This one again is fairly easy to rank for me, because i know almost every album by heart. And my ranking hasn't changed in years. So here we go:
    1. Spreading the Disease - Simply a perfect album. From start to finish, no weak note in my book. The riffing is from another planet on this one. Dan Spitz kills it in every song. Also Joey sounds perfect on this one too, not as squeaky as on other albums.
    2. State of Euphoria - Maybe a contrarian choice, but i just love this album to death. Sure, the songs sound very similar, but similar good at least. Songs like "Make me laugh" or "Misery loves company" are one of my favorite tunes from Anthrax. Also the lyrics are by far the best they've ever written. And being a drummer myself i think this is the best work Charlie has ever done.
    3. Persistence of Time - The "dark album" and the album that killed the classic line-up. I think they put everything they had into this record and burned out in the process. The almost two year long tour for the album was too much too handle for Joey and he finally got fired. But i had a chance to see them opening for Maiden on that tour and it was a memorable experience.
    4. Among the Living - Sure, it is their masterpiece - at least if you believe most critics. And i can see why, i've just listened to it far too many times to still be able to enjoy it these days as much as i did back in the day when it was released. Also i never really liked the production, it takes away a bit of the power of the songs. 25 years ago, this would've been my #1 for sure, but the other ones just aged better for me.
    5. For all Kings - Anthrax being old school Anthrax once again. The fact that they could even top the formidable Worship Music is really saying something. Even Joey is somehow singing in a more tolerable register. At least to my aged ears. But when i heard "This Battle chose us" i couldn't believe that Anthrax were still firing on all cylinders and put out their best effort in over 25 years.
    6. We've Come for You All - The last one with John Bush and for me easily the best one with him behind the mic. Up to this point this was the longest break they took between two albums and it showed. They really returned to form on this record. It is more groove oriented than their earlier stuff. Songs like "What doesn't Die" or "Superhero" are excellent representations of that style. Not an album i go back to that often, but when i do i really enjoy it.
    7. Worship Music - Thank god the band got rid of Dan Nelson before releasing the album and got Joey back on board. Nothing against Dan, but his voice just doesn't fit Anthrax at all. Just listen to some live recordings of his tenure with the band. He sounds more like Phil Anselmo than Joey or even John. Would've been a shame to release this really strong material without the familiar voice of Mr. Belladonna.
    8. Sound of White Noise - The first one after the break up with Joey and in comes John Bush. I always loved John's voice in Armored Saint and his time with Anthrax also has some great music to offer. Ofc it sounded different, but maybe the band needed a new direction and some new blood. And they didn't deviate too much from their successful formula on this one, just enough to enter the Grunge dominated 90s. It was different but still good, not like the train wrecks that followed after that.
    9. Fistful of Metal - Very raw and primordial. Neil Turbin tried his best, but it wasn't enough. Also the songs are not there yet, the magic is still missing on this one.
    10. + 11. The two least ranked albums were always going to be Volume 8 and Stomp 442. After Dan Spitz left, the heart and soul of the band kinda left with him for while. These albums were really children of their time. And man those weren't good times.

My favorite band out of the "Big 4!"
My major difference from your listing is I place Stomp 442 pretty high. I think it is a very experimental album by them, very creative songwriting.
I loved John Bush's vocals ever since I heard the debut Armored Saint album, and I was thrilled when he joined Anthrax, even though I liked Joey's vocals too.

    1. Among The Living
    2. Spreading the Disease
(These are the two clear winners for me, I discovered them very early on my 'metal journey', and they are still both in my top 15 metal albums of all time).
    3. State of Euphoria
(This one is quite a step down, but it still has some great songs, and a big nostalgia factor)
    4. Persistence of Time
(This feels like a more 'important', serious, statement album, and I do really like it, but it always felt just a little bit uniform and...grey, or something. Also the original vinyl sounded terrible which definitely affected my enjoyment at the time).
    5. Worship Music
    6. Sound of White Noise
    7. Fistful of Metal
    8. For All Kings
    9. We've Come For You All

I first got into Anthrax through those Master Of Metal or Masters Of Thrash type compilations. One I had bought had Caught In A Mosh on it and another had Among The Living. Loved both of those. This would have been the early nineties. I got Live:The Island Years from that BMG music club thing and loved it. Then I bought Sound Of White Noise from the bargain bin at Wal-Mart and I really loved it! I became an even bigger fan during the Bush years than I was of their Joey stuff. I really liked the Joey years but loved the Bush era Anthrax!
I loved the collaboration that Joey and John did on Ball Of Confusion and I hoped that they would incorporate both singers together from there on out but it never happened. 😔
The two albums they released the second time with Joey really didn't do anything for me at all! And I did really like the earlier Joey stuff and was willing to give it a chance even though I became a huge John Bush fan. The Devil You know is really the only song off either album I even like. The songwriting is just not relatable to me anymore. Especially on For All Kings.
The pre Joey stuff sounded good musically but I never liked those high screeching vocals! That's one reason I'm not a fan of Metallica's debut album. Once James started singing instead of screaming starting with Ride The Lightning, they became the Metallica we know and love, lol!

