@@Way2SeaMarioJelavic yeah I'd actually like to see a smaller 30-40 ft range electric catamaran come out. Not just cheaper to buy, but more efficient and- this is just a personal pet peeve with the Silent series- a layout that looks more hippie-utilitarian than the "upclass apartment" look we have here

Lithium Phosphate battery energy density is getting denser... they should catch up with Lithium Ion without the danger of catching fire, double the life time, and other benefits. Or other technologies will show up.... either way, as battery energy densities improve, all electric propelled boats will become accessible with less room needed for large engine rooms and lower maintenance costs.... cannot get here quickly enough, but may take another 10 years... cannot wait!

Two vertical axis wind turbines places at either side of the boat (front or back) I think would be a great addition and extend the range and indefinite top speed tremendously, obviously you'd need to figure out how to incorporate it into the design in a sleek way, perhaps have them very short instead of on tall poles. I wonder if that can be recommended by the customer and worked out in the build process

Very nice walk-through of the 55. Outside of the price tag, the only thing I don't like that much is the steering mechanism. Although if you have to make a HARD turn at least you wouldn't have to spin the wheel through 10 rotations to go lock to lock. Note: that may be an option requested by that owner, on the website they show the 55 with a helm wheel at both stations. Functionally, the options I'd want to add would be the battery bank from the E-Power+ (300KWh), the motors from the Cruiser (50Kw) and the kite-sail. As well as every option available from Raymarine.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, it's a little unusual to see a ship without a steering wheel. From my experience in catamaran riding, I used the steering wheel a bit. Since the propellers are at the ends of each hull, it is very easy to maneuver the catamaran only with propulsion engines. The Silent 55 is equipped with two bow thrusters, which makes such a maneuver even easier. I use autopilot in the voyage itself. If a correction of the direction of navigation with autopilot is required, it is simply performed. Since the sailing speed is not high, it is easier to control the autopilot. It is a bit unusual for me that the ship does not have a steering wheel, but I think it is more of a psychological moment than a practical one. As for the batteries, I’m not expert enough here for a good answer. Kind regards, Mario
