Hi! You can check out the first impressions video of our SILENT 60 here: ua-cam.com/video/UPs5omXl6EM/v-deo.html. Stay tuned for content about the kite to launch soon.
I have been planning on buying a silent 55 or 60 upon retirement, I have been following the company from the first and knew it was going to be a big hit in the yachting world.
Terry Jones you’ll need at least $2 Million for the base price of the Silent 55. That also doesn’t include insurance, taxes, delivery and so much more.
1.5 For the 55 from what I read on their web page yea I know been researching them for a few years now think of lack of maintenance on the motors only 3 moving parts front and rear bearing and the field their battery's have a 10 year warranty I think 25 on the solar panels only fuel you buy is for the generators truly a global cat at almost no cost.
Same with me. I've been following them from the outset and the comments from these people in the video only reinforce my own views. Silent Yachts is the way to go.
I am glad for you! But if you buy it, can you announce that somewhere in the comments and film everything with your personal opinion. I just want to see how our expectations might be different from reality
@@alinursayat3854 i was planning on doing some videos for youtube. But im not quite at that level now although as focused i am i do see being there if things keep going the way they are now.
It's a fantastic boat and I would like to see a complete test in real conditions at the sea for capability , range , charging capacity and availablity , etc ... at marinas for docking , manoeuvring , visibility , etc ... let's say as a real boat , an all electric ocean going trawler ! Thanks
Great job harnessing the sun! But wait........haven't we been using wind to propel yachts for hundreds of years? Isn't wind cheaper, cleaner and safer?
The only decent comment was from Edward Sachs (the US distributor). The others were obviously not boat people and were focusing on the most ridiculous things. Nobody mentioned the most important aspect of a solar boat, since boats are a method of transportation. You can travel whichever direction you want, for as fast as you want, without the need for wind, tacking back and forth in an unnecessary direction, or stopping for fuel. (Only fuel was mentioned.) This saves an incredible about of time traveling, which again is the main point of owning a method of transportation. This is also a safety issue since you can more quickly avoid a dangerous storm. And it’s less maintenance. Yes you are paying for the “fuel” costs up front in the form of expensive batteries and panels, but over time it makes up for it in a way that solar powered cars can’t. This truly is a valid reason for solar. And even better, it’s not subsidized with taxpayer’s money.
No way I am sailing as far as I want, as fast as I want with the current solar technology. When these boats can compete with an FPB for speed and range they will be there. Unfortunately for a powered passage maker they have a long way to go. I like the idea of electric/solar boats and wish Silent the best. But looking at the stats so far the best solar powered boats use sails, not solar panels.
@@farzana6676 I've personally been aboard the Silent 55 in 2019. We cruised at 12-16 knots for 4 hours and another 2 hours at about 6 knots. And that was without the generator kicking on at any point. Also keep in mind that this was at night after the sun went down, all on batteries. With the solar power when the sun is out, the boat could reach 20 knots I was told.
Hi Adam! Thanks for your comment. The energy is stored in lithium batteries and can therefore be used for when the sun is not shining. In case you face longer periods of unfavourable weather conditions, the back-up generator on board can recharge the batteries whenever needed.
no one has mentioned about travelling at night on a trans ocean trip do you park up at nigh in the middle of the ocean and wait for the sun the next morning or run all night on the generator
If you spot them early on several km away, you can outrun them. For instance, the generator would be going along with stored battery power for up to an hour or two, where their fuel would be exhausted, but the solar power could be replenished during the course of the next day.
The owner explains that it would not in another video, by the Yachts for sale channel. Their shadowing the solar panels would reduce more than the wind could add.
@@silentyachts what types of bottom paints is good if boat at Singapore a tropical n hot n warm near equator area , as a tiny island the highest lighting strike there .
