    Whilst silent yachts will not save the world from the impact of humans, you are providing luxury yachts without adding to it. Every things helps - your inspiration is our reward.
    I loved the video and the story of your humble beginnings.

    I get the feeling that the founders actually care for our planet. It's very refreshing. People will always want "luxuries", and the way to save our planet is not to tell people "you should not have them", but to make new products that satisfy this demand with little or no impact to the environment. I'm pretty sure that Silent will continue to innovate - they have to, as more companies will start to follow in their track, given their success - to stay ahead of the upcoming competition, making their boats more and more sustainable. Great work, looking forward to meeting you in person soon!

    to say I'm OBSESSED with these yachts is a total understatement! Making the plan and going to make it happen... going from houselife to vanlife to boatlife! YES!! And as a vegan, I LOVE how these boats have no emissions, are silent and therefore have minimal disruption to marine life, and I'm also planning on where I'll build my on-board garden to grow food too. We certainly won't be fishing and taking any creatures from their home!! ;)

    Love the yacht! One idea for the company, when docking for a longer period of time (assuming the owner doesnt live aboard full time), all those solar power goes to waste. Is it possible to design a mechanism to feed back the solar power to the marina to power part of their daily usage? And benefit for the boat owner maybe negotiate a discounted docking rate with the marinas. Or Silent Yacht and do that negotiation and start a new industry trend, which also promotes the product itself.

      One day I could totally see marinas adopting two way charging. Maybe with meters allowing payment to cover the owners slip fees. Many marinas already have electric car charging stations in the parking lots, so the infrastructure is nearby.

When I can afford it, Silent Yachts is gonna be the go to, its gonna make jaws drop when you pull into a harbor and people ask how much it costs to run one these yachts, clearly seeing you have no sail, to which you reply, "I bought 80 liters of diesel a few ports ago, still have yet to use a drop".

    Post from Canada:
    I think you guys should really consider adding Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (so that it does not cast shadows on the solar panels) and Pervoskite thin film Kite Sails on your yachts to augment the charging and power of the boat.

    • @silentyachts
      @silentyachts  3 роки тому +4

      Hi Kon! Thanks for your message. With past prototypes, we did research with Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines. Bottom line is that they do cast shade in the panels. The energy they produce does unfortunately not make up for the energy loss overall. Furthermore, they are quite noisy and depending on the placement, can be a safety hazard as well. Kite sails are available for all our models, in case you want to take advantage of the wind,

    Thank you Michael and Heike for sharing your vision of a potential future for yachting. I fell in love with the SY-55 the first time I heard about it. Large enough for some serious passage-making yet small enough for two people to easily handle. If I had the means, it would be an extremely difficult decision between a SY-55 and a Greenline 48 since the Greenline would be much better suited to river and coastal cruising. And that is what my wife would prefer. In either case, I would be more interested in a hybrid over a pure electric and for the 55 I would definitely want the kite-sail option.

      Hi there! Thanks for your comment. All our yachts are equipped with diesel back up generators. While they are not connected to the actual propulsion system, they can recharge the batteries whenever needed. This makes sure you can also cross oceans when facing unfavorable weather conditions for longer periods of time. The kite sail of course offers an additional layer of flexibility.

    At minute 1:30: that solar is all being used to turn the props with the boat moving that fast. The implication is it's charging batteries, false, else they'd have great range and could "cross oceans"

    I really want to believe! Can you help me with my math? It seems like you have 30sqm of space for solar, which would be maybe 5kw. So in super sunny places generate 50kwh per day. Your smallest yacht has 150kwh battery storage, so it would take 3 days to charge. More like 5 realistically. Even the smallest motors are 2x50kw, so at full speed you could get 1.5hrs of sailing for 5 days of charging. Or, running straight from solar, you could only run at 5% of full speed. I hope my maths are wrong somewhere so please help me see it!

      @@silentyachts it’s a lovely video. But it’s clear that most of the energy in the example comes from the diesel generator. Unfortunately I guess this is how the yacht will work in the real world, unless someone limits their cruising to just a few hours a day.

    • @silentyachts
      @silentyachts  3 роки тому

      @@yoavzingher7670 It all depends on the use-case. Most people go island hopping in sunny areas during their vacation. Hereby, it is no problem to rely on solar powere alone.

    Im just back from a few days on a 120ft motor yacht which used a stupid amount of fuel and constantly had a diesel generator running which felt silly. I cant wait to try one of these. Suggestion: maybe also manufacture nice looking solar panel sun covers to retrofit on existing motor yachts to compliment the generator.

    • @silentyachts
      @silentyachts  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Magnus! Thanks for sharing your story! Our philosophy simply was to start from a clean slate and create a new type of yacht which was designed to be solar powered from the ground up.

    An idea... Micheal and Hyka To optimise the use of a wing sail ..
    Theres one problematic circumstance using a kite sail...and a solution i can see in using a helium or hydrogen filled kite aerofoil being useful. That's if you are using it as a sail replacement on a boat ⛵if it displaces enough to remain bouyant in still air ... It will stay up in intermittent winds till the wind speed picks up and aerodynamic lift can take over and start moving the vessel ...
    Otherwise you have to use a longer stub mast to stop it dropping into the sea and or if still moving you risk getting it snagged or pulled under the hull. With a wind only kite you have to take it down to mast hight or stow it each time the wind drops or in light airs.
    It particularly suits Cats. and Trimarans ...and as an alternative or assist to E powered vessels like the Silent yatchs on passage making and at night. Where you dont want the problems of constant kite handling on long passages and the risks at night especially as thats the optimal time to have a sail deployed 😉
    NB:
    The gas containing components of the wing sail would have to have mylar linings or bladders.. as the structural material of the kites wouldnt retain either of the lifting gasses..and helium is a strategic resource that has to be mined..
    Because of the small amount and remote deployment hydrogen filled ballonets would be cheaper and pretty safe .. as well as being renewable it has a greater lift capacity per cubic meter.👍🏻⛵
    I have a long interest in LTA/ hybrid technology and Amphibious aircraft.
