessa. They've already started the shelling there. If they get Odessa and hold it, Ukraine will be land locked and economically crippled. Then the Russians start further conquering, moving north. Hopefully they can be stopped. The battle for Odessa is going to be pivotal.

The Russian-speakers in Transnistria amount to less than a third of the population, not much more than the Ukrainian and Romanian-speaking populations. Another interesting fact is that the Romanians switched to the Latin alphabet in the 19th century, but Stalin made the "Moldovans" switch back to Cyrillic after he forced Romania to give up their land under the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.

So, I am not sure Russia is not winning this war. Another fact, Ukraine has a population of 44 million people and more than 20 millions already left the country to Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, France and so on... Putin may die, but it doesn't look like they will lose it.

A few years ago in Portugal I met a lovely young woman from Moldova, she wanted so badly to be at home in her country but needed to work during the tourist season. And I know a Serbian family who are working here in Canada too. The world was becoming such an interconnected place, and although it was sad that so many had to leave home for work, it was fun to see all the young people abroad. Peace is such an easy thing- you just have to not declare war on anyone. But in reality these narcissist idiots can't live with peace and happiness.

I see this as a big problem for both, Moldova and Transnistria. Transnistria is getting most of its revenue from trading with EU and the world thx to Moldova economic treaties. I don't think they are under any sanctions since the world does not recognize them. So basically they are milking two cows at the same time. Russia for cheap energy, market and work places, EU for, exports, technology, work market since they all got the Moldovan passports to work and travel in EU. Joining Russia will cut all the European benefits while remaining with a isolated Russia under sanctions. I don't think they are thrilled about this perspective.

Western Europe needs to enter. At some point if Russia doesn’t withdraw the war will have to cross into their territory by missile or tank. If the nukes fly they fly both directions and we are put out of our misery but whatever the course Putin must fall.
This was obvious all along... and not only Transnistria, but entire Moldova's existence solely depends on whenever Ukraine wins or loses. If Ukraine loses the war Moldova automatically gets taken with Ukraine, there is no question about it, russia is under sanctions anyway so they would not lose anything and from military perspective taking Moldova would be easier than taking small Ukrainian town, like Kherson. And there will be no miracles in Moldova as it was in Ukraine, very different countries, Moldova does not have any weapons or capabilities to defend itself. In Ukraine it was the question of will i.e. whenever Ukrainians would be willing to use all they weapons and fight, or would they surrender and their government would flee - surprise was not their military strength, surprise was that they decided to fight. In Moldova that is not the case - there is simply no strength to speak of, so nor real possibility of defending even if they wanted to.
Putin wants eastern Poland as a buffer zone (it has significant Russian population) to get that he needs ALL of Ukraine.

Hm, I saw this kind of denial before the Invasion from the Ukrainians. Now Moldova is doing the wishful thinking. The only quick fix it's the reunion with Romania. The Russians realized they attacked on too many fronts simultaneously, and they didn't expect as much resistance, so they're regrouping and focusing on one area at a time. First they take Donbas and Mariopol, form a land bridge down to Crimea. They've almost done this, except for a few pockets of resistance. The next target will be Odessa. They've already started the shelling there. If they get Odessa and hold it, Ukraine will be land locked and economically crippled. Then the Russians start further conquering, moving north. Hopefully they can be stopped. The battle for Odessa is going to be pivotal.

Truth is the russians inflicted across the European borders, don t even want to be part of Russia because they enjoy the freedom there. If they want they can join Russia..it is a huge country with not so much population.
