You did a good job. I would have spent the money for a cap style metal filter wrench to remove the filter. Like other commenters the filter should go 7/8 of a turn after the gasket makes contact. Hand tight is a very subjective term. That would depend on how strong your hands and arms are as well as can you reach up in the hole to grab the filter. Instructions are on the filter. One other thing I recently found out after changing oil 40 years is once the filter starts to give a stream of oil leave it on until the stream stops. Much less mess this way. I also simply scotch tape the aluminum gasket onto the filters when I get them. Always used in pairs. The gasket is to stop galvanic corrosion between the pan and the plug. Great oil choice also.
Great video, thank you! Just a tid-bit for viewers' perspective, wide angle shots help in knowing where chalks go, etc. Thanks again, you did a great job!
Great and very helpful video, i have a idea, you make a hole on bottom of oil filter and let it drain ,avoid the the oil mess wait for oil drop done and take oil filter out.Done and clean ! Have a really nice day...
Idk why this showed up on my feed but other than this is my car and google is spying on me. I also don’t know why I watched this because I know how to change my own oil. I have to say man this is a really great informative video for anyone changing their oil for the first time. Couple of things I noticed is I always get my drain plug tight but not too tight. (I have stripped a drain plug before) for my Filter I only ever get it hand tight and one little crank with my Filter tool. With my Filter I always lube the seal and also some of the Filter with some of my old oil. Just what my friend who’s a mechanic always did so I followed suit. Just want to say this is a great video man!
I have found that 4 quarts is the right amount only if the car is level when you drain. When I put my Civic on ramps,, more oil is drained and I need about 4 1/2 quarts to refill. The book says 4.2 quarts with new filter.
Preferable to get a torque wrench for precision. That way you dont overtighten the oil drain bolt. 29 ft-lbs of torque for the bolt. This is stated in the owners manual.

Thanks for telling people this. I'll never understand some mechanics need to torque the oil pan plug or overtighten the oil filter. You will need a breaker bar for leverage for the oil plug and maybe even some propane torch heat as well.
Also, for those who missed it, you WILL need a new washer(he called it a gasket) for the drain plug. DO NOT reuse the old one, it will cause problems and your oil pan will leak.
I have never once in my life had a problem with using the old washer. I've been changing oil in 5 different vehicles for 20 years. Not a single drip of oil.
Place the lifting plate of the floor jack directly under the center of the front axle, place your jack stands on either end of the axle near the wheel mounts, raise the jack stands to equal height and *_SLOWLY_* lower the floor jack until the axle makes contact with both stands, from there you can remove the floor jack and get to work.

So I kinda squished my oil filter with the wrench when putting the new one on. It has a dent. I’m driving on it and I’m not sure if I should replace the filter or not
If it's not cracked and there's no oil under the car when sitting, it's probably fine, but I would still replace it. The best thing to do is to get an actual filter wrench (I've since done that for my cars)