Its definitely a future, but its missing hydrogen generator with fuel cell and its too expensive. Leopard 50 will cost 800k$ with monthly expenses for everything about 3500$, so put it to 30 years and conventional Leopard 50 will cost you about 1.3M$ with everything covered. Silent-Yachts of that size will cost you only the same amount of money, only for its starting price tag...
Surprisingly you don’t. The average cruising speed when you actually have wind is about 6 knots. The rest of the time you are motor sailing with the engines on.
For Mediterranean & Caribbean cruising, the sun is more reliable than wind. sometimes there are days of calm at a time. Also no need for tacking., just take the direct route. Plus the batteries are storing power at anchor. Obviously less suitable for northern Scandinavian cruising in winter, but that's not really the market for this anyway. Unlike sails, solar powers all the electrics on the boat.
How much are these yachts? $1.5 million to $2.5 million? don't get me wrong I love the idea and if I have the cash I would want a solar-powered off gride lifestyle yacht, but I can not get past the cheap Ikea $6000 kitchen and interior, for that money you can buy a castle or manor house which comes with a lordship here in the UK. for that kind of cash I would expect statesmen style rooms that you would expect to see in the white house, the worlds best carpenter rosewood serpentine finished surfaces, deep pile wild Scottish sheepskin rugs, art deco finished brass fixings, wraparound helm with touch screen monitors that look like your figin flying SpaceX. I want a soft-voiced onboard computer gently alerting me of possible oncoming dangers, music and mood lighting voice commands. Tesla standard tech with 360 camera detection of intruders and collisions. instead, we get a cheap boat with a few solar panels and cheap tesla copy engines. I seriously can not get past the IKEA finish. for 500k I would challenge anyone to convert a more classy yacht with the same solar panels and engines (probably better to use Telsa batteries and engines). you would truly end up with the dreamboat at a fraction of the price.
Steffan boats this size are 1-3 million depending. Given that the Silent Yatchs are front runners in this technology it think it is ungenerous to expect them to match diesel boats in luxury at similar price points.
@@RenlangRen I would say your Seriously lagging behind in electric proportion, massively over priced and poorly rendered. They look and feel like white Portaloo. I am deafly in the market for a new yacht however I feel today’s standards are really low in comparison to only 20 years ago. To own a yacht was to own a refined example of the days perfect craftsmanship and design.
Just to add I’m sorry I don’t mean to be so negative it’s just so very disappointing. do the maths you don’t need to invest in technology the technology is already there electric motors are cheaper than diesel. Cheaper to install cheaper to run and they last longer.
@@SteffanAtherton Lol, no apologies needed Steffan. You seem very civil to me. I do think you are underestimating the cost of being one of the first to do something. Take a look at Tesla vs Mercedes or Cadillac. Tesla charge a premium for a car that really is sub par in the terms of fit finish and quality, because they are one the front runner in the electric car industry.
Yes it is posible at that price point of 500k for a 50 footer cat bay water cruising only. it has been done already. DIY. resale value is key. In a 5 year old cat, u would have to get rid of the mast , boom ... riggings. Or go to Taiwan or Thailand to build a brand new 50 foot, 2 hulled catamaran barebone kit for 150k, ikea type. Tesla batteries are not marine grade(u can not walk out of a DIY cat in the middle of the atlantic if one of the DIY non-marine grade tesla or nissan batteries and components catches on fire). At this momment in time, yes u can build a Silent Cat DIY for bay cruising but not for blue water worthiness-too manny bad-waters out there to risk it with non-marine grade components. Any ideas?

I am going to get one in the next 2-3 years. 55 for sure, maybe 60... 80 would be my dream yacht.

It would be nice to see the operating/maintenance cost breakdown for the Silent 55.
I suspect it's a lot less than a conventional "motor" catamaran.
In a electric car you kind of only have to check the air filter and breaks, worst is maby keeping the underside clean.
When XRP hits $ 22 I will buy an 80 beautiful yacht!!!
Eagerly waiting for the Silent 80. Great video

That's why they have a large battery.
wait for a little advancements in 5 years then it becomes a good consideration
Gary if you are making long passages you are running a diesel generator.
Would the yacht be able to apply emergency power and escape pirates?
