I lived this, too. My son's father is 6'5",and I'm 5"1'. My son was toddler size when he was born, and people would ask why am I carrying him or pushing him in a stroller. I always loved the look of shock on their faces when I told them his age. He's 24 now, and I truly miss those days.
We had the opposite. When our daughter would walk with us we had people tell us that she was too young, that we were forcing her to walk too soon. Then we would tell them that she was 2 years old.
@SPR_NAPALM Same here. My Nephew (who I heavily helped raise) was walking at 9 months. People would swear I was lying, that his legs were too short for him to walk, that he was altogether too small... Then, when they saw him take off, 🤣 they'd ask how it was possible. Even when he was well over a year old, I got the same reaction. He was the 2nd smallest in his grade throughout elementary school. He stayed pretty short until high school! He then shot up to 6'1"!! He's now muscular too. Who knew?! He's 23 and is marrying his wonderful fiance (She's also his high-school sweetheart) in just under a month! He's a lineman, and she's in her last couple years out of 7, of her pharmacy school/internship. I am SO proud of them both! My Niece was fairly small too, but she is about 5'6" now, which is, sadly, taller than I am! She's 20, and in college and working! She's taller than her Grandma's, her Mom, and me, actually! We are a short group, lol. Those kiddos all make me VERY proud! It's crazy how large the height differences can be from your childhood averages to your set height. It's even crazier how fast they grow up in years, though!!
My husband and I are tall (both over 6'), and our daughter is in the 99th percentile for height. I've always felt the need to mention her age in social situations (especially mixed-age classes) so that people can adjust their expectations of her behavior.
Me too! I’m 5’4 and hubby is 6’2, our daughter has always been in the 99th percentile for height, she’s projected to be 6ft fully grown. She’s 4 now and the size of a 3rd grader. When she was 2 she still used her binky for naps and I would get so many looks. I could tell people were thinking “why does that 5 year old still have a binky?!?” 😂 I always feel the need to tell people her age because she looks so much older.
Same...my 8 yr olds look like 10 yr olds...always felt a little defensive at the park when they were younger, getting the side eye from other parents 😜
My 3 yr old granddaughter is in the same situation. She wears size 5 pants and size 11 shoes. She also has long, thick hair and absolutely looks five or six. She is physically very advanced, so she always declines playing in the toddler/preschooler side of the park in favor of the big kid side, where she keeps up with the seven and eight year olds. It’s amazing to watch her. Her speech has been quite delayed due to multiple serious ear infections and ruptured eardrums, so when she runs after another kid in a game of tag hollering in her special gibberish, it really confuses the other kids and moms. 😂😂 😂
Same for expectations!. My son is grown now, but even family expected him to act his size not his age. And my son stopped trick or treating so young because the looks he would get because people didn't understand. 😢