State of Euphoria from what I remember was huge album for the band. I saw them on this tour w Exodus and Helloween. When Anthax came on and played songs from that album the crowd was into it. That said I do remember watching the documentary and Anthrax themselves said they weren't happy w how the album came out.

I didn't get into Thrash 'till '86-'87 & Anthrax definitely had highs & lows....like Pete mentioned;enjoy the more serious, dark, heavy side of the band. To me; the only releases that matter: *Amoung The Living
    *Spreading The Disease
    *Sound Of White Noise
*For All Kings. I appreciate the band more now, than I did in the day;when I listened to much more Metallica or straight-up Metal....Ex. Armored Saint,Anthem, etc.

Anthrax has actually made the most cover songs I liked of any band, with Nazareth,Joan Jett and Metallica the only other acts with nearly as many....She, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,TNT,Cowboy Song,Parasite, etc .. awesome...

Anthrax was a favorite band growing up. I was born in 1976, so Euphoria came out right as I was becoming aware of thrash. As a result, it hits different for me and ranks higher. Once I got into death metal and grind, it was hard for me to care about new stuff from them. I have no interest in the John Bush era AT ALL even today. Just sounds lost and local band-ish to me. I do like some of the stuff on We’ve Come for you All though. Any album I didn’t rank is not for me, doesn’t sound or feel like Anthrax to me and therefore unrankable.

Love the longer ranking the albums shows. Love when you have different people talking about the different albums. Gives different opinions and perspectives and different information regarding the albums. Hope you keep doing album rankings with different people and does not bother me that the videos are 60 minutes ect. Have a problem with it then dont watch or fast forward the video.

Please consider doing albums ranked by muscian (rather than band) some day to double dip on some of these artists.
John Bush (Anthrax & Armored Saint)
    Ozzy (Sabbath & solo)
Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down Superjoint etc)
Ronnie James Dio (Rainbow, Dio, Sabbath)
Maybe keep it to a top 10 if its too many albums. Take Rob Halford for example, i love 70s Priest but that first HALFORD album (Resurrection) may be my favorite album Rob ever sang on. Itd be cool to see where albums like that land in the rankings when people think of Rob Halford & other singers.
Just throwing it out there. Great episode

State of Euphoria was rushed by the band in the studio . Their record company wanted it out by the time the went on tour opening for Iron Maiden. The band said a lot of the songs were unfinished.

Was never really a Belladonna guy or a big Anthrax guy. But I do like Spreading The Disease and Fistful Of Metal.
I always thought Among The Living was a very overrated album.
I still listen to The Sound Of White Noise and think it's their best album. The rest you can keep.
    1. The Sound Of White Noise
    2 Spreading the Disease
    3. Fistful Of Metal.
Good band, but not a great band.
How they got into the big 4, I'll never know.
Thought Testament was a far better band.
    But that's music, right?

I'm one of those crazy people who absolutely adores Fistful of Metal, it's my favourite album by them. I think it's a great speed/thrash metal debut from a bunch of young kids. I love Neil Turbin's voice, it fits the mix perfectly. I wish they had recorded more stuff with that line-up with Turbin and Lilker. And I like Euphoria as well, it's a harsh produced record, some songs are not written properly, but there are some tracks on it that I really like a lot: "Be All End All" is probably one of my all-time favourite Anthrax songs. Antisocial, Make Me Laugh, Who Cares Wins, Finale are also decent songs. And unlike the majority of fans I can't stand Persistance of Time, I find this album very dull, depressing and excessively long. When I try to listen to it all the way through I usually get tired by the middle of the record and can't wait till it's over. Finally, I don't like John Bush era at all, I don't like John Bush as a singer, I just don't care for those 4 albums, even the Sound of White Noise. This is not Anthrax for me.
    1) Fistful of Metal
    2) Among The Living
    3) Spreading the Disease
    4) State of Euphoria
    5) Persistance of Time
    6) Worship Music

Actually, Megadeth has also often peppered their music with a bit of humor and silliness (albeit of the more sarcastic and cynical kind). Such as on songs like “Sweating Bullets” and the vocal part of “Hangar 18.” So I don’t see why Anthrax tends to be singled out in that regard.

Worship Music was recorded with a different singer, Dan Nelson. He wrote a lot of those songs but he got the boot. He doesn't seem to be a lovely character either way, not too long ago he pleaded guilty to beating up some old guys because they told him that he couldn't sing.

hey Pete, just wanted to mention that on Worship Music, the track Revolution Screams isn't the whole 16 minutes. that 2nd part of the track at the end is a whole other song. it's a cover song called "New Noise" from the band Refused. and yeah, it's not very good. but it's not a part of the song Revolution Screams at all. Just one of those stupid "hidden songs" bands used to put on cd's with a bunch of space in the middle.....always hated it when bands would do that.
